I’m building an automated pumpkin farm and I have the observer and piston setup even with a hopper system to collect all the pumpkins that drop, but my pumpkins won’t grow. I have a large light source(18 glow stone and water around the dirt. I just want to know how to get my pumpkins to grow
Hello! Your description is quite bland and I am not sure how to answer it properly without a picture. However, I hope these tips are helpful to your build. If you could provide a picture of the build I may be able to offer a solution.
1) Pumpkins will not grow on Stone blocks. The block must be dirt.
2) Pumpkins will not grow with a block next to it. There must be at least 1 dirt block near the 4 sides of the plant.
As I said, without a picture, it is quite hard to answer this. Provide one, we will work out a solution.
Pumpkin seeds won't grow into full stems if the block above them is solid and opaque, or if they don't have enough light. The block above them can be transparent/non-solid, such as glass, slabs, stairs, or fences.
Pumpkins grow faster if they don't have other pumpkin stems in an adjacent block.

Thanks for the help the problem was the pumpkins couldn’t grow with blocks over the seeds. I’ve seen people with farms that have blocks over them so maybe my game isn’t fully updated?

PS4 is still on the legacy edition. It's extremely important to denote which platform you're using, as there could be significant differences between them.
Also, using the specific PS4 section of the forums may (or may not) get your question to the attention of more people with the appropriate experience and hardware to test things.

Thank you.
What version are you playing?
I think I remember pumpkins not growing with a block above them but that is definitely not the case in 1.14.4
They will grow with blocks above both the plant and the pumpkin.
Just testing.
Make sure the pumpkins have sunlight and dirt

They do in 1.14.4
That's solid blocks over both the seedlings/stems and pumpkins and they grew unassisted from seeds (no bonemeal).
Just testing.
I stand corrected.
I fixed it, the problem was that there was blocks over the seed so it wouldn’t grow so I changed the red stone setup.
