I'm genuinely confused that so many people don't understand the joke behind these textures. I mean, just look at them.
So many people are.....mad? Are you joking? Do you not remember what day it is? (Well, today's also Easter, so if you didn't at first, then that's fine. But.....STILL.)
People are either thinking that it's a bug, or taking it seriously like these are the new official textures for Minecraft. And the few people who understand that it's April Fools Day are still angry, because "I can't play Minecraft today. The textures are awful." THE WHOLE JOKE IS THAT THE TEXTURES ARE AWFUL. (Tho some of them actually look cool lol). Meanwhile, the first thing I thought when I saw these textures was "Where can I download this so that I can fool around with these after April Fools Day? lol"
Honestly, I think this is gonna make Mojang not want to do an April Fools update next year, just like how there wasn't one in 2017, and that's just sad.
I don't understand it either. I mean, sure. I don't like them, but I'm not going to act like it's the end of the world because Minecraft's textures have been drasically downgraded for 24 hours, most of which I'm not even on the computer, let alone playing Minecraft.
I think some people might have justification of their initial anger with this joke, since for quite a few people commenting here and on the Minecraft subreddit, they were suddenly faced with what appeared to be a graphics issue with Minecraft, and reinstalling the game, updating drivers, etc. didn't fix the issue, nor did the game divulge that the issue was a joke.
There also doesn't appear to be anything in the Mojang support twitter feed nor the Minecraft support site indicating that there is a joke in progress, so anyone heading out there to get answers would likely not find anything.
Once the graphics are back to normal, I suspect most people will just calm down and go back to playing the game as normal.
Also note that some of us don't get to play everyday. I get a chance to play for the first time in a week -- only to log on and find the game unplayable. Yes, I figured out pretty soon it was a April Fool's joke. but it still takes a day away from my limited time to play. I wish there was a way to "opt" out of jokes you don't want to be part of.

This "joke" wouldn't have much backlash if Mojang gave us the option to disable it. It's 3am here and I'm still having to deal with the joke. April Fools Day has been and gone. But rather than it reverting back for you based on your timezone, you have to wait for Mojang to release another update.

Oh well I took advantage of it to go AFK in game all day and grow a tone of pure AE crystals.

That being said I didn't think it was really that funny.
People wasted many hours of their sunday, and in many cases got migraines, from this extraordinarily unfunny 'joke'. What kind of sociopath doesn't understand that?
BTW, even WITH a texture pack, the migraine-inducing 'concentric light circle' effect still existed.
Stop making this about your feelings. I am perfectly calm. It appears that resource packs with their own light effects were not affected by the 'patch'.
About my feelings? There's nothing "about my feelings" It's about you clearly not being "perfectly" calm, when you rant around forums about this (poorly executed) april fools prank flaming everyone, who just happens to have different opinion about it. Calling everyone, who don't mind the joke turd is not being calm. It's actually opposite of being calm.
I had planned to play Minecraft on my rainy Sunday, and instead spent an hour troubleshooting and reinstalling things. I do IT for a living; wasting my day off troubleshooting a game I've paid for several times was not appreciated or funny.
Do you not consider the following comments insults?

Do I consider these people jerks? Absolutely. Every bit as much as the 'lern2play' jerks or the 'carebear server' jerks. There was a legitimate problem that people were having, particularly with the 'tunnel vision' tweak. These comments were all made prior to my even showing up in the thread. Apparently Minecraft was not the only thing having a problem with tunnel vision.
It's over now, but Mojang would do well to apologize for their mistake. And frankly, while we are technically still on topic, I am tired of dealing with your hurt feels for my 'insensitivity'.

Except it didn't exist on Conquest resource pack, that I use.
That being said, yes, it should of been executed better, than how it was executed. Mojang did mess up with that, but it's just a game. Calm down.

I didn't realize this was a forced issue, I use the John Smith Texture pack and it worked fine.

Some of the april fool's updates were amusing... It's just THIS particular one that was horrendously bad. Like Kendall Jenner's Pepsi Ad.
For my part, there are things that impress me, others that do not, but I would also do a post like that.
