I have an interesting imaginary situation. Imagine if Mojang in some way changes how the food works and basically make fishes have distinguishable advantages over other food item. They made the fishing mechanic more complex and yet kind of fun. However, the cost of this mechanic is that AFK fishing is completely broken to the point where AFK fishing is basically impossible. Would you be mad at Mojang if such things happen? Would you demand Mojang some sort of alternatives to the AFK fishing? What would be your opinion?
No, no and I'd probably think it was an improvement.
Personally I already think fishing is kind of fun and I don't do AFK, except sometimes staying in game while I go to the bathroom or make a quick meal if I'm waiting for furnaces to finish smelting so I can consolidate my iron during a long mining session, walled in waiting for a Poison effect to wear off or something like that.
Even if they nerfed something that was an integral part of my playstyle I'd like to think I'd only be temporarally irritated and I don't see any point in demanding anything, It's Mojangs game and they make the decisions about the direction the gave evolves, I might well sign a petition asking for a reversal of the change (or an option to reverse the change.)
The problem with MS/Mj griefing a current mechanic has less to do with the utility/desirability of the mechanic than with MS/Mj attempting to dictate playstyle.
Persson's great idea (and what was largely responsible for making MC such a success) was to make a sandbox where the 'game' sets up a 'world' with some 'physics' and what 'players' do therein is up to each individual:
love caving, cool; hate caving, cool
[MobB and the bed are a great example, there are players who do not want the unavoidable irritation. That bed-touching can infinitly delay the threat is immaterial; the addition adds nothing but annoyance to certain playstyles.
Ditto the drowned midwater spawning.]
Correcting recent additions that have been shown to be problematic [qv various obvious examples already mentioned] is one thing, but changing longstanding mechanics kills the basic premise of being able to update one's world with each new addition.
[Note things such as the the block id reorganization and command syntax rework fall into a different catagory as both are invisible during normal play — still annoying (and to be avoided where possible), but affecting only those players using these meta-game tools. ]

Not relevant to the fundamental argument against playstyle coercing changes, but…
Fishing already has a "distinguishable [advantage] over other food [sources]" as one can acquire resources (some otherwise quite rare) as part of the process. (The rabbit's foot drop and guardian farms are the nearest non-fishing alternatives that comes to mind.)
My impression is that little of the AFK fishing (or, for that matter, other forms of fishing) is aimed primarily at getting food.

WARNING: I have an extemely "grindy" playstyle; YMMV — if this doesn't seem fun to you, mine what you can from it & bin the rest.
