The thing that everone is forgetting is that hacks will return, and now as there will be a cooldown, once hacker learn to bypass this code fights will be insanely harder against hackers...
See? That's what I said above, people are acting like it will save pvp when it will bring up more problems.
So its not just jitter clicking, its also minor strafing....totally considered another "dimension" to PvP as JCM said...eh, if people want to cry about it and play 1.7 forever, let them. I'll be enjoying neat new content.
Oh, and one more thing before I leave this thread(not interested in arguing), let's say you see a team of 2 and they are chasing you, what do you?
A: Run up to them and "spam click" them.
B: Find a chokepoint and try to kill them that way.
C: Split them up and then kill one of the separated members.
Honestly, which one sounds like you have a much higher chance of living? You can live through all of these but one of them is a very slim chance.
If you just run in and try to kill them they will kill you instead, if you damage one enough, he'll back up and the other will come in.
If you chokepoint them you can get them low on health and then go in to kill them, or they will run away because they're low.
If you split them up and kill one, there's pretty much no reason that you'll die. Not only is it less damage to be taken but it's just a 1-on-1 fight. Then, you kill the other one when you're full on health and he comes to get you.
The thing that everone is forgetting is that hacks will return, and now as there will be a cooldown, once hacker learn to bypass this code fights will be insanely harder against hackers...
See? That's what I said above, people are acting like it will save pvp when it will bring up more problems.
You speak as if hackers have never appeared in the game up until 1.9. They ALWAYS have, and have bypassed all kinds of mechanics and even used ones against mini-games or games such as PvP, such as a double jump, aura kill, or flying in general, and this was way before 1.8. All in all, for each update, and for every game excluding Minecraft, hackers will always play unfairly and abuse the system. Don't act like it's such a surprise.
Oh, and one more thing before I leave this thread(not interested in arguing), let's say you see a team of 2 and they are chasing you, what do you?
A: Run up to them and "spam click" them. I'd just like to clarify, a majority of skills used in the old system involved jitter-clicking.
B: Find a chokepoint and try to kill them that way. What do you mean by checkpoint? Area where PvP is disabled? Area to retaliate? etc?
C: Split them up and then kill one of the separated members. That's a very unlikely case, unless one is just buying his/her time and have the other move in to kill until either dies.
Honestly, which one sounds like you have a much higher chance of living? You can live through all of these but one of them is a very slim chance.
If you just run in and try to kill them they will kill you instead, if you damage one enough, he'll back up and the other will come in. I have been in mini-games (ones where you chose classes and fight. A.K.A Craft Brothers) and I've had capabilities to defeat 2 teamers alone, using brain over brawn. If I wasn't able to, I was at least capable of taking one down with me, and I'm generally terrible at PvP.
If you chokepoint them you can get them low on health and then go in to kill them, or they will run away because they're low. Depends on the situation, and since I really don't know what you mean by checkpoint, it can vary greatly.
If you split them up and kill one, there's pretty much no reason that you'll die. Not only is it less damage to be taken but it's just a 1-on-1 fight. Then, you kill the other one when you're full on health and he comes to get you. Again, it can vary. Like I said, I was able to defeat 2 teamers before, and I didn't even need to use powerful armour or weapons to do so either, since it was rather balanced PvP (to an extent that is). But other than that, what does this have to do with 1.8/1.9 combat style?
You speak as if hackers have never appeared in the game up until 1.9. They ALWAYS have, and have bypassed all kinds of mechanics and even used ones against mini-games or games such as PvP, such as a double jump, aura kill, or flying in general, and this was way before 1.8. All in all, for each update, and for every game excluding Minecraft, hackers will always play unfairly and abuse the system. Don't act like it's such a surprise.
No no no, choke-point. xD not check point. Like somewhere you can get an advantage over the people to kill them. Anyways, did you not read my other post? I clearly said that attack speeds will be hacked like every other hack. ._. i'm not new to hackers, I play on servers regularly with loads of them. Sorry if it sounded like it was a surprise to me, it's not. I'm just stating that introducing the attack speed will not cancel out spam clicking because not only will hackers abuse it and remove it, but people will still spam click for the fun of it.
And yes, you're right. Part of the skill system in the old people was clicking, not jitterclicking. Not everyone can jitter click. And how do you suppose you're going to hit people? just click once or twice? No, clicking fast is part of the PVP that actually allows you to attack.
We're not talking about minigames here, since those are much better in 1.8 and will be in 1.9. Other games like FFA arenas, or Survival Games, is what I'm talking about. Minigames usually have a twist to them that others don't, such as power ups, or special classes, etc...
Ugh. It depends on skill, haven't I already said this? You can fight a 2 team with full iron head on and most likely lose...BUT! Depending on their skill you could win. For instance, I've killed a 2 of team by thinking about what I was doing before I tried to fight them. I didn't just rush in, I split them up and then killed one while the other was too far away to help. I then killed the other after.
See? It does NOT matter about armor or weapons, it's about strategy and actually thinking before you go barging in. I would've died before I fought them if I didn't split them up.
Also, since you don't seem to understand what i mean by splitting them up, let me explain:
You're getting chase by 2 guys, so, you try to take a shortcut. The other teamate decides he will try to cut you off. While he's away, you attack the one behind you, kill him, and then run to regen to full health to kill the other guy.
this is my last post here, I could go on but I know the argument will keep going. Long story short, I will not play 1.9 PVP because it adds new issues to the current ones, and does not fit most pvp game types. PEACE
Apologies if it sounded like that to you, I was simply explaining that everything will be fine for a month or so until hackers return at which it will be harder to fight against them due to the new mechanics, this would make it less enjoyable to play 1.9 PvP based gamemodes and minigames as it would be harder that previously to defeat hackers.
Technically the good thing about that is even though new "anti-cooldown" hacks may arise, autoclicker and kill aura will be useless now.

