I've made a good number of mods myself, but have not updated most of them because I do not have the incentive to put the time and effort into updating them to a version that I'll never play on anyway (I've only updated a very simple cave mod to 1.9.2); I still play on 1.6.4 and probably won't play any newer version and have even made new mods for that version long after it was considered to be dead by other modders; likewise, I've posted seeds for it as well even though the majority of players wouldn't be interested in them.
Given how much content mods can add there isn't really much difference between playing 1.6 or even a much older version and 1.9; want dual-wielding, armor stands, new mobs, new combat, a better End, and so on? Plenty of mods add all of those and much more (plus you can selectively add/remove mods; command blocks can do some of this but are not as efficient for complex changes or Survival-friendly); one of my own mods adds a lot of features from 1.7+ to 1.6.4, a few before they were added in a release.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
Even for 1.8.9 (maximum 1.8.8) no MCP, or I mistake?
And for 1.9 have only beta. And there is no for 1.9.2.
Only a small handful of mods are up to 1.9.2. it might be easier if minecraft had its own mod loader build into the game.
forge does not help to make high dpi support... Need natural, through MCP
i have a custom mcp modified thing that allows me to use 1.8.8 mappings on a 1.8.9 thing, so MCP maximum for 1.8 is 1.8.9.
Give me this MCP.
Why I can't include new lang file in MCP?
