I'm getting sick of all these new updates mostly adding weird fantasy items, when I'd prefer more realistic and practical things that don't exist in the game, like more ores, more tools/weapons, real animals, (not shulkers etc, whatever the heck a shulker is), more realistic weather and biomes, terrain gen, and more plants, more immersive world, more realistic looking trees, etc. The aquatic update is the perfect opportunity for them to add sharks as a danger in the ocean, but still, the only animal danger is a guardian?! Last time I checked wikipedia, Guardians are not hostile sea creatures! Sharks have been a popular suggestion from the pbulic for a long time, along with many of the other things I've listed. Sure, I can add things with mods, but can mods also remove all the fantasy crap? Also, Shaders should be supported in Vanilla without Optifine.
Surely I'm not the only one thinking this?
Some other things I'm thinking:
More detailed caves
Decent looking villages are aren't compltely deformed most of the time.
Decent villagers that are interesting and have more functions. (and aren't deformed lol jks)
Slightly higher tech items, like water pipes, steam machinery, windmills.
Again, yes mods can add these, but the mods aren't as optimised as vanilla items. Mods aren't always made to work well together, and things get messy. Also mod makers often start to add things beyond the scope of their mod, and then we start getting more fantasy items. Sometimes I'll look for a mod to simply add some more plants, or some more ores, and sure, some nice mods will have those, but then they will also add a bunch of things that don't exist.
You dislike so many things that are already in the game and asks for stuff which are not likely to be added. Maybe you want to play another game, not Minecraft.
Minecraft is definitely envisioned as a fantasy setting. It is their game and their prerogative. They could not care less about what you are 'getting sick of'.
I personally like H.P.Lovecraft Cthulhu mythos, but I am not gonna demand they add Shoggoths, Outer Gods and Necronomicon rituals to vanilla. I simply run with Abyssalcraft mod loaded.

If you have suggestions for vanilla Minecraft, please post the appropriate threads in the Suggestions forum section. If you wish to discuss the direction Mojang developers have chosen to go with Minecraft, please limit the discussion to that topic. A thread combining a critique of the Mojang developers with a wish list of things you want to see added is not going to be allowed in this forum section.
Do the developers even read the suggestions section? I heard that they read the suggestions section on Reddit, but they hardly ever add the suggestions from there, even the most popular ones.
By the way, I do recall seeing a poll on this site recently, in which more people voted for realism content than fantasy, so I'm not unique in my preference.

i'm going to take a guess that this "poll" had about 20 or so votes...
Minecraft has ALWAYS been fantasy and will always be fantasy. If you want a realistic survival game, then there is a landslide of them on steam...
I'm getting sick of all these new updates mostly adding weird fantasy items
Ehh... Fantasy stuffs in Minecraft are actually much less than "realistic" stuff in the game. Take 1.12, Glazed Terracotta and Concrete definitely existed in real life. As well as colored beds.

Shulker - Shell Lurker. An animal that lives in a freaking alternate dimension inhabited by purple-eyed dragon, a literal blocky SCP-096 with teleportation capability. This is a game where you can make a portal to literal hell. And this statement seems very bias for a suggestion, instead of trying to back up with reasoning, you just spout the "i want dis!"
The aquatic update is the perfect opportunity for them to add sharks as a danger in the ocean, but still, the only animal danger is a guardian?!
I've already mentioned it. Shark is very generic and a bland choice for hostile underwater mobs. Also, you forgot to include Drowned, Pufferfish (they poison you) and Hostile Dolphin.
Last time I checked wikipedia, Guardians are not hostile sea creatures!
Because Guardians doesn't exist... in real life?
Sharks have been a popular suggestion from the public for a long time, along with many of the other things I've listed.
Logical Fallacy here. Just because an idea is popular doesn't mean it's true.

TerraFirmaCraft, ToughAsNails.

should?

probably.

