A year ago, I looked at a thread about the terracotta blocks and was surprised to see that only 9% of people hated terracotta and I made a thread about when Minecraft went bad. At that point, I was I sought to bring down the myth the mIneCRaftt is DIeiiiiing and that was only a vocal minority! Now, since 1.13 in coming out soon, I decided to post another thread. (Since bumping is now against the rules)
Terracotta blocks are just stained clay renamed. Unless it changes in 1.13, the data tag or whatever it's called is still minecraft:stained_hardened_clay.
And no, Minecraft is not "dying" either. In fact, there are like twice as many active players in the game than there were back when Microsoft bought Mojang, if not more. Now, I would say these forums are starting to die, and I wouldn't be surprise if that has something to do with the unnessasary merge with Twitch (MCForums is literally the only reason I even have a Twitch account, but I do use it to do streams at the same time I use Youtube...).
It is true that many players who bought the game between Alpha and early Release no longer play because they "hate the game now because it's different than when they bought it", But that doesn't change the fact that Minecraft has around 75 million active players.
I got the game a month before 1.8 came out, so things have changed for me too, but I have played the older versions too, and the only reason people like it better is for nostalgia. Minecraft is better than it was when it was officially released in 2011 (I guess you could say it was released in 2009, but that was Alpha...).
There's no selection on the poll for the following:
1) I went to college, no more time.
2) I started working 40+ hr. weeks.
3) I got a girlfriend/ boyfriend.
4) Just married.
5) Just had a kid.
6) Going through a divorce.
7) YT channel never did/ doesn't pay the bills.
8) I made friends playing this other game, so no time for MC.
All reasons people might stop playing, nothing to do with MC "per se", and all reasons I think have far more to do with people no longer playing MC than some thought of "Minecraft went bad."
Nothing has changed for me over the past year - I have still not updated past 1.6.4, which is basically the same version that I've played on since I bought the game (1.5.1). This does not have so much to do with newer updates being "bad" though, at least not now or with my modding abilities; I've even already added some 1.13 features to my mod, which I no longer consider to be 1.6.4 but my "own" game (I posted a thread a while back with more details on why I still play a 4+ year old version).
Also, fun fact: over 22 million people bought the game over the past year - including an increase in monthly active players from 55 to 74 million (there were only 54 million total sales when Microsoft bought Mojang) and an increase in monthly sales from 1.7 to 2 million. And, of course, most of those new players have most likely never played a version without blocks like terracotta (FWIW, the OP most likely means glazed terracotta, which are quite different from most other blocks). The majority of servers are also on the latest release despite claims that most have not updated past 1.8 (more than a third of all active servers are on 1.12.2 with another quarter on 1.12 and 1.12.1).
As for the forums, they have been dying since 2013, long before Twitch, for reasons I'm not entirely certain of since the Wayback Machine shows that over 41,000 members have registered so far this year, but for some reason the vast majority never interact (why sign up on a forum if you are never going to post? I have a suspicion that most were not made by a human). In fact, many subforums have actually lost posts (right now there are 1,001,117 in this forum but the archived page from January 10 shows 1,001,229 - a net loss of 112. Even more so, my post about the forum's decline shows that Survival Mode had 1,205,090 posts in October 2017 - now there are 1,201,714 for a net loss of 3,376 - so the forums have actually declined so much that deleted posts exceed new posts (of course, this begs the question of why so many posts are being deleted; they have to be coming from old threads).
I really *REALLY* look forward to when "custom data driven world generation" becomes a "thing" in Minecraft, and seeing what TheMasterCaver does with it. While I appreciate your hacking skills to make Minecraft in your own vision, and I *LOVE* what you've done with caves, I'd so love being able to read a .json and tweak it myself seeing what you've done with it.
No... Minecraft is getting better, and just getting started.
All reasons people might stop playing, nothing to do with MC "per se", and all reasons I think have far more to do with people no longer playing MC than some thought of "Minecraft went bad."
You are right, there are other reasons people stop playing Minecraft. I have taken long breaks (Months long, one of them was almost a whole year) from the game because I wanted to play other games. But I'm just saying, I see a LOT of people quitting the game whilst saying "This game is terrible now, they should have never added <x>, or removed <y>, or changed <z>!"
Though I gotta say, I see that with multiple games/game series that change over time, where people don't like the newest features because they're different from what they started with. I know it's their opinion, but it kinda makes me mad...

