First I apologize if this is not the correct place for this post. I just purchased, through minecraft.net the minecraft version for windows 10 which was $29 for my daughter. Apparently, and me not knowing as I am not familiar with minecraft, this edition is different than normal minecraft? She states it is different and that she can't do things she was able to do in other minecraft editions? As well, she states that she has version 1.8.9 and that the other one is version 1.13.
I don't understand the game and even though I tried looking into it, I can't get a hold of it or understand it. Must be the chemo. I assumed the minecraft game was all the same. Guess it is not? Is a PC version different than the windows 10 version?
Is there a popular version or complete version? What do I need to do so she can have, if there is, a complete or proper version. I would of thought that buying it for windows would of been the complete proper game.
Also, when she goes to minecraft.net it states that she does not have minecraft and when we log in it prompts us through the purchase process again.
So I assume I have the minecraft bedrock on windows 10? This is a less of a game, or different then the Java edition? I also assume these can't be interchanged? I am stuck with the windows 10?
Java Edition is the "default" version, which Minecraft development began with and that most PC-players are using.
Bedrock Edition, the one you probably purchased, was added as an alternative approach after Mojang was sold to Microsoft.
It is also available for PC (Win 10 only), but unlike Java it is also officially supportet on X-Box, Switch and various Mobile OS.
With that being said, Java and Bedrock Editions sadly are not compatible with each other. They are not even developed after the same schedule. For instance, Bedrock 1.8 already has some features that have not yet been added to Java 1.13 (Both being the latest full releases).
You can try your luck and refund your Bedrock Edition, but Java Edition has to be bought separately. Sorry for the bad news.
I'd say it depends what your looking for, community content options, multiplayer, or just a good version of the game (as in updated still, as Legacy Console versions exist that aren't supported anymore so). They differ, but in my opinion those factors are what keeps me with Java Edition compared to the Xbox One/Xbox 360 versions I have. They are great, but Java had mods so I'm still with it. Xbox One (from my perspective, but talking about Bedrock really), while fitting under Bedrock (and a lot of platforms fit under Bedrock, so great for crossplay/online multiplayer), but has addons, which aren't bad, but the marketplace and the content on there never appealed to me.
Multiplayer has never been a factor for me today compared to when I first got that game versions I have still. But I find multiplayer LAN (family member multiplayer most likely) is best with console versions/bedrock I feel. Java isn't bad for this, but I find when doing LAN or Online it's fine, but for people in the same household, I find it's more suitable to use Bedrock editions, and I am a Java Edition only player these days so if that says something. But it's my opinion, so I'm probably alone on this.
Bedrock platforms can be clear with this image from the wiki below this post:
I feel that 'accessibility' wasn't a bad idea for Minecraft, but for new customers/new players, it's not easy to get into which one you want for feature differences, but more so what devices you have on you; from consoles, to PC, to mobile. But features have always sold me more than multiplayer (even having played multiplayer on console or Java Edition with family, or used to anyways).

Hello all

Can anyone shed some light on what I did wrong?
Thank you
There is Minecraft Bedrock which runs on Win10 and XBox, then Minecraft Java edition which runs on anything that can run Java.
So I assume I have the minecraft bedrock on windows 10? This is a less of a game, or different then the Java edition? I also assume these can't be interchanged? I am stuck with the windows 10?
