I'm building a mob farm and I'd Like to know what spot I should be afking at. My mob farm will surround me, so I need to know how far away to place it. Do mobs spawn on the 25th block counting the one I am on, or the 24th counting the one that I'm on.

Where px, py, pz are the player coordinates and sx, sy, sz are the spawn coordinates, with sx and sz always being the middle of a block (add 0.5 to x and z) and y is generally an integer (unless you are standing on a partial block) and the distance needs to be exactly 24 or greater for a mob to spawn.

Example, a player standing at 0.5, 64, 0.5 will allow mobs to spawn at block (0, 64, 24), effectively (0.5, 64, 24.5):

However, you'd need to be standing exactly in the middle so in practice mobs may not spawn until block 25 in two directions (24 in the other two directions); for a spawnable block at (1, 64, 24) you can be anywhere within block (0, 64, 0); of course, the y-coordinate also matters if you aren't at the same level:

The same also goes for mobs spawned from mob spawners, except they spawn when a player is within 16 blocks of the exact center of the block (including y, though the difference is very small; sqrt(dx^2 + dz^2) = 15.99 gives a distance of 15.998 when dy is 0.5).

The game measures distance from your exact position (as a decimal), while natural mob spawning spawns mobs in the middle of a block (x/z + 0.5):

the block you are on counts as block zero. Start counting from the block next to the one you're standing on.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.

TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.

Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

k, thank you.

Is this how ilmango made his gold farm platform?
