I'm trying to quantify prices of blocks by comparing how often they appear in a chunk compared to Ore. The average number of times ore appears in a chunk is known and available on MC wiki sites. However the only value I can find for stone is very dated and in a range of around 10,800 - 15,000 from the 2011 version of MC and with so many changes, this may have changed (a few times).
Does anyone know the current average number of times stone appears in a chunk? This would include all variations combined; smooth stone, Diorite, Andesite, and Granite.
I would open a world in MC Edit, select 30 or so chunks, and use the Analyze button. Excluding extreme hills due to their increased height I would guess something like 60x16x16 =15,360 and then say 75% so 11,520 for a slightly educated guess.

I analyzed a 1.12 world I had laying around with the following results from 3995 chunks of mixed terrain (mostly "hot" biomes); I included regular stone, stone variants (averaged out, they are all about the same), ores, and obsidian/dirt/gravel:
13522 stone (11608 smooth + average of 638 each of granite/diorite/andesite)
563 dirt
210 gravel
176 coal
102 iron
85.7 lava+obsidian
27.7 redstone
9.7 gold
4 lapis
3.46 diamond
Note that all the ores are more common than the Wiki says (e.g. 102 vs 77 for iron, making it 32% more common) due to changes since they made their analysis, including fewer caves, less dirt and gravel, and slightly bigger veins. Lava and obsidian are grouped together since lava can be turned into obsidian.
For comparison, here are the results from 3741 chunks of a 1.6.4 world using the same seed and close to the same area covered:
13310 stone
1397 dirt
427 gravel
161 coal
86.1 iron
103 lava+obsidian
25.1 redstone
8.2 gold
3.45 lapis
3.11 diamond
Interestingly, coal and iron are also more common than given by the Wiki, probably because they included oceans, but I'd be more concerned with what is under land. Unlike the 1.12 seed there were also Extreme Hills, although an accurate number for emerald requires a much larger area to be covered (I found 0.47 per chunk, while the Wiki says 0.2; each Extreme Hills chunk has an average of 5.5 attempts, whose success rate depends on the percentage of stone remaining after accounting for caves and other ores. I'm betting that there is much more than 0.2 emerald ore per chunk in 1.7+ worlds due to the much smaller oceans and frequency of EH in warm/cool climate zones. Of course, only the ore itself should count, not emeralds, since you can just trade for them, same for easily farmed iron and gold).
