As said in the title I would like to know what people are interested in when they play on servers? what things do you like the server to have do you like survival factions etc? (it has been a while since i hosted a server for any Minecraft game) all feedback is appreciated!
Personally? I'm a simple woman, and I like simple Minecraft, lol Survival mode, doing all the regular things you would do in a singleplayer world, except with a community you can interact with, work with, build shops for, make communal builds with, and prank, haha. Small, invite-only servers are best for me, where I know I can trust the people I'm playing with not to grief, steal, or leave doors open.
I also enjoy logging into Hypixel once in a while for a round of build battle or other minigames.
I get the feeling neither of those is what you're asking though, so I'll stop there.
Nowdays it is tough getting longterm players on a server, I've been hosting a Minecraft server consistantly for the last 6+ years. Quite often players join build a bit, then like 2-4 weeks later they move onto another game. Is hard to find those longterm players that consistantly stick around, simply because they are already on other servers and sticking to them.
I don't think there are that many players just starting to play minecraft java edition. Yes, there are some, but not that many. Also, when there is a major update is kinda a bad time to recruit players, because alot do join, but just check out the new update, and you end up with a high percentage of players that disappear after 1-2 weeks, which then leaves you with a spawn area cluttered with tons of unfinished builds (ruins), that will never be worked on again. And, a huge whitelist of players that never return.
Myself, I run a longterm server, where we only do map wipes like once a year, and I try to avoid recruiting around major update time. Though on a server that mapwipes often, I guess update time would be a good time to try to build a community. Since, alot more hype & interest around minecraft. And 1.16 is definately one of the best updates in years! I've been running my server on snapshots (after verifying no gamebreaking bugs in current snapshots).

I have been on the search for a decent server. I'll admit that I am one of those people who join a server for awhile, play a bit and then move on. But I have good reasons too. Most of the time, the servers are nothing special, no one is doing anything, people are hardly interacting, etc. I makes it really hard to stick around. Everyone seems to be interested in gaining a community similar to Hermitcraft, etc but they forget that there is a lot of work that goes into that kind of community and group. I honestly much rather see people try to create something new rather than just copy something that already exists. That also goes for the hundreds of mini-game and faction servers that I see on here on a daily basis. I'd also like to mention that finding the right type of people is rather difficult. There are a lot of kids that play this game and they don't understand things the same way you and me do so there is a lot of conflict that follows.

You answered my question perfectly, if you have more to say, say it!
Nah, that was about it!