Havent played this game in 1 year... so much new stuff...
Massive updates are taking years because Mojang is finally managing the messy jumble of spaghetti code that was Minecraft before. What would you rather, a game that runs well and at least still has updates that include content for free? Or a game that runs poorly on computers up and down the spectrum but with thousands of new items per update, maybe some "premium" items for those who can fork out additional cash?
Updates aren't just about content, the code of the game is just as important, if not more important than the content itself. Without well optimised and efficient code you wouldn't be able to play the game, nor would people who have systems that are orders of magnitude more powerful than the recommended system to run the game on.
I am not dumb, I am aware that 1.7 1.8 and 1.9 are basically updates that are for updating the code from the terrible code that Notch wrote, I get it. I also get it's not magic and takes time. What I am saying is they shouldn't do it all at once, and create massive breaks between updates. They should do it in smaller stages, even if it takes more time. Not to mention they are mostly doing this for ModAPI not because they truly wanted new code (That is a massive positive upside however!). Once ModAPI comes out, and they finish rewriting the game, they will resume short updates and mods will keep the game fresh in between.
Okay, so now the PVP part. You've obviously never player PVP that much
I don't think you've played another game with PvP before...
PvP in Minecraft is a complete joke pre-1.9, it's much improved in 1.9 but still extremely basic. This is why you will never ever ever see competitive Minecraft PvP, let's say at MLG or WCG.
It's quite evident when the "skill" factors are strafing and your ability to use hotkeys ROFL. The closest game I could think of in relation to Minecraft's PvP was WoW. They're fairly similar in that you will be strafing and using hotkeys I guess? LOLOLOL.
So let's analyze a 3v3 in Minecraft, using this video.
Now the first 30 minutes of the video are spent gathering resources, because gear reigns supreme in Minecraft PvP. A true "skill" fight in Minecraft would actually be an unarmored fist fight but I digress.
Around the 29 minute mark of the video, the PvPing actually starts. Pay special attention to the voice comms. The only real strategy I heard before the engage was "Don't forget I have some speed and poison potions so I can run and poison them" and "don't shoot, take shots and get all their arrows". After the engage, it's "he poisoned me big, but I ate a golden apple" then "he's dead". Followed by a quick click spamming chase on the remaining two members of the other team.
Now let's analyze a 3v3 in WoW, using this video.
Now granted, it takes much longer than 30 minutes to get your PvP gear in WoW, but everyone uses the same basic standardized resilience arena gear.
Now listen to the voice comms during the WoW 3v3... It's night and day. There's constant chatter of second by second changes during the fight. "What's our trinkets like?", "I have everything defensive", "I'm stuck in frost nova", "ok he rallied", "I'm trinketing this", "I'm stunned", "I'm blind", "I hate polymorph", "another iceblock"...
There's simply no dimension to Minecraft PvP as jcm2606 has tried to explain multiple times. The number of significant decisions you need to make on a second by second basis are basically non-existent. This is why Minecraft PvP will never be competitive, it has an incredibly low skill cap.

