Hey guys, so I was thinking, what's the difference between 1.8 and 1.7, I just know 1.8 has some extra blocks, and 1.7 is for pvp, you can block hit, and what else?
The biggest difference (IMO) between the two is mods, the 1.8 update made modding much more difficult and time consuming as well as making animated and dynamic textures in mods virtually impossible. These changes results in smaller and less detailed mods for 1.8, 1.7.10 is still a better choice for modding.

Why would they do this? It seems completely counter-intuitive to me.
I just assumed there was fewer mods because 1.8 was written completely differently and would require a complete rewrite of the mods. I didn't know it made certain features much harder to code. That's moronic of mojang to do.

I personally feel this may have been a discussion made for Mojang by Microsoft who have always had "issues" with people modifying their software. Forbidding modding Minecraft (which has welcomed modding for years) would likely cause a boycott, however this way they can gently dissuade modding under the pretense of improving the game.

The issue with modding is due to changes in how block models work to make resource packs more powerful, and thus makes things like pipes require thousands of different models, making it hard to make mods which feature them.
Issues with the models have been fixed in 1.9, though. However, it seems to me that modders have always favored specific versions. I doubt it has anything to do with stopping modifications.

Yeah, I think this might also have something to do with it. There have been a few notable versions that seemed to have large spikes in mod activity. 1.2.5, 1.4.7, 1.6.4, and 1.7.10

I want to know is, how 1.7 is better for pvp...also what does quickdropping another player mean
1.7 is better for pvp because you can block and hit at the same time (right click with the sword and attack). This feature was removed in 1.8
about quickdropping... I don't know.
