a while back a friend and I made a singleplayer world in 1.8.9. we eventually killed the ender dragon in that world. we stopped playing the world after that, until a few days ago, when we came back to it, except this time, we played in 1.13.2. it was great, as unloaded chunks caused 1.13 aspects to appear, which we found out when we went to an ocean.
but again, we did kill the ender dragon in 1.8, which means that there were no end cities. my question is, now that the world in loaded into 1.13, will end cities generate in unloaded chunks in the end? my theory is that if we re-spawn the dragon, it will open an end gate out of the island. but will this happen if the world was once in 1.8, is what puzzles me.
it should also be worth mentioning that there were none of those floating bedrock "doors" that make the portal to the outer end. would they spawn if we killed the dragon again?
You should have end cities just as if the world were originally generated in 1.13
Unless you already explored the areas where they would generate in 1.8 (which seems pretty unlikely since there would have been nothing there.)
I suspect that's one reason they put the end cities so far out, to make sure the chunks they generate in hadn't been loaded in earlier versions.
(Another reason could be to give you a reason to re-summon the dragon. )
And every time you kill the dragon in 1.13 you should get an end gate.
The only thing to worry about is that some people have had trouble re-summoning the dragon in old worlds, something about the portal to the Overworld, which is used to place the end crystals to summon the dragon, being a couple of blocks off I think.
But give it a try, if it doesn't work try searching for the threads about the problem and see if there was a solution, if that fails you could build a bridge out to the end city area. (or, as a last resort, cheat and use Creative mode to fly out.)
I'd assume it's unlikely, but if you can respawn the dragon in your 1.13 attempt of that same world you did in 1.8.9 then I'd say it's possible for it maybe to try and trigger the End City portal. But I'm just thinking on simple terms rather than anything else obviously to answer the question since I don't think it's likely.

Hey y'all,
sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

Yes and yes (hopefully).

Just testing.
so, we just tried to resummon the dragon and nothing happened. any help would be appreciated, as i believe i misplaced the crystals
