I was trying to download Optifine and almost had a heart attack when I almost downloaded an .apk on my phone from AdFly's horrible, awful, malicious ads (Luckily managed to cancel it in time - i hope....)(yes, I download from my phone and put onto my computer because its faster to catch stuff like that). WHY do they keep using this site? I can't stand it, it actually makes me angry lol. Do they not realize how much of a risk they're putting on their fellow players? I seriously don't understand.
I wasn't able to download Optifine at all because of it, and honestly, maybe thats for the best if this is how they're going to do it. I get they want money, but why not just do donations? Instead of putting people at risk!
I agree adfly is annoying, I wasn't sure about optifine at first but then I found the (mirror) download to be the way to go and not directing me to adfly, so I was glad to know that (might not apply to every though) Just what I came across with Optifine 1.13.2 HD E4 at least (had to use it for testing to answer a question of another forum post so I got the file for that purpose, otherwise never I use Optifine so wouldn't have known any different).
Most mod devs have gone the donation route on curse I think or just posted to curse though which made me happy devs were posting to a safe site, but when ChickenBones for example (when they made NEI and otherwise back in the day) posted to their own site and it bugged me it directs to adfly, I just gave up so often I didn't bother and went elsewhere. That and mod repost sites do it 'I think' (from what I've heard these days) but eh why bother going to those when curse exists for safe mod, datapack, resource pack, world saves and otherwise community content hosting access by the devs themselves instead of dodgey mods/manipulated (from what I've heard) from dodgey mod repost sites I guess.
I hate ad sites as much as the next person, I know devs need the money for their efforts but eh. It's a community offer of content to add to the game being held back, its ridiculous, do we need to the 'give me money' for "community content", or otherwise no matter the effort, it turns me away and I've just stuck with Curse for anything since (again I don't use Optifine at all unless the odd occassion but found out the mirror source download to be fine instead only once, no idea if this applies to every mirror download though.)
IDK at somewhere around a million downloads I dumped Adfly and Adfocus. You can make about $10 in 6 months and always limited by random policy excuses no matter your download rate. New users get high rates to trick them into staying and eventually they go to almost zero.
I quit Adfly and Adfocus years ago and only provide ad free downloads.
With all the information easily available today, there is no excuse for using these services. Well unless you are into maliciously attacking your patrons for $0.0001.
Adfly is annoying, but it's not dangerous, it's just ads, no viruses, there is nothing to worry about. People just try to earn some pennies. Adfly pays up to $6 per 1000 clicks

It does have viruses. Didn't you ever click the "Skip ad" button then instead of opening what you want it opened something like "Free movie website 100% free download" or something?
Adfly is an easy way for the creators to get some money for their work. You were downloading a mod or texture pack but ended up installing an apk? My grandma has more internet skill than you xD
What you don't understand on simple "almost downloaded an .apk" sentence?
He said he almost downloaded .apk, not he downloaded.
And yes, adfly is annoying, and there's malicious ads shown on it all the time. And that's fact.
Sites like that are why I use uBlock on my computer. I'd rather not chance hitting the wrong download link by mistake because the real one is playing "Where's Waldo?" with me.
Here's the difference it makes on MediaFire, for example. It's crazy just how much clutter and fake download buttons there can be.
I have AdBlockPlus installed so I see very few ads.
However, a long time ago I learned to ALWAYS click on "mirror" when downloading Optifine files. That bypasses adfly.

I don't understand why they continue to use ad.fly either, curseforge pays more anyway...
Minecraftforge had a similar incident with adfoc.us where it would install malware onto chrome browsers, so google didn't allow downloading from minecraftforge.net via google chrome for months.

The images are what I came across at least. And have adblocker, no clue if anything else is supposed to appear but I had no issues.

Yeah, optifine does that. To prevent it, use uBlock Origin. And most mods don't even use it, Curseforge's mods don't have Adfly.

Stay fluffy~
Just to clarify: You can't avoid the ads before the skip ad button. They're pretty nasty fast.
