returning player here and I was AFK-fishing overnight, get about 10 full double chests, tons of books, not one of them has mending though, but a tons of mending fishing rod and mending bow. so is it still possible to get mending book from fishing? or do i have to set up a villager farm for it.Link Removed
Someone has calculated that even if you are using Sea of Luck 3 you only have a chance of 0.016% to get this book
It is a nuisance to grind for, but the reward is worth it because it means as long as you take good care of your item you'll never need a replacement for your tool or armour piece. Some have suggested taking this feature out of the game, but a change like this is going to alienate a significant number of people who want mending to remain as it is now. To nerf this enchant to oblivion or to make it a useless enchant would set a precedent into ruining the game even further, because where does it stop? do we remove potions or beacons? do we remove golden apples etc?
The book should stay as a treasure item obtainable by fishing as it is now, with its low probability rate.
What I don't agree with though is having mending already on bows and fishing rods, imo players should be made to pay XP with mending books to get items like this. It is definitely overpowered when you get already made weapons and tools with mending on them with no prior work penalty on them.
if you need it for all your items the chance is even lower unless your lucky
It makes sense because it is one of the most powerful enchantments in the game.
Also I'm not sure I agree with being able to farm unlimited amounts of mending books from villagers, with a properly setup villager trade system you could farm multi double chests full of it. I think its rarity in fishing is more balanced than this, had it not been for the fact that mending were already on some bows and fishing rods.

well mending villagers can sell you mending book for 1 emerald if you save them from being a zombie villager with huge discounts and you might get mending and if you have emeralds in the first place you can get unlimited mending books but the trade might go away or it gets higher i understand that it's pointless to get unlimited mending books

Some people may be collectoholics in that regard there, I understand your point though. There comes a point where a surplus is excessive and it becomes an unhealthy obsession or avarice. But I'd rather focus more time into builds than filling warehouses up full of mending books which is a legit waste of time, fishing or not.
I do fish for my enchantments too, despite the rarity of mending books. But by the time I've got a full set of mending equipment it is rare I have to replace them, and by the looks of things I do not see why other people would need to either. Some people are noobs though and will constantly lose their gear no matter what you try to teach them. Collectoholics aren't necessarily in the same category as noobs or inexperienced, but there isn't any point to stockpiling hundreds of chests of books with the same enchantment, not unless you have that many people on your server you want to share with

Yes - but the chance is quite low