Er, I wouldn't call an updated renderer, multi-threaded worlds and moving to shaders rewrites for the sake of the modding API, more so for the good of the game. If you can even call it a modding API, more like a plugin API.
Either way, they're not doing it all at once, doing it all at once would mean doing it all in a single update, they're spreading it out to make things easier. This really depends on how much of the cooldown is on the client or server and how much communication is going on. One of the reasons why I personally think developing hacked clients is genuinely much more difficult than mods is because it forces you to think of ways to make the server do something only on the client, because you only have access to the client's code.
Let's say the way it works is like this. When the player uses their sword (clicks and swings it), it starts the cooldown (this isn't how it'll work in reality, there'd likely be some tick management going on as you can't have a loop running inside the game, execution is sequential, so you stop execution of code to count down thirty seconds, the game literally stops dead in it's tracks) which is handled on both client and server (client for rendering purposes, perhaps?). Now the general rule-of-thumb is the server is the dominant side of logic, if the client changes some data it won't affect the game because the server is in charge of the logic, not the client, most often it'll be syncronised and your changes will be lost and overwritten by the server. So the cooldown is on both client and server when you swing your sword, however due to syncronisation you can't just change the client's data and have it magically break the server. This is probably the most accurate generalisation of how it'd work in reality.
When I read your two comments, I got the impression that you thought a hacker would come up with a solution to bypass the cooldown and just go back to the old spam-click, which isn't true. There's no way with our devised system to make the server just think the cooldown is over solely from the client. If the cooldown is stored for the currently held item, you could maybe quickly swap between the sword's inventory slot and another random slot then back again and see if that resets the cooldown, but I don't think Mojang has designed it that way, so that likely won't work. There's no packet to send to the server to tell it the cooldown is over, because it's syncronised so the server is the dominant side of logic and it calls the shots, not the client. You can't force the client to not accept the cooldown (this is how the older ".lock" hacks worked, where you'd die but your client was never notified or plainly did not accept that you actually died so you were practically alive while being invisible; alive to your client, dead to the server) because it's server-sided, even if your client didn't accept it, the server is what's dealing the damage and it'll recognise that you're hitting during a cooldown period and deal penalised damaged.
Unless hackers pull the old "force OP plugin" stunt, where they try and con a server into installing a plugin that does what they need to do, I don't think hackers will be able to bypass the cooldown as easily as you think. There's no stopping them from timing it so the moment the cooldown ends, hit again, that's not avoidable aside from if you skew and offset the cooldown randomly by a random value, so one hit was 3.3 seconds, the other was 3.5, the next was 2.7, the one after was 4.0, etc. However, they could just programmatically bypass this by going "whatever the cooldown duration is, use this as the delay for the next attack". There's no stopping them from hitting the moment the cooldown is over, and it's been this way since alpha, but I don't think they'll be able to bypass the cooldown so long as Mojang has designed it in a smart and intelligent way.

