Eh, copypasting from Norse myth feels out of place. I really thought we had something with the cold, space-ish, floating, runic steampunk-ish stuff. Feels more unique too.

Runic and Norse are pretty similar. Just because we take some ideas form Norse mythology doesn't mean we can't use the other themes too.
Edit: Just realized; have we really decided on one dimension concept? Or have we just put all the options in the poll together in a melting pot?
Going off of Wolftopia's entrance idea, I think we should make there be some kind of broken, runic stargate-looking thing in an ice biome that you need to repair, and once repaired it forms the portal. To repair the portal you simply look at the other areas of the portal and fill in some gaps with blocks you make, using common sense. So if one side of the portal has a block and the other doesn't, you make and place that block there. If it's a new block, the recipe book could update to tell you how the blocks are made once you are within a certain distance of the portal.
Very interesting. I think we should take design ideas from all sorts of things, as it would give the dimension a unique feel. For example, we could implement a therapod-style mob (yes, I really want that dinosaur) in, but other things don't have to be too related. As long as everything fits one overall theme, we can make the different features as unique as we want.
ok, if we have giants, what if we had Yutyrannus (feathered T-rexes that lived in artic regions) that spawned in the wild, but giants could keep packs of them as battle mounts?
Regarding the giant/rainbow thing, I think we should definitely come up with a unique entrance to the dimension. If we are to use this method or a similar one, I think the giant should be found in very tall ice mountains. This would make for an adventurous setting of the dimension entrance. What would the giant look like, though? Obviously it shouldn't look like the normal giant, as it is just an enlarged zombie. Another possible entrance to the dimension could involve running down a frozen cave system (found in some frost-style biome) to a gateway of some sort. If we wanted to incorporate some space elements into the entrance of the dimension we could do that as well. How, I'm not sure, but this could definitely be interesting. I do definitely think that we should keep this dimension outside of the normal progression system, though, as having it come straight after the Nether of straight after the End would be boring and feel sort of forced. As mentioned before, an "optional" kind of dimension would add to the sandbox feel of the game, too.
for the giants appearance, I was thinking a humanoid around 5-10 blocks tall with a pale blue skin, light cyan eyes, and beards made of ice. we could have the giant spawn at the end, and in some ways, you're shooting the rainbow into space to get to the dimension
I have an interesting concept to bring to the potential dungeons of this dimension. We've discussed making them steampunk-themed, and I'm all on board with that. What if we had the dangers in the dungeon be a mixture of mobs and traps? It would make it both unique and more interesting than other dungeons that are already in the game. For example, there could be some sort of evil mechanic that causes dispensers (or other machines) to fire projectiles at you.
yeah, if i'm being honest, i'm not sure entirely how steampunk fits into a frost dimension, but we can figure that out
One last thing: When making the dungeons, we should consider how we're going to make them "evil." I think there should be some sort of indication that the things in the dungeon are the bad guys, and not the player, as otherwise it's basically just the player intruding on their building, which is pretty mean of Steve to do.
not sure, maybe just make it really intimidating looking
also, forgot to mention it, but I had an idea for a mechanic for the dimension, what if there where constantly strong winds in the dimension, these winds will change direction periodically and effect certain things, most notably the elytra, which will have there efficiency improved if you fly in the same direction the wind's blowing and lose efficiency if you glide against the wind, other things that would be effected are arrows, projectiles, and perhaps other things we think of

What I had pictured in my mind was a Yutyrannus inspired creature. It wouldn't be named Yutyrannus, of course, but it would be heavily based on it. In my previous posts (see the previous pages) I have provided pictures of them. Also, the Yutyrannus wasn't a kind of Tyrannosaurus rex, but rather a species that falls under the superfamily Tyrannosauroidea, which the Tyrannosaurus rex (T-rex) also fell under. Sorry, I'm a nerd.

