I am sure this topic has been discussed many times before, but I am in need of some help. I am building a quad witch hut setup on my survival world. I know this will be extremely overkill for my resource needs but am building it more for the fun of building the large project then for the resources. I am not great with math and am having trouble finding the proper afk spot which will activate all four huts reliably. I would be greatly appreciative if someone with more math knowledge and experience could help me out with this problem.
The coordinates for my four witch huts are
Hut #1 X 506 / Z 867
Hut #2 X 652 / Z 867
Hut #3 X 652 / Z 1044
Hut #4 X 492 / Z 1028
My killing method is by drop shaft which terminates at Y level 30
Thanks in advance for any help the community can offer.
Hey, since you didn't give any heights (except for the bottom of the drop shaft) I completely forgot to take them into consideration but they do matter.
Fortunately not all that much, at that horizontal distance a 35 block drop would add about 5 blocks to the distance making it about 120 blocks so you might want to try water streams just under the huts to move the witches towards the center before dropping them, definitely don't have the drop shafts at the furthest corner from your afk spot.
I'm not sure how much the height of witch huts can vary, given that a 35 block difference only adds 5 blocks you're probably ok but your afk spot should be as close to the height of the huts as possible to allow spawning at the far corners of the spawning platforms.
the coordinates for the four corners of each of my 4 Huts are

My Highest Y coordinate is 72, and the floor of my killing shafts are at Y 30.
I tried the coordinates you gave me at Y 120 and got basically no drops from my two currently operational Huts. I moved down to Y 59 and got Drops but not nearly as many as if I AFK on the temporary platform i've built at Y 120 directly over the center of each hut.
Any further thoughts you have on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, at Y=120 most of the spawning floor is probably out of range and even more so the bottom of the killing shafts.
I don't know if the witches will actually despawn in mid air but the Wiki does suggest mobs outside 128 blocks despawn immediately.
On the other hand you'd get fewer mobs in caves.
So unless you want to light up all the caves to get the maximum spawn rate out of all 4 huts you're probably better off settling for one hut with minimum spawns in caves.
You might even try a platform at Y=170 or so for even fewer cave spawns.
I don't know the math but what your describing was kinda what my intuition was saying was happening. I've been working on lighting caves up off and on for about a month now, and hope I have most lit. Im going to drop my AFK spot down to between Y 30 and 40 and see how that works.
Again thanks a lot for following this post and offering your insight.

Unless I've made a mistake somewhere a good afk spot would be X 577 / Z 955 which is
113 blocks from hut #1,
115 blocks from hut #2,
116 blocks from hut #3 and
112 blocks from hut #4
(give or take a block) which is cutting it pretty close but should work.
X 579 / 955 would be even better, it's
114 blocks from hut #1,
114 blocks from hut #2,
115 blocks from hut #3 and
113 blocks from hut #4.
Just testing.
Awesome, thanks a lot for the input, i will give that a shot
