I'm running a small Minecraft LAN party and trying to find out how to make the server auto spawn into the nether and skip the over world. We're running a PVP contest in the nether and want to spawn players directly there.
Your best bet is to setup the overworld spawn point so that as soon as a player spawns there they get sent to the Nether. I'm not sure if it is possible via commands to teleport a player to another dimension. If not, then what about placing portal blocks throughout the entire spawn area and surrounding it with an obsidian wall or something?
Well I haven't tried this personally, but it might be possible with the /setworldspawn command. I highly doubt it though, you would probably be better off just making the Nether the overworld.

To my knowledge you can't do this on a LAN world

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
