I've got one in my base that works, although not terribly well. Basic concept is as follows.
At top is a small 2x2x2 area with a floor of soul sand with hoppers below that. I tossed a crapload of chicken eggs into here to hatch a bunch of chickens, then fed them seeds until I had even more. These are the egg-layers.
The hoppers under the soul sand feed into a storage double chest or two and then into a dispenser. The dispenser is hooked up to a switch-off-able hopper clock that causes the dispenser to rapidly fire eggs into a hatching chamber.
This hatching chamber consists of a pair of daylight sensors atop hoppers, with glass along the sides not filled with the egg-shooting dispenser. Eggs hit the daylight sensor and hatch chicks, who then stand around on top of the daylight sensor until they grow into adults.
When I notice that they grew into adults, I manually hit a button that triggers dispensers to place buckets of water in the air space above the chickens, and they float up into the water with no air above it and drown. Unfortunately with the new 1.13 and later water mechanics, all their drops float up to the top of this water, so I then hit the same button and the water is retracted back into the buckets in the dispensers, and the feathers/meat falls back down to be collected by the hoppers below the daylight sensors.
Those hoppers feed into a final chest where I can collect the feathers and raw chicken. It also collects any eggs they lay once they grow into adults, which I can then manually move to the storage chest feeding into the egg-flinger dispenser, which I then activate with a switch on the hopper clock. Once the chest and dispenser are empty, I switch it off and wait for the baby chicks to grow into adults.

Raise the water dispenser by 1 (maybe 2) block and let it flow down to where you were dispensing the previous water. Items only float to the top in source blocks, they don't float when water is flowing downwards. I don't think chickens will be able to swim to the top because of the flowing water, either, so that keeps the drownings closer to the slab where they should be pushed down to the hopper instead of making it high enough to get into the source.
They're not broken, just raise the water by 1 or 2 blocks. This may require having to modify the redstone a little bit, but that should be child's play for anyone following a video tutorial.
All you need is to make a hopper connected to a chest, then surround the hoppers so that chickens wouldn't be able to escape, then threw eggs so that there would be chickens above the hopper so that it would be able to collect the eggs being laid by those chickens. Then connect the chest which the hopper pouring eggs in to a dispenser, and when there are enough egg, dispense the eggs using dispenser which firing items repeatedly. The eggs will hatch into chicks, wait for the chicks to grow then kill them.
Xisumavoid's is working fine. Daughter made me build it for her. Chicken farms aren't worth it imo though. Many better alternatives.
i mean , for a beginner farm it's good , but when you make gold and carrot farms they are gonna be worthless
btw yall , im trying to find an AUTOMATED chicken farm , where the chickens hatch and then die when they grow up , manual one works fine but i want an automated one

Have you tried the versions that use a solid block to suffocate the adults? (Solid lock goes permanently where the lava is intermittently.)
This gives uncooked chicken , but (with the new furnace mechanics [as of 1.13] and the 1.14 bamboo farms) that could be seen as an advantage….

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.
Title explains it , does anybody knows a working 1.14.2 , easy-to-make , cheap chicken farm ? the old designs don't work anymore for some reason

Seems good , but can you give me some screenshots of how they look like ?
Which design is it that is broken?
all youtube designs , either they are broken , so hard to make or gives little to no food
