So whenever I want to find a new server, Ill just search for one on those minecraft server sites. It's pain free, until I start to see some of the rules these servers have. Not only that, but when I log on to these servers, I see staff rarely online or abusing their powers. While most communities can function with little problems, there are still constant rule breakers. So rather than find decent staff worth hiring and just banning the trouble makers, what if servers began to pop up that abolished the traditional mod system and let players come up with their own rules? Of course no one is an /op, but bans for silly things such as typing "lag" in chat or stealing are no longer a pain. Of course there would be those who bring on their modded clients filled with all their fun goodies and cheats, and there would be such things as boundaries between wrong and right, but nonetheless it would still be interesting to see.
How long do you think a system like this would function, if at all? Would you spend some time playing on a server like this? What would be some of the "rules" that you come up with for yourself? I feel like a system like this could last for a few months before hitting the reset button. It'd be kinda fun to try to enforce your own rules and make other players follow them. There would be lots of creeper holes and scarred land, but war isn't pretty. Of course there'd be war because it's not possible for a bunch of players to unanimously agree to a bunch of rules. Anyways, time for your thoughts.
Hardly well at all. Minecraft is a game which means it was made to have fun. Having your base constantly griefed and robbed would drive off most long term players and most griefers only play for so long. It's an interesting concept you have but that's just not how humans function. That's also why communism failed, well that and it really ended up turning into dictatorships. If in theory it was practiced the way it was supposed to communism would have still failed. Most humans are driven by greed for better or for worse.
The important thing is not how long you live... It's what you accomplish with your life. While I live, I want to shine. I want to prove that I exist. If I could do something really important... That would definitely carry on into the future. My spirit will always live on. And so if I were to disappear... I think that all I have accomplished will go on. That would mean that it's living. That's actually a very interesting idea. What I think would happen is there would be people who got their friends together and made clans, and people who joined alone. There would of course be different types of players, some just wanting to survive and build and others more into PvP. As the people who had their friends to help made bases and spread resources around, some would take advantage of newer players and kill them just for the hell of it, and a large number of griefers would just roam around destroying what they can find. Servers without rules really draw in the scum of the game. Rules would be made like they are in real life, by the people with the biggest sticks. How long the server stays out of chaos depends on the character of those people, could be anywhere from weeks to several months.
Most humans are driven by greed for better or for worse.
I'm not too sure about this, but the ones that are driven by those motives are generally the ones that take power and aren't afraid to remove competitors

5. Even if you have no other reason to PM other than just to say hi and chat, that's fine! I don't use PM just for straight serious stuff, I'm more than happy to chat.
I've played about 6 months on 2b2t, and I do not agree at all with this statement.
I've stopped playing on 2b2t, because it has frequent lag problems, lots of teenagers that find it very funny to say racist bullcrap, and because I couldn't accept that 90% of the players there were cheaters, but nevertheless, 2b2t has been an unforgettable experience, one of the funniest server I've been on. I recommend it to every one*. 2b2t has been up for 5 years, it has lots of abandoned bases to visit, some of which are really impressive, it's a whole world with a strong identity, its own humour (a rather nihilistic one), and plenty of punk artwork about it. It's surely not the kind of server you hop on to for an hour or two to play spleef or paintball, you have to be patient and hard working to discover all the wonders of 2b2t.
*To everyone over 18: bad language, adult links, and all sort of deviant behavior are usual.
That's why I left shortly afterward. Anarchy server is a nice concept I suppose, but cheating, racist language, porn links, and lag are a no no for me.
Especially the adult content. I can't understand why teens feel like adults when they swear. Try swearing in front of your boss. See how long you keep your.job. Most adults I know would never swear in public. I guess the internet has changed this though.

Well, maybe I shouldn't put it so bluntly but most people are driven to work harder for that extra thing they want to buy. Maybe its not necessarily greed but you know where I'm going with this right? The desire maybe minimal compared to dictators but it's still there. That and why work a hard job when you can work an easy one and get the same pay. The desire to do less.

The server 2b2t.org is an anarchy server. It's also a complete disaster. This has been tried before, and believe me, it's no fun.