Still that's pretty much what PvPing is about right now - spam-clicking. The person who wins is almost always the one who donates the most to the server, not the one who is the best (unless of course the best person donates a lot to the server).
Really! Last time I checked on Mineplex the donors don't seem to have an advantage. I guess the fact that people respect them a bit more than the ordinary noob is an advantage now or something... Weird
To TNT123BOOM: Minecraft PvP had many different strategies other than spam clicking and hitting the space bar before 1.9, many people just don't realize it. One of the best things in PvP, very easy to get on any server, is a fishing rod. Yep, I said a fishing rod. It is one of the best weapons, used to create massive combos. Now, I would say strafing from a bow, but everyone already does that, so next I'll say potions. Now many people don't use potions right, they just spam the debuff potions, not carefully throwing them at the opponent. Also many people don't use these anymore, but enderpearls are very helpful if you do see a diamond guy. Now, there are some other nooby things people do, like bow spam, but I'm not talking about those because they aren't smart ideas. There are also many more, but to sum it up, there are many PvP weapons that most people just forget are there, and don't get used. Note: Minecraft Fourm was being annoying to me, so I couldn't quote you.

Don't worry, You're not the only one who get annoyed by quoting, quotes are so mean in the forum here.
Anyway, Thanks for finally answering my question about other skills in old pvp system, well i like to call those more like Ways than actual skills, But even so, those are not enough to fill the Empty-ness in PvP, Nor the new pvp system fills it, But the new pvp system STARTS to fill it by fixing and Balancing out the PvP.
And many are saying that, the fight in new pvp system is hard, since you can block attacks and stay at distance between you and the other player , Well when i PvP with people, i hold the sword in the first slot and the bow in the second, which is basically the same, Hit with the sword, and use the bow to keep at distance. Not a real new thing.
Enderpearls are somewhat a problem in pvp in my opinion, specially because of the damage it does, Imagine that you're in a fight, with low health and you want to escape, But then you use enderpearls and get damaged, You die, See? not that much good Enderpearls are useful in some situation, Not all.
Oh and about the fish rod, it's only practical use in pvp is pulling players towards you, Yes while this might be very useful, it could be pain in the ass (sorry for using such words) to get it to work (And yes i have tried it before), (Note: i am not saying that the fishing rod thing isn't good, it's actually pretty useful, but it's hard to work with)
Potions are now Balanced, Meaning they aren't too OP, I use potions alot when pvp-ing, But yes not many people get the hang of potions (mostly afraid that they might accidentally hit themselves with a debuff potion) i really can't say much about potions now.
Again i probably said this hundreds of times: 1.9 Balanced out chunks of pvp that were either so OP or so weak, the golden apple nerf is a thing that i loved the most, not forgetting the armor nerf and enchantments.
1.9 adds combos and an actual fight style, You want to knockback players? Use an Axe, Want to hit them fast? use a hoe, Want to deal critical damage? use a sword, Want to block an attack? Use a shield, And there are many other combos i won't mention. (Old pvp system has a tiny combos, not saying that it doesn't)
(And before anyone starts striking with the Elytra here, Elytra are like gliders, Not Flying wings, You can't fly with it, You can only glide)
(and sorry for mistakes in typing if found, it's 2 AM here and i am sleeping while typing)

Really! Last time I checked on Mineplex the donors don't seem to have an advantage. I guess the fact that people respect them a bit more than the ordinary noob is an advantage now or something... Weird

Not quite true, because the hack client makers will Probably implement "Anti-Cooldown" into killaura/forcefield and it will be even more op.

Read my comment for an explanation as to why this won't happen. It's not as simple as just saying "I want anti-cooldown, dammit!" and it happening.

So.. How do I sign my device?
Havent played this game in 1 year... so much new stuff...
I'm just a very boring person.
I agree with this.
People, this is not a thread to argue about fact versus opinion, or subjective versus objective claims. This is a thread for discussing the current and future health of the Minecraft game. Please keep the thread on-topic.

If people do not talk with facts there cannot be an on-topic discussion, unfortunately.
Post which are solely used to argue about semantics of other posts while not actually discussing Minecraft are going to be considered off-topic.
