Uh, didn't I say that there would be another way to find the biome besides luck? Also, people have been saying you don't need a whole new biome for the entrance, but I don't see the issue with it. It makes the entrance unique in that the dimension has almost come into the Overworld itself.
The game could use a mountain biome, and I think as the entrance to a new dimension would be a cool and very unique way to implement one. That being said, I'd suggest the biome be not that rare, perhaps as rare as a jungle (so it is still rare, but not OMG rare).
The second thing about the portal is that it should be moveable. I don't know about you, but I rarely go to the End just because its such a hassle to travel there. You have to travel across the world and deep into a dungeon every time you go to the End, but you can make a portal right inside your base for the Nether. So I would suggest once you get the portal from the giant, you can pick it up and bring it back to your base.

I don't know about that.
If the biome were as common as the jungle, it would have to not always have the portal, which is unfavorable, as it would be frustrating and unclear to the player that there isn't a portal cave there.
If the portal is moveable, you should have to build some sort of structure for it, like the Nether portal (but of course different). I see your point, but I think it would provide an interesting dynamic if you had to travel to get to the portal. Players might build railways, or map out the ocean and get there by boat.

Why Jungle? Jungle is rare, but its rarity is simply ludicrous. I'd say it could use to be a bit more common than those. If the portal is moveable, perhaps its blocks are constructed from materials in said biome?

I probably have no idea how rare the jungle biome is, as I play on a different version than Java Edtion (though I'm moving back to the Java Edition), so whatever rarity feels best for you guys will get my approval.
I absolutely love the idea of having the blocks for the player-built version of the portal coming from the biome- and I would love it even more if they came from the dimension. That way you would have to go in the dimension before bringing its portal to your base.

Having it come from the dimension might be a little confusing, because then we would have two portals. I would rather each of the semi-rare mountain biomes have 1-3 "giant rooms" that are at the bottom of the caves. Maybe after you kill the giant, it would drop an item that could be used to light the portal? Or maybe instead of a portal the dimension can be accessed via left-clicking the item?
I think the giant dropping an item to light a portal made out of blocks from the dimension would be good. So you still have to go through the giant's back initially, but you can still bring a portal home

At least in my experience, Jungles post-1.7 have been atrociously rare, often having to go many thousands of blocks depending on the biomes around you. Speaking of which...
It just occurred to me that this is going to be a pain for those who already have existing worlds. Perhaps have the material be alternatively made from End blocks as part of the recipe?
I get that most seem decided on this Frost Dimension (working name), but I would have suggested a "Twilight Realm".
Thematically the influence is on it neither being light nor dark. It's neither day nor night, nether nor aether. It's dusky lighting. And mobs are morally grey/gray (somewhat like Zombie PIgmen) in that their behaviour depends on how the player treats them. Example, does the Elf steal your boots when you use a bed or repair your boots for you?
Possible Mobs:
Fae (they have wings, which one might get as a drop, but could be bestowed as a gift, butt hey have different properties when used in crafting and attacking one fae will mean the rest attack. Maybe the Endermen got the wings to craft their elytra, unless those are made of dragon wings?)
Elves (the little ones, not like LotR)
(purple or variously corlorful) Unicorns (can be used as mounts, if one is nice and feeds them)
Vampires (just because. LOL. But, seriously, if you feed one with something, then they'll bring you back from possible death or something.)
Will-o-the-wisp (a floaty animal-like thing, but you follow it.)
Possible new light sources:
Will-o-the-wisp or a drop from them
"faerie fire" which burns blue and doesn't 'burn' in the same way
A liquid that glows slightly
Possible new block types:
pink leaves
orange leaves
A wood with cooler-toned planks or maybe pinkish?
obtainable mushroom blocks
(not a block exactly) a liquid that is neither water nor lava, maybe like 'dry' water that you can breathe in, or use as an ingredient. Maybe it glows faintly, but not as brightly as water??
A stone 'wall' that is used in creating stalgmites/stalagtites but is not cobblestone, can alternately be used to make columns or 'fences'.
carved wood (like a certain number of planks arranged on the crafting table produced a quantity of carved planks.
possible items:
a magic wand
unicorn hair ('drop' if unicorn not killed, used in crafting a wand? or alternative to spider string?)
unicorn blood or horn (drop if unircon killed, ingredients in a potion?)
glass slippers (crafted from glass, for feet slot, buffs or alters movement in some way)
tiara/crown (craftable item for head slot, like a glass/crystal helmet)
sparkles (something that drops from a vampire? maybe)
Faerie wings
wooden chestplate (wooden armor)
clogs (wooden shoes)
crystal balls (like ender pearls, but instead of teleporting you to a black, it teleports block/item to you? IDK, maybe you juggle them like Jareth.)
"Boss":
A faerie gentleman or lady that when summoned in overworld restores area of effect to original generation, wiping out player alteratioons and artificial structures.

I spawned right in front of a jungle biome the other day, no world generation changes.
Hhmm... I don't think we need to add an out of place portal alternative just so those on existing worlds don't have to venture into the unknown chunks. Maybe the mountain biome is guaranteed to spawn in existing worlds that have just made the update jump? Don't know if that's possible, but it is the simplest solution.
I get that most seem decided on this Frost Dimension (working name), but I would have suggested a "Twilight Realm".
I think its best for this project as a whole not to go back to deciding on a dimension theme. If we make another poll it will just continue the looping cycle. That being said, some of the ideas from here are interesting, such as a "neutral" dimension. Perhaps this could be the basis of the frost dimension mobs moving forward. A runic theme has also been suggested, and the fairies tie nicely into that

I'm not sure fairies tie into the kind of runic stuff we were talking about. I know at least I was talking about stone cities and obelisks with giant glowing runes etched into them, and sort of Thaumcraft-esque machinations. A more technological approach.

I still like the idea of having the portal staying where it is. Like I mentioned above, it would encourage the building of railways, boat systems, and other methods of transportation. This kind of thing motivates the player to build, and it gives the building use. If it were up to me there would be no way to get to the dimension other than the biome. You said you don't go to the End much due to its portal being far away from your base, but this new dimension (the Frist ,as you called it) would preferably have enough features to be enticing enough for it to be worth it to you (and other players) to go the distance required or build a base in the biome in order to get to the dimension.
Overfrost sounds too much like the overworked IMO. If you ask me, the dimension shouldn't sound anything like the other three. It should probably have a unique first letter.

After some thought, I realized Mojang isn't very creative with their dimension names:
-Overworld: The top of our world, synonym to our world
-Nether: Means deep, which applies to the underworld / hell
-End: When Mojang creates a unique dimension without a set theme and can't come up with a name
So I think instead of just creating new words, we should use obscure synonyms (ex: rime) or a reference to something famous (but not pop culture) involving frost.

I think the Nether is a pretty unique name, given that the word hasn't been used for a while (other than in "Netherlands"). Just look at the google search data from 2004 to 2017 over the word "nether":
Though the word "nether" isn't a combination of words, I think it is still a good choice of name. The Overworld and End, however, are pretty cheap/simple names. Point is, we should come up with a name that is original, but we shouldn't spend a whole century trying to find two words we can merge to create the most creative name possible.
Also, we should come up with the name while we work on other parts of the dimension concept. We shouldn't wait on a good name to start designing.
Frore? It means frozen or frosty. There's also Algid, which means cold or chilly. Could even combine the two for Alrore, Frorid, Fralgid, Algire, etc.
EDIT: A quick google search shows both have been used much less than Nether, so much so that Algid doesn't even have it's own definition page embedded in Google's search engine.