...stop using terracotta blocks!!!there are tones of ather blocks in the game.useles thread you made here mate !!! 😁
Man, remember when we all hated hunger and thought the game would die?
Me personally, I hated the new combat and didn't play for a few months. I inevitably came back to it and learned how to play with the new combat, and now I thoroughly enjoy it.
I guess it comes down to when you started playing and what changed after. I started when the game was only creative, and in your browser. I thought potions and enchanting would ruin the game. The nether was the worst addition, and wow, void fog? The worst!
Point is. Don't get worked up over something being added, because if it was really that bad, you know there will be a mod to revert that change.
(Also let's not forget that you can play any version from the launcher.)
Minecraft never "went bad" because of a single update. Most of the "bad" features and changes wouldn't be too "bad" by themselves; it's the fact that there is such an abundance of these kinds of features and changes in the past few years that degrades the game's value.
However, I still did vote in the poll– I voted for version 1.9 because it had some of the worst changes and features in my opinion, and was the start of my major dissatisfaction and displeasure with Minecraft's recent updates.
I have never stopped liking the game completely. However I generally dont play any version over 1.9 becuase of the combat. Theres still so much to do and get better at for me.
Mojang recognizes issues with Combat, and they are planning a careful overhaul to the combat system.
That said, check the following video:
This will give you "old 1.9 combat" in 1.13... WITHOUT MODS. You can test it on the Snapshot right now, if you would like. There are other data-packs for various other things, including "Bare Bones" which brings some of the Essentials features of the Spigot plugin, but again... IN VANILLA.
So if you want the "new stuff" but hate the combat changes... fix it! Check out the data-pack to make it more to your liking, and also consider giving Mojang specific feedback on how they can improve combat on their feedback page.
A huge reason to be excited about 1.13 plus is how much easier it will be for people to enjoy "mods" in the form of data-packs to tweak so many things without ever having to break out Java. So... rather than "stop liking Minecraft", we're just getting started!
I don´t think Minecraft is go bad. Mojang decide the versions, and the communty don´t like the decisions of Minecraft.
Only once I stopped playing Minecraft, between June 2015 and June 2017. It was not because of the Minecraft versions, but because of the insults that a friend made to me (user of this forum too), I never think that any version goes badly. I'll just stop playing Minecraft when there are no updates.
Personally for me it's 1.9. The combat update are very controversial and it's effect can be felt through this day. Badlion, the server which many claims to represent the competitive side of Minecraft are shutting down due to this update. And so does other like Kohi. Correct me if i'm wrong, but the competitive side of a video game is what makes a video game still aged well. The example can be seen from CS:GO, PUBG, and Dota.
I stop liking MC when these type of threads are starting popping up frequently.
What's wrong with this type of thread? This isn't saying Minecraft is dying; in fact, it's trying to prove the opposite. I love and praise this type of thread because it gives everyone the opportunity to put in their opinion on this, which is an important topic for the Minecraft community.
1.8, as it was the update that added Prismarine, starting a tendency for items that are rare and lacking in use.
Good point; I didn't think of this. Version 1.8 did bring a lot of really good features (like armor stands & uses for sponges) but it did also start this trend. It also started the trend of features that are blurring of the lines of things that are "Minecrafty" and "Not Minecrafty" such as guardians.

Agreed, but only up to the point where it becomes another "I HATE 1.9 COMBAT" thread. It's like deja vu all over again.
"Items that are rare and lacking in use." Except for perhaps building blocks that have a higher "survival cost" compared to others. I get annoyed with Grian when he builds this stuff out of his "creative pocket" intended for a Survival build without any notion of 1) I can't freakin' hover in Survival, and 2) I can't just go out and get a ton of Nether Quartz or Prismarine. Some of those pretty building blocks he's using are *expensive*, and that has to be taken into account for a "survival build."
I agree with those who say, "Don't like those blocks? Don't use 'em!"

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

I'm confused... can't servers just use plugins to fix combat how they want it, such as https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/oldcombatmechanics ? Or for people testing Snapshot, couldn't they use the data-pack to get old style combat?
https://twitter.com/docm77/status/1002131678200987650?s=20 also contains current discussion of combat with the Devs involved. It's worth a read.
At some point it would be cool if this thread were re-titled, "When Did You Stop Liking Minecraft BESIDES COMBAT CHANGES?"
