In an Xisuma video I watched the other day he mentioned the above nether gold farm getting a nerf in 1.14.3. he didn’t elaborate, and I’ve done some googling but not found any info out. Does anyone have any more info regarding this. It’ssomething I’d never got round to building I was intending to do so until now, and I don’t want to waste my time with 1.14.3 imminent.[/p]
In past versions, when you aggro the seeder pigmen (the one you are trying not to kill, which you have trapped so it can yell out to its buddies to come deal with this cheesemeister) all the other pigmen would get angry and rush towards you. This would form a nearly-endless wave of angry pigmen because the ones running off the edge would die and more could spawn...which would instantly get angry and rush off the edge to quickly die (rinse and repeat until that odd instance when all the pigmen are dead and more haven't yet spawned).
It's this part that's been nerfed, in that it's much harder if not impossible to keep the angry wave going. Specifically, I'm guessing that newly-spawned pigmen do not generate already-angry and will wait for another distress call before rushing your position. In practical terms, this means you just have to whack the pigmen more often.
Information on the exact changes made is 'thin' (to the point of anorexia), but this appears to have been occassioned by complaints of pigmen remaining aggro-ed when a player had been killed or otherwise left the nether [ie the long standing behavior that aggro counters needed to be loaded in order to be decremented].
From at least one demonstartion of the effect it appears pigamn aggro is now timed (ie that it persists for a specific period after the player last strikes a pigman.) [In the mentioned instance, pigmen that had charged the collection station of the farm were seen in pacific mode just outside the station, as the nearest spawnable positions were ~24 blocks away these must have been aggro-ed pigmen that de-aggro-ed while within the 40 block follow distance.]
Based on this conjecture the latest pigamn mechanic [if it is not fixed in future snapshots] would allow one to simple wall oneself up and wait out the timer, thus removing one of the major challebges of the nether.
It is to be hoped that MS/Mj [despite an evident continuing hostility to farms] does not retain this dimension nerfing mechanic….