Holy Notch. This isn't vanilla. (except for detailed cave)

but they hardly ever add the suggestions from there, even the most popular ones.
again, just because an idea is popular doesn't mean it's true. And the minecraft suggestion subreddit isn't exactly filled with worthy suggestion. I mean most voted suggestion are either 5 minutes joke content (smelt water bucket into nothing, lol!) or just lazy easter egg (renaming pumpkin to grumm will get us reverted view). Also, they do implement suggestion from the subreddit.
By the way, I do recall seeing a poll on this site recently, in which more people voted for realism content than fantasy, so I'm not unique in my preference.

In a game where you can punch trees to obtain it's wood, where zombies existed, where skeletons becomes animated and shoots bow.
This is one of the argument used by us pre-1.9 pvpers, Minecraft is not meant to be realistic. The new 1.9 combat approached the "realistic" path and resulted in many people hating it. Seems like the view of your new "Minecraft" game would only satisfy you, of course you would reply with this...
By the way, I do recall seeing a poll on this site recently, in which more people voted for realism content than fantasy, so I'm not unique in my preference.
You are still unique in your own preference even if you show that presumably hypothetical poll. why? Because the idea of a game like Minecraft being more "realistic" is already very abstract. There's a lot of way and alternatives Minecraft can be more realistic that actually opposes your view of the game.
For example, your wish is for some sort of water pipes and slightly advanced technology, but in my view of Minecraft being realistic, every item obtained in the game should be in the form of primitive technology, therefore opposing your view of the subject. And others probably just want shaders or graphical update with no gameplay change whatsoever.
If you want a more realistic Minecraft, I recommend playing the TerraFirmaCraft Mod. It makes Minecraft VERY realistic however it is rather grindy, but then again surviving in real life is a grind.

Minecraft already has enough realism as it is, and lacks very much in the fantasy department. If anything, more fantasy related things would greatly add depth and exploration to the game. Minecraft was built upon fantasy!
A rendering of a world I created using my own mod:
The same seed in 1.7+ as seen with AMIDST, covering the same area that I explored (less the extension to a stronghold to the NW):
I definitely disagree with the "let's make the game more realistic by separating biomes" nonsense that 1.7 introduced - even with the biome variety in my mod I still have yet to find two biomes that were added in the very first version, over 4 worlds over 4 years, much less new ones added since (the latest developmental version uses 106 biome IDs for the Overworld, far exceeding vanilla, even including the new biomes in 1.13 and the End and Nether. Even Biomes' O Plenty says it adds only 50 new biomes, not the 85 that my mod adds). Based on the rarity of new structure like mansions Mojang seems to want people to have to travel tens of thousands of blocks in order to find new biomes or structures - I've never traveled much more than 3000 from spawn, and usually not even half that, in any world, even one with more than 3,400 hours of playtime over 5 years (I spent close to 5 months, including 4 months of doing nothing but caving, in the world shown above).
Somethings that seem normal are actually impossible IRL,like crafting a diamond pickaxe, just think how a normal human would bond all the diamonds into one solid piece with his bare HANDS!
Simply put,any game will be boring if everything was realistic.everything would be just normal.
You're talking about a Voxel-based sandbox survival with Rpg-inspired themes, what did you expect from it? That's like ranting the Final Fantasy series is bad because because it doesn't make any sense.
I don't care whether it's realistic or fantasy, as long as it makes the game more fun. Shulkers add challenge to the new End Cities, Glazed Terracotta are nice decorative blocks. And Mincraft has had a nice mix of both ever since the beginning. The most popular thing in the game, the Creeper, is fantastical. You don't really need to get worked up over fantasy vs realism.
So let me get this straight, You want Minecraft, a game where everything is made of squares; where some random guy can turn ores into ingots without a cast, fuse diamonds together into any tool he pleases, And open a Portal to literal hell; And has a world populated with Zombies, Skeleton archers, slendermen, And exploding plant creatures to be more "realistic" I don't think I understand your logic here.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
