I normally play Modded Minecraft on 1.7.10 and I remember being able to see the light levels by pressing a certain function key (if I needed light somewhere it would show a yellow or red X) but now I m playing vanilla Minecraft on 1.11.2 and I ve tried every function key and none of them work. Is it a mod that is in most packs or am I missing something?

If you open the debug menu using F3, somewhere in there it says the light level from 0-15 of the block you are standing on (or where your head is, I don't remember)
What you used in the past was a feature of a mod called Not Enough Items. Similar functionality exists in mods for 1.10 called Light Level Overlay Reloaded (this is the one that puts red and green numbers on the tops of every block) and I believe Just Enough Items (does the red and yellow X's).

Okay, I guess that's what I'll have to use. Thank you.
