1.4.1 of Beta. I remember the days before horses, villages, the Wither, brewing, the current cobblestone texture, LAN, command blocks, resource packs, the End, and modern Creative mode, among other things.
...
Not so good times. I much prefer the game as it is now.
Bet you weren't expecting that reaction to my trip down memory lane...

Insulting people for their beliefs is not a good way of convincing them to adopt yours.
Fiction is just a game of make-believe recorded on paper or film. But that's what makes it so great.
Beta 1.6 or 1.7 I think. It has been too long for me to remember.

Release 1.8, but I wish I started earlier. I was a FPS/RPG head all during those alpha beta years and I didn't think I would like MC because "bad graphics, no objectives!". Silly younger me.
I don't remember exactly, but I think it was somewhere after the official release. I remember watching Paul on Youtube, and seeing all the cool builds, and old school Yogscast. It was great. I miss the feel of old Minecraft, but this version is way better tbh.
1.4.7. I remember being so happy that they added quartz, because sandstone wasn't white enough for my builds to be perfect.
Iron blocks existed before 1.4.7, heck its one of the first ore blocks in the game, added even in indev? i think, anyway, they were added around 2010 when the game was in indev, definetly remember them being in Infdev! anyway, my point is, iron blocks look almost exactly the same as Quartz blocks, with the exception of them not being able to craft stairs, and slabs. However of course, iron blocks are much more expensive than quartz! quartz was actually added mainly for comparators in the 1.5 update (redstone update)
I remember being disappointed that I got in juuuuust after a price increase. It was sometimes in beta, but it's hard to remember exactly what update.
I remember a friend accidentally starting a fire on a server and burning down every single flammable thing on the server because this was a time before the nerf to fire and it would just spread and spread and spread...

Beta 1.8, around 2011 or so. That's really when Minecraft started to gain momentum on YouTube and like EVERY gaming channel started to do Minecraft let's plays.
what version of Minecraft was it when you first started playing (PC versions of minecraft)

"You can't have everything, where would you put it?"
Classic/Survivaltest classic I started a week prior to them adding zombies and etc
I also started in that version.
Alpha 1.1.2_01
Right around there is when I bought the game after playing classic, and watching a friend play. Got a good use out of the $13 I spent.
