Hey! I want to talk with you about my minecraft memories. It's interesting that some years ago version 1.6.4 was really good and now when I'm playing on it I feel anachronistic ;(. For me, classic versions of minecraft had their end at + - version 1.6 / 1.7. Am I lonely, that the new versions of minecraft doesn't make me happy? The new texturepack rather makes me sad. I think that this game is completly diffrent that that game, when I started playing. I know, that the youth will not understand me. It used to be better. Who still remember these old minecraft servers survival + plots or survival + factions. It was beautiful, but why can't I find any server simillar to this? Now, finding old styled paintball server is impossible ;(. What about you? What do you think about the new versions? What do you think about the old times? Yeah, I know my talk may be boring or pointless, but I had to tell you this xD
Things are different, yes, and some not as good, but overall it's not "bad", and I'd say much is actually better. If they can rid the latest versions of some of the technical issues and bugs (and keep performance decreases from repeating themselves, or better yet, improve it), then I feel like with 1.13 and 1.14 that Minecraft could actually be at another high point era. Time will tell.
As someone who started in 1.2.5 (the same rough "era" that 1.6 was the end of), there are those who felt "that" era (beta 1.8 to release 1.x) was bad as well, and indeed some of the reasons given have some merit, even if I loved those versions then.
Brother, "the youth". You are acting like you're the oldest person alive man, relax. But yeah it's changed, I made an account like in 2011 with my cousin after begging our family to buy us accounts. Back when it was the old beta versions. The version we played on was on the 1.3 and man we were bad at the game, then a little while after we got into multiplayer and started joining this server which I can't remember the name for it. But us and our mates used to hop onto that server and build towns on that server. So looking back at it, there wasn't a care in the world.
At the same time a lot of stuff has improved like building, sprinting, fishing, etc. Even though I don't really play the game anymore, still fun to think about it.
I understand your frustration. I'm just mentioning old times. I know it may seems arrogant, sorry for this xdd. I just wanted to say that the gameplay looked different. Some features are nice, but I usually I'm not using them so often.
PS: I had forgotten to say that these words written upwards are highly personal... I may say that's a kind of nostalgia.... XD
I'm quite unusual in that I've never played on any version past 1.6.4, even more than 6 years after the release of 1.7 ("played" as on a normal Survival world); there are various factors (explained in the link in my signature) with the main ones being my playstyle and ability to make my own mods (I could add anything that I might want from a newer update myself, which isn't much at all; for example, I've made Ender chests either have a double chest of capacity or added a new separate block for 3x the total space, which could be compared to how Shulker boxes give you more storage, and which I added long before 1.9. Many other features, like my own version of Mending, are more to show my own ideas (it works exactly like renaming an item did before 1.8, including repairing them in the anvil for a quality-based cost, so all that this changes is how I get it, not how I repair items afterwards; while others are just for fun, like adding husks and strays or more wood types for fences so mineshafts and villages can have biome-dependent wood).
As someone that has played from 1.4.5 all the way through to 1.15 Pre-Release 3 with a fair amount of Vanilla and mostly mods, and only checking out the older versions prior to 1.4.5 a few times like 1.2.5, the alphas/betas (as I could never get 1.0 to work for whatever reason) I got to say I see the differences but while the game has changed I'd not say it's all bad. I only played on servers more around 1.10 or 1.12 and that was with players that play on 1.7.10 to more in the 1.13+ I'm on datapack or mod devs servers helping out with ideas and making videos on their creations. All prior to 1.10 it's been LAN with family who have now dropped off the game (or most of the time singleplayer). I do remember that time I built stuff in 1.4.5, I remember the stuff I built in 1.10 but I can't relate to those that have played prior to 1.3.2 when it was new.
I do like a lot of the new changes like the Blast Furnace, Smoker and such as a modded player who likes tech mods, other times the ocean changes can be really fun, but I still hate the 1.7 biomes and prefer the 1.6.4 and prior biome gen, and going to old versions and thinking about new features then is cool but shows what you get used to and what you like from newer and the restrictions of older; but when it comes to 1.2.5 or prior I do feel the old controls are really cool although when fighting mobs can be a tad annoying at times, some updates are a bit game changing like 1.9 combat to new expansions to the end, but have I really cared even when I've only done them once (The End, Woodland Mansion, Igloo), not really. I know there, 'there' but do I think of it changing the game, no, the ocean areas from 1.13 I have but the in-between of 1.8 ocean monuments to the 1.10/1.11 structures not really, I still enjoy a Desert or Jungle Temple over them really. I can ignore the new ones and just imagine it's an older version as it's just an expanded thing, woodland mansions I've rarely seen and only done once but if I saw them a lot more then I'd say it would have changed the game a lot more for me so I mostly see the game as partly changing, partly not if I rarely see them as it could feel like I'm back a few versions. To me it depends on what I'm up for doing in the game, building a map in 1.8 just recently or using mods in 1.15, to going back a few versions and noticing the control additions and differences in 1.8 and below can be a bit awkward once you adapt but it's still fun. Otherwise if I want a beta fix in modern version I can use mods to get that feel, it's not 100% the same but fairly close enough that it feels right with a beta feel just not having to deal with the things you can struggle with in those versions control wise or missing out on new features you do want to use over others.
I do have nostalgia for the 1.4.7 to 1.6.4 era mostly, not so much 1.7.10 as I go back to it a lot but either way I'd say the game hasn't gotten that much worse, some updates are a bit too deep in changing the game sure but some just 'exist' and you can ignore them if they never happen to spawn or you don't do them like with The End areas. That's how I see things at least.