Perhaps. Though, what would it be activated with? What block would it be made out of?
Or have we just put all the options in the poll together in a melting pot?
My 2 cents here, I think it'd be healthier for the suggestion as a whole to keep it as a melting pot. By setting it to one singular theme and just that, that's putting a nasty lid over potential and creativity.
The poll has been removed. The frost dimension won by a landslide.
Now we have focus on the fun part- blocks, items, mobs, and structures in the dimension. We should also decide on a way to get to the dimension and a name.
If we are going to draw inspiration from Norse Mythology, perhaps a treasure from one of the dungeons or minibosses is a mythical hammer that has some special ability. Like how the elytra is a treasure that's a "chestplate" with a special ability.
Frozen past, Frost past , and i really agree with bifrost too. i think the poll about the name should be the last poll, because we are not even sure about what's going to be this dimension about
I think we should start planning things out in the order that the player would find things. So, let's start with the entrance.
My personal idea:
There would be a new mountainous biome, and it would look like the picture below, but with even higher mountains.
This place would be extremely rare. Thus, there would be two ways of getting to it: 1. Exploring and extraordinary amount, and 2. Using some new compass or other thing that could lead you to the place.
The closer you get to the center of this biome, the shorter the mountains get. This means that the terrain would become more maneuverable the farther you go in. There would be several openings to a cave system, which would be one connected system. The generation of this cave system wouldn't be as sporadic and misleading as the current one; you would end up at the entrance if you just kept on moving for long enough. These caves would have ice leaking from the ceiling, as well as some basic traps (nothing new, just dispensers and such) to add challenge. The normal hostile mob spawning system wouldn't apply to this biome and cave. There would be fewer creepers and more skeletons. There would be no zombies, but a new zombie-esque mob that could be called the frostbitten. It would resemble a light blue, frozen zombie, and it would be slightly faster and of more health than the regular zombie. Once you finally make it to the entrance room, there would be a portal. I'm not sure what it would look like, yet, but it should definitely be different than the Nether and End ones.
I like the mountain idea, but the reason I suggested the bossfight/rainbow bridge method was so that the entrance method was unique, yours sounds to much like getting to the end IMO

Maybe as a combination, the giant could live in a large chasm at the bottom of the caves? That way you would still get the adventure through the mountain ice caves and the giant boss fight.
If we are going to add a zombie variant for the area around the "portal", maybe the frostbitten should also inhabit the dimension. If we had a day-night schedule, or something similar but unique, they could only spawn in the night.
I think the idea is interesting enough, but perhaps something different from a zombie or skeleton. We already have enough undead variants, and not enough spider and creeper ones.

Okay. What if it were a mix of a creeper and zombie or a mix of a spider and zombie? I like the idea of having it sort of humanoid. Or maybe we could just have it as a new variant of a spider. I want it to be similar to the Overworld in some way, though, since you are still in the Overworld.

That could be neat. I don't think it should be too extravagant of a boss fight though. What if when you defeat it it bends over and turns to stone, with a portal in its back? That could be cool as well.
I'm not sure if it's really necessary to add an entire biome into the overworld for just entering the dimension, but I would like to see a biome that that, so I'll support it. As for enemies, I think angry wolves and strays could work. We should save new mobs for the dimension itself.
Yeah, I don't think a biome as an entrance is a good idea.
Think of the current dimensions. The Nether requires obsidian, which requires lava and water, both of which can be found everywhere. The End is definitely dependent on luck to find on your own, but there is a way to track them via Eyes of Ender (there is some luck required to make them, as finding Endermen and Blazes can be a bit difficult, but in most worlds both are easy to find). A biome would be incredibly luck-based, especially with current biome generation algorithms involving temperature, and would be incredibly frustrating to find (imagine if finding a woodland mansion was required to get to the End, and there were no cartographers). Not to mention that a new biome would change the world generator, resulting in a visible seam between old chunks and new.

I mean, we could just have a way to find the dungeon and therefore the biome, like a cartographer Map
Also, just mentioning it now, having the boss turn to stone with a portal in it's back would make sense, as in Norse mythology Midgaurd(earth) was created by Thor and Odin(?) From the flesh of Ymir, the largest of the frost giants

i've got the boss of the frost dimension got it from thor's movie
We can't just rip a thing out of a movie and make it the boss.
while i'm not apposed to a marvel reference, Taking a beast straight out of Thor and making it a boss is a bit on the nose
