We are trying to type in commands and nothing comes up when I press " / " I tried changing the control key to ShiftRight and still nothing.
I need to know how to do this, also how in the heck do I find my friends who are in the same Realm? A map would be great, since the coordinates via F3 are useless to a newbie.

Unsure about the / problem, but you can download map mods for your account, everyone who would need a map would have to download it and install it too. Are you gonna use the most recent version 1.15.2? If so try Xaero's MiniMap. It has full instructions on page to install it.
Press [T] to open the chat and then type the "/" followed by the command, "/time" for instance.
Are you in 1.15.2?
If you're in an old version of Minecraft you might not get any help with finding the right command, you might have to look a command up in the Wiki, type in the whole command and press {Return] before anything happens.
Part of setting up a new world is enabling "cheats," so if that wasn't done when your new world was set up you won't be able to use cheats. If you watch the video that came from YouTube, you can learn how to turn 'cheats' on or at least check to see if you have it on. To do this you need to use NBTExplorer, and the girl in the video shows you how to use it. Or just download NBTExplorer from here
Are you op-ed? If you aren't an operator on a server you don't have access to commands. If that is the case, get the server owner (who I assume is a friend of yours?) to type "/op (your username)" in the chat and it should say in the logs "Opped (your username)" and you will have access to commands.
(The following section only applies to Java Edition)
If it is a single-player world, however, you have to enable cheats in the "More world options..." button and press "Enable cheats". If you have already started a single-player world, however, you can edit the NBT tag for cheats with NBTExplorer. Hope this helps!

Nothing can go here but time itself.

Just testing.

Are you OP in that world The owner of the world can OP you by doing /op <YOUR USERNAME>
Creeper, aw man. Yes. It’s true.
Does anyone know that song?'
Anyone?
I guess not.
Look at the keybinds and see if it says that "open command" is marked as "/". If not, rebind it so it is, or click "reset".
I have the honor to be your obedient servant,
A. Ham
