Recently i've been playing with my minecraft switch more often since most of the time i am in the hospital. Hearing the latest news regarding the upcoming 1.17 update i stopped playing since there will be this new cave generation update which will probably break my current save file or if not wont render anymore since i explored about 10k blocks in each direction.
Now my question is...
If
1. I start a new game now (minecraft switch: doesnt support beta)
2. Reduce the simulation distance and render distance to lowest possible setting.
3. Only stay within 50blocks from my world spawn in all direction.
Will i be able to continue and use this save (latest 1.16) on 1.17 and render the new cave update once it roll out since i didnt allow rendering of new area. Or... everything is already preconfigured?
Sorry i know it's easier to just start a new game but i am just curious. Right now after i got lucky and had few lava turned into obsidian and made a portal without leaving my 50blocks radius from world spawn. I left for netherworld and currently living there along with my farming and chickens
Once you've opened it in 1.17 then taking it back to 1.16 would probably break it, but when you start it in 1.17 for the first time it should ask you to let it make a backup (at least the Java version does.)
Any area outside loading distance of where you've been would generate in 1.17, anywhere close to where you've been will keep the old world generation.
50 blocks sounds pretty restrictive, maybe it would be better to only explore in one direction.
What I would worry most about would be what happens at the edge between the old part of the world and the new, since mountains are being changed you'll probably get cliffs at the edge and, unless they figure out some way to plug it up it seems like there would be a risk of falling out of the world when mining below level 0 in the new part and reaching the border.
Yeah i figured that out in java ed. As i have said i am currently playin in mc.switch version and i am not familiar with the mechanics. yeah i made a save game on 1.16.something.
Oh and... it doesnt really matter whether there would be discrepancy with the current chunk i am right now and the chunks i am yet to load for as long as the 1.17 update will apply on the ungenerated/unexplored chunk.
Thanks. Sorry for the trouble.
Right now i am playing mc.switch on the latest 1.16 version and as i have said on that 50blocks each direction boundary. I did that to prevent loading new chunks. I want to make a progress with the little land i have right now as well as my progress in the nether while waiting for the 1.17 update. Sounds silly but... i dont want to start from scratch on 1.17 update. And i dont want to explore so much on 1.16 knowing i'll be leaving that save behind and all my work will be a lost cause. That is why i secluded myself in the nether right now. thanks for the answer.
Ps. The reason i only moved 50blocks in each direction is to at least only affect that portion to not have the 1.17 update
Hello! I need some clarification with my problem.
I have minecraft java, win 10, and switch ed.

I don't see why your current save would break.

Just testing.
You could set up a worldborder. That way you don't need to worry about the generation too much.

My projects:
-are abandoned for now. I might pick 'em up in the future.
For now i'm working on a private modpack that suit's my own playstyle.
I am gonna stay in modded 1.12.2 untill my potato dies. No mercy! :Q
Except world border is java exclusive & OP is using Win 10/Switch (Bedrock) versions
