Oh no, this is terrible news. I took a look at some of the alternatives mentioned in this thread, and there is no obvious replacement.
I learned so much reading this forum and I am grateful to all the experts who have shared their knowledge. I also want to express my thanks to everyone who took the time to answer all my questions. I will miss these forums terribly.
I've been more a fan of real-time conversations so I've always preferred Discord to Forums, though I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.
If it helps Discord lets you "pin" messages, so theoretically you could make a discord with a channel for something specific in mind, and pin posts that are important or noteworthy there. Though I absolutely understand that's in no way a proper replacement for forum threads, I figured I'd bring it up to be of help.
Here's my pennies worth...
....IF I understand right Curse 'brought out' MinecraftForums a while back...
....Curse also has their own forum 'CurseForge' - which in your words is 'mush'
....If Curse already owns this forum - they must already have all our logon/registration details
So how about this...
......Why not create all the different MinecraftForum Sections that are here onto the CurseForge Forum - starting afresh with clean forums, allowing more 'up to date' help to be posted
.... Transfer all the 'active' members that have posted here (let's say those who have posted in the last 6-12 months) & transfer those members details onto CurseForge (since they both use Twitch logon)
......Also add a 'new' Forum section for 'Top 100 MinecraftForum Posts' - members can post links to popular posts that are on here (for reference etc) - then Curse can add some form of voting system. Other members can then vote on the posts/links & the links with the least votes get removed from that section (a bit like Reddit)
PMC has been around for many years. I know PMC/MCF communities have always been at war with whose better, but I've used both for years and years. Since its at least an established product, I highly suggest we migrate over to PMC. Reddit, Tumblr, Discord, none allow for what we really need, and PMC does.
I'll probably make a new one in hopes of gathering some of the current community, as will many I'm sure. If you want to help out/get involved PM me on here before the archive or msg my Discord Airo#4392
r/Minecraft seems to be largely players showing off creations and screenshots, not so much discussion, yet at the same time they have silly guidelines such as don't post a picture of a surprising mob outside a window, of a cake day, and don't debate which versions are better (actually, that's.. kind of tied to criticism of the game... which needs to be spoken).
I'm interested in there being a more open, third-party place for discussing Minecraft, perhaps that also encourages a decent and interesting community. One that doesn't ban criticism of the game, mentioning of the name Notch, or screenshots of crafting cake.
If you're interested too, and would like to discuss this with me or have any ideas, add me on discord: 0ct0ber#6230. I might host a new subreddit and/or discord server for discussion, but would probably need some moderators.
The recent archiving of the forums is very unfortunate. I have only recently created an account and have asked some questions, but it has been a home to me for many years. The minecraft forum has saved me an incredible amount of time from reading questions. For this reason, I am using my years of experience with web development to program a Minecraft Forum. I am currently more than half way done with this, and will continue to keep working on it. Feel free to ask me questions about this. I will keep you all updated as to my progress!

I wouldn't bother unless you understand personally identifiable information and the general data protection regulation. I still bet $50 this is the real reason they are closing the forums.

Defender of the 1.14 Textures/Bedrock Edition
i found r/minecraftforums for the mods, maybe they can give it a new life as a minecraft forums reboot
The forums were expensive to run and never made a profit. This was a business decision.
This have a good time
This is the best option I have seen so far.

If she wants the shaft, she must play the Craft.

I'd love to help anyway I can. I hate seeing MCF shut down and would like to see it carry on.. I've started work on something myself actually.

I mean, if we were to make one, we'd need all the help we could get
I'm sure a particular moderator wont miss me causing trouble =P

Discord is not a viable option for anything other than random chatting.
It doesn't have the structure of a real forum and doesn't allow for proper discussion.
It's just an MSN Messenger + Skype on steriods, but nowhere as good as a forum.
Answers.Microsoft.com. Same developer right?
I did a quick Google search for generic, popular forums. Aside from Reddit, this is honestly one of the best I could find.
These are dark times indeed.
