Also, I made a thread complaining about how the Minecraft Forums and Mojang are allowing these huge pay2win servers to stay on here, and yet, they give me a reply stating that they aren't going to enforce it in the server list. Then the thread got locked, preventing me from giving any counter statements. This just proves that the Minecraft Forums and Mojang don't care about these pay2win servers as long as they receive some sort of profit from these servers.
I wouldn't be so quick to condemn them. There may be another reason they are allowing these servers are allowed here. In addition, I've seen servers flagged for some incredibly stupid reasons, or reasons that aren't actually in the EULA.
(If Puyo or Citric could clear this up, that'd be great. )
TheMinecraftNerd had blown this out of context. I looked at his thread, and Citric said "this policy is being reviewed" in referring to EULA-breaking servers. I'm assuming that this policy does more harm than good or Curse is stepping out of line somewhere with the policy.

To me it just seems like they don't care at this point. They're getting money, so why not let those servers stay. That's what I got from that reply.

Citric said, and I quote
"The forum doesn't permit EULA violations and has been strictly enforced, repeat offenders certainly haven't been given a free pass as we have removed numerous servers from the forum. That said, we're reviewing this policy and at the moment we are not enforcing it on the server list (and I don't expect we will), it's probable that we won't enforce it on the forum any more."
They have taken down servers, but for some reason (probably a legal one) they can't do it anymore.
Just because Curse is a corporation, doesn't mean it's evil and corrupt.
Edit: I just realized, if Curse really didn't want people giving them a hard time about EULA servers, wouldn't they lock this thread? It's been up for a bit, so clearly they're fine with this.

That is right. I'm now wondering the same thing, hopefully this won't get locked. Maybe a some point if we (I say we, pretty much just me.) get a lot support, Mojang/Microsoft might realize and do something about it.
Pfft really? Factions?? XD. NO, I just have a lot of money to spend.
Which is why p2w is unethical. What if someone doesn't have gobs of money? They're at a disadvantage because of their financial situation. p2w makes it so rich people can win a game/match all too easily, which is what EULA breaking servers are doing.

You know, I actually agree with you. No 100% but mostly. It's likewith fortcraft (Towny server) A kid was violating the rules. Yeah he was like 9 and should have been monitored but still. So he tried to appeal on forums, staff just said "Oh you have to pay us 5000$ to fix this issue -.- Now this barely has anything to do with p2w but the server is and it's relating to p2w. Just stupid.
To me it just seems like they don't care at this point. They're getting money, so why not let those servers stay. That's what I got from that reply.
Yeah, I completely agree with you. It just seems like Mojang and Minecraft Forums are doing nothing about the issue because these pay2win servers are bribing them.

I've said it once, so I'll say it again. Citric has not given us the full context of Minecraft Forum not cracking down on servers. It could be perhaps that there is a legal issue with it. Or perhaps they are doing it for money, but Curse doesn't seem like that kind of company. To quote Citric "The forum doesn't permit EULA violations and has been strictly enforced, repeat offenders certainly haven't been given a free pass as we have removed numerous servers from the forum. That said, we're reviewing this policy and at the moment we are not enforcing it on the server list (and I don't expect we will), it's probable that we won't enforce it on the forum any more."
In other words, they have shut down servers, but for whatever reason, aren't doing so. Circumstantial evidence says it's likely that some lawyer is giving them hell for doing it, or they violated some rule about it.

