I presume that the blocks just above the spawning platforms are slabs?
You are standing more than 24 and less than 128 blocks away?
It is darker than that normally, right?
It looks like you are playing on a server, the mob cap may be taken up by mobs near other players, if you look at the 4th line of the debug screen (F3) what is the second number? (the one after the "/" after the E:) that's entities, which includes mobs but also some other things.
In single player skyblock where there isn't anywhere else to spawn your spawner might be big enough but unless you are alone on the server I'd think you should make it bigger.
Unless that's an old version of Minecraft I don't know if mobs will step off spawning platforms unless you line the edges with open trapdoors, though that wouldn't stop them from spawning of course.
I'm on a server, will find out what the mob cap is.
I'm playing on pc 1.12.2 mc.
As for the darkness, when I'm inside, and I check the light level it reads 0
Also, they just dont seem to be spawning in huge numbers. I have a mob farm on the other side of my island base and everything else around my spider farm is lit up
You should also use F3 to try to tell how many mobs there are on the whole server, even if they happen to have a mob cap per island I wouldn't expect that to be a guaranteed number but in addition to the total cap.
Or if it's a small server try to find a time when you are on alone and see if the rates improve.
How are the rates in your other mob farm?
Is that a darkroom spawner as well or a cage spawner?
And are those mobs killed off right away or do they pile up?
(Or do you disable it when testing the spider farm?)
I still think you should make the spawner larger, unless there's more than seen in the second picture that's only 4 blocks for spawning (you need the 3X3 space for a spider to spawn but it will always spawn with its center on the center block.)
When I stand by my mob farm, E shows 7/64 and I'm getting a lot of mobs regularly. When I look at E by my spider farm, I get 0/6. The platform is only 4 spawning blocks in the spider farm. We dont have spawners on this server, we have to use a darkroom farm. The mob farm is set up to where they are left with one heart only, some die when they fall which is ok with me.
Right now we are hardly getting any players because everyone is taking a break while waiting for aquatic update.
As for the spider farm, would it work just as well if I went up instead of out?
Thank you so much, as usual, you always seem to be the one to help me out.
The image shows the spider farm I made yesterday. No spawner tho. I havent had any spiders dropping and I dont see any spiders inside either.
This is from a tutorial I followed.
I have no idea why spiders arent even spawning inside.

Just testing.
