Hello! I'm trying to make a slime grinder with a mob spawner in a server I play on.
Once I saw a guy who made his a wide, dark room with flowing water. The spawners were in the back of the room, and the grinder was on the surface. I don't think this was in a slime chunk, but there's a possibility I'm wrong.
So I've made a creative world testing how to make this and other grinders, and while making the slime one, I realized that it won't work.
I've tried the correct height, light/no light, slime chunk/random chunk, standing at different distances, water/no water, etc., and I still can't get the spawner to spawn any slimes! (Yes, it's on normal, by the way.)
I saw that the server had mentioned that slime spawners/eggs don't work, but I thought that was a server thing. Is this a glitch in all of Minecraftia, or am I doing something wrong?
Chunks include everything from y=1 to y=255, even if there's nothing there worth paying attention to. Slimes only spawn in slime chunks, between y=1 and y=39 inclusive, and in swamp biomes, between y=50 and y=70 (this is the Y range for the swamp generation, not sure if slimes are also limited to this range the way witch-hut witches are).
If you place one in a slime chunk, you have to place it at or below y=38 for best results (remember, the spawning area of a cage includes 1 block above the cage)

First off, I doubt the guy I mentioned had his in a slime chunk, AND it was on the surface.
In my case, I'm practicing in the Void preset (Which hasn't messed up the spawns of other mobs). I found a slime chunk, and I built the spawner at y=29.
I had pressed F3+G to see chunk borders and a slime chunk finder website to make sure I was in the right chunk.
I'm guessing that slime chunk locations vary between Minecraft versions. Maybe the tool you used was for the wrong version? Anyway, try Amidst and make sure it's for the correct version.

Slime chunk calculations haven't changed since about 1.7, and the slime finder site I used said it was for 1.8. (It's also worked reliably in the past.)
Also, I don't want to update Java for reasons, and Amidst wants me to, so no Amidst for me.
I thought that spawners overrode things like slime chunks and stuff...

The biome doesn't matter, but some other rules still apply. For example, pigs will only spawn on grass blocks. For your slimes, I'd guess you need to be below y=40, there has to be an opaque block with 2 blocks of vertical space, and clear of liquids. I don't know if the slime chunks matter. See http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Slime#Spawning
In a Mesa biome at Y=25, I had to be in a slime chunk for the spawner to work. Lighting level didn't matter. At Y=56, the spawner did NOT work, even in the slime chunk.
In a Swamp biome at Y=64, the spawner worked in a non-slime chunk, but it had to be nighttime and the light level did affect it.
So this matches up with the wiki (emphasis added): "Slimes spawn in the Overworld in specific chunks below layer 40 regardless of light levels. They can also spawn in swamp biomes between layers 50 and 70 in light levels of 7 or less."
I just tried out what you said in a normal world, and it works. Guess it didn't like the Void preset.
Not really what I wanted to hear, but it'll have to work. Thanks so much!

(Sorry if I sound angry. I'm just frustrated.)
