Can't answer that without more detail. I mean, will a baby drop the same items in the same quantities or will they drop different items/less of the same items? If the net gain isn't worth the same as the adults, I'll still wash the babies to the slaughter pen and watch them grow up first. If it's same or better or even simply provides a new useful item I can't get from adults, there's no reason for that waiting period.

Agreed. I have no qualms about doing this because they aren't real. It is strictly a cost/utility comparison.

No, but I can see how other players would be completely justified in seeking out and killing the cute and small for their very survival. Mojang made the right decision.