I can't speak for Mojang/Microsoft though.
Well, how can there be a legal issue with banning a couple of big servers that are violating the EULA of the game? If those big pay2win servers have lawyers going after the forums, then maybe the lawyers need to get their heads out of their butts and see who the REAL offenders are in the situation. It is basically like a company banning a customer for breaking its rules on several occasions, and the customer deciding to file a class-action lawsuit against the company when the company did nothing wrong.
I honestly don't understand the big problem everyone is having here. Of course there are going to be scammy servers that are in it just to milk kids money, it should be your job to avoid them or, at best not buy what they're selling. Play on another server, there's hundreds that don't have ridiculous prices.
I don't mind that servers charge money for access to parts of the server or in game items. I really don't. There needs to be a way for said servers to make money. Without servers, Minecraft would be nothing of what it is today, without money, there would be no servers, that's the simple truth.
That being said, I was on a server the other day that charged something like $200 for one of it's "Lord" memberships which is just flippin ridiculous. I played on the server without paying and without ever intending to pay because that is ridiculous. If something like that is up for sale, don't buy it. If you think the server is unfair, don't play on it. Again, there are dozens and dozens of servers that aren't ridiculous/run by kids.
If someone really wants to donate $200, they can get the max membership and then donate what that doesn't cover.
TL;DR: If a server is charging ridiculous prices, don't play on it.

I used lawyers as a possibility. I have no idea what's going on. But I'm fairly certain, through past activity, that Curse would never willingly let such servers post here.

Or should we ignore them?

Without servers, Minecraft would be nothing of what it is today, without money, there would be no servers, that's the simple truth. Servers usually rely on personal funds. The big networks have money for advertising, but that's because they got lucky. And as I've explained, p2w is unethical.

Just because a bad thing exists, doesn't mean we should ignore it.
So ignore corruption is what you are saying. I wonder, if some mods on MCF were abusing power, would you call them out? Or should we ignore them?
If there was only one MC server and that one MC server was charging ridiculous prices, then yes I would say to "not ignore the corruption", seeing as how there are literally thousands of MC servers though, you are free to leave and join another. Make them stop being corrupted by leaving. You can report them all you want, what they're doing is scummy. I don't care though, if people overwhelmingly hated it, they would all leave and the servers wouldn't charge that much. This is like any company, if they charge too high, people leave.
Servers usually rely on personal funds. The big networks have money for advertising, but that's because they got lucky. And as I've explained, p2w is unethical.
Most servers do rely on personal funds. I maintain mine on personal funds, however I wouldn't be able to constantly maintain it myself at all hours of the day without donations. You need capital to run anything. It would be best if this capital didn't come from personal investments because at the end of the day, you'll run out sometime. Essentially, servers that make money, tend to be of higher quality because they can afford to maintain it. I know there are crappy servers that aren't high quality that are in it just to make money, in the case of those, people should simply stop playing on them. Why would you go to a overpriced, run down grocery store? You wouldn't, you would go where it is better. P2w is trash. However, it seems people don't mind because, curse the guy who bought $50 sword all you want, at the end of the day, you're still on the server perpetuating p2w.
All I'm saying is, servers should be able to make a return on their investment somehow. I know MC isn't a business. It can't be just a hobby though. It takes money to make things happen. Report trashy, P2W servers all you want. The real change will only come when people start leaving and start playing on servers that aren't about that.

Just reported a server: PrimeMC! I'm sick and tired of this nonsense. I get that there are so many servers out there, that it would be impossible to stop them all, but, come on Mojang! Step it up! It's not like you don't have any money to stop this. Make a difference. Enforce the law.
I fully support this cause and all that it stands for.
If there's anything I can do to help, send me a PM.
The short version about EULA enforcement is, "We cannot reasonably enforce it."
The longer version: Enforcing the EULA is, ultimately, Mojang's prerogative. It is their intellectual property to do what they like with, and part of that is deciding when, or if, they will enforce it. If you would like to report servers in violation, I would encourage you to drop a line here, and Mojang will address it as they will.
We are, above all else, a forum. By nature, forums encourage community discussion and interaction, and part of that is discussion about servers. Everyone can have their say about servers here, and that is fine to discuss, within reason (obvious exceptions exist, with name-calling, flaming, etc).
This thread still exists for the same reason threads about servers elsewhere still exist: it is open discussion, and we're all about that. However, what we cannot reasonably do is carry our rules outside of the forum itself, since it lies out of our control. What a server actually does, in practice, is not for us to decide. Again, if you feel you have found a server that breaks Mojang's rules, please report it here.
