I use a custom server for one survival world, and a realm for another.
I wish the bedrock server app would support Minecraft on consoles over the internet though because custom servers let you customize them more and let you have more players on each given world. Seriously though whether you play Java or bedrock edition, home servers are the way to go if your friends are able to join.
I only play singleplayer Survival, not including using Creative when developing/testing mods as this isn't "normal" gameplay (I have no Creative worlds that I actually play on). I've also been playing like this for nearly 7 1/2 years, typically playing on a single world for months at a time and mainly starting new worlds for each major version of my mods which significantly alter world generation.
Purely 100% singleplayer survival, only using creative for overhead screenshots, or a copy of the world to plan some builds - but not all. I've no interest in multiplayer, I play alone and in survival. Although I have a few worlds, I have one main one which I chave consistantly been playing since 2010 which will hit to years old in October time. I am quite happy consistantly building and exploring new chunks to have to get some materials, and like the grind of gathering materials to build as I play in 1.14.2.
I am 100% always playing multiplayer modded minecraft. I don't have to be on a team, I just like having someone to chat with while I play and trade with from time to time. Its fun to do server build projects or take on modded bosses together. I generally stick to more difficult packs because I like staying in the same world for a year plus. On previous servers I've been able to do very large build projects and sometimes never finish the tech progression because there is so much to do
Single player survival almost exclusively. I wouldn't object to multiplayer if I had a group of friends currently playing, but I don't ATM. I don't think I've spent more than 5 minutes total in creative. I typically research how to do stuff online, then apply that knowledge in survival. I use a bare minimum of mods, (just MiniMap ATM).

Nothing wrong with doing a separate world in creative to test out redstone builds though, it's what I do from time to time.
So long as you're not using creative mode in the same world you play survival on, you're not cheating.
This is faster than looking up somebody else's Youtube video because the redstone build they are showcasing may not be what you're looking for.
What would be cheating though is using creative in the same world seed you're using for survival, then searching for strongholds and nether fortresses, as these things will directly affect normal gameplay.
Hi , im new.
SAGAMING

Singleplayer survival. 97%
Creative with my grandsons.
I played on a family friendly survival server for a while with my eldest grandson but he started playing other games with his friends.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Single player mostly, Multiplayer with my brother and Nephews on my brother's server.
