Sorry to say, but gold is practically useless. The only good use I can think of is Golden Carrots, and Golden Apples.
Golden Apples take 8 gold though.
I don't know if you posted it in here or a different staff member accidentally moved it here, but Suggestions is only for suggesting things to be added to the vanilla game, not suggestions for what to do while playing. Moving this to Discussion.
Edit: Moved.
To answer your question though, it really depends on how you play, and for basically anything you are going to need way more than 2 ingots. The only thing you can make with 2 ingots is a Sword, Hoe, or 2 Shovels (all useless), or you can make a Weighted Pressure Plate (very specific uses). Or you can craft each of them into 9 Gold Nuggets which can be used for some various things, mainly potion ingredients.
Personally the only thing I ever use Gold on is Golden Apples for making Villagers (moving them is a pain), or making things with Powered Rails.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.

What you do is you go to the first post of the thread, click the button that says "Report" at the bottom of that post, then you pick either "Wrong Section" or "Move/Delete My Post" and explain using the text box why it should be moved and what section it should be in. Then a staff member will see the report and move it. You won't get in trouble for accidentally putting a post in the wrong section if you report it and ask it to be moved yourself, but we're pretty lenient about that anyways unless the person is obviously doing it on purpose.

I just want to chime in on the clock suggestion above. Whenever I start from scratch then the first thing I do with my gold is to make a clock. Because this can help tremendously with timing what to do. For example; when I'm mining underground and I know that my crops have grown I can simply keep track of time and head back up when it's morning, so to avoid most of the mobs.
Same applies to locations where my mine is on another location (walking distance though) than my house. A clock helps me to keep track of time and plan the trip back and forth. Later on (when I managed to light up the whole area) I no longer need it, but before that time...
My vote is save your two ingots, until you get two more, then build a clock. Useful to the extreme, when you go out exploring around base, you can know when to head back so as to not be caught out, or when to come up from mining. Very useful item.
I would have to disagree with the usefulness of the clock, at least through the latest version of 1.8 (haven't really tried 1.9 enough). To me, a better replacement item for singleplayer would be a Bed. No need to worry about making it back at a certain time when you can make it daylight again. For servers or if you just dislike using Beds like that, all you really need to get back safely is a Sword and some food. You can travel on the surface with no torches for days without stopping as long as you have a good Sword and enough food to keep your sprinting and health regen up. And if you are close enough that you can go out at dawn and be back before nightfall, then you really can't be more than 2 minutes from safety anyways.

This is true, but the clock is useful in another way. Say you want to explore a ravine or a mineshaft. Your spawn is above ground at home. If you die and respawn there, there's no way you'll be able to make it back in time. But if you sleep in a bed, you'll respawn there. Unfortunately, you can't sleep unless it's night. If you have a clock, you'll know when you can sleep. You'll know when it's safe to start exploring it.

Whatever I just said, I didn't mean any offense. Unless we're fighting, in which case I probably did.
If I said something was a joke when it didn't seem like one, I'm making an excuse to avoid an argument I know is coming. Instead of telling me how not funny I am and how it didn't seem like a joke at all, just go along with it. Because flame wars suck and nobody wants to be a part of one.
Roughly 95% of Minecraft players hate Villagers and would be very happy if they were removed. If you are one of the 5% who actually like villagers, copy this into your signature.-RainbowGirl

Keep them. As u are now, gold is useless, but when u get full diaond enchanted, u will se that gold is good (for enchanting, the best; even tho they break fast, the enchantments u get are pretty good at all). Then when u kill the Wither, u will need a beacon; u will use ore blocks (gold, emerald, diamind and iron blocks) to power the beacon. DONT USE THE GOLD U HAVE NOW! Its very hard trying to collect 164 blocks of ore.

Hello, I'm kinda new to Minecraft - a few months old - but haven't come across gold until now.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to use my first 2 gold ingots on?
I have loads of iron which I believe is much more durable than gold.
Thanx heaps.

You can also use it to build a clock, for when you go mining.
