It doesn't really matter because mojang are still the ones who work the develop the game. if anything, mojang will now get professional assistance from top-tier microsoft developers when they need it which is a good thing.
The only bad thing about it is that i wish notch wouldn't leave.
No they didn't. before the 1.8 update there was a long period with no updates too. even when notch was still at the team the updating rate was pretty much the same
But Notch had a better sense of what the game was supposed to be. Now, instead of having any real focus they're just adding EVERYTHING. Minecraft used to be a game where you were creative with limited materials.
Not only that, but the community as well has degraded. It's mostly young children now. Places like the VoxelBox went down, youtube channels like the YogsCast lost their focus, the game just stopped being adventurous and fun.
Microsoft is simply going to do nothing but market it in that way only a corporation can. I never see that as a good thing.

1. I really love the new additions and i'm glad the game takes a more brave approach with it's updates
2. Nothing wrong with children enjoying the game. minecraft is for all ages including lil kids
In Survival, you get to a certain point and then you're pretty much guaranteed to survive, even while exploring taiga after taiga and desert after desert. In Creative, there's no limit to what you can build other than the time you have to spend building it. Games get boring. If it's not fun, maybe it's time to find something new and circle back around when the new updates come out?
Notch stop being directly involved looooong before Microsoft stepped in with an offer to buy Mojang.
Furthermore Notch has been on the record to state that some of the things he added were not even in his "vision" for the game, but he made some promise to someone to add them and there it is. Wolves are one such item.
Notch was experiencing burnout and becoming overwhelmed with what Minecraft and Mojang had become, so to say Microsoft is destroying this game is nothing further from the truth. There is no way to tell how much longer Notch had enough drive and interest in Mojang and Minecraft to keep it viable before he pulled the plug himself in a mental breakdown or just disappeared for the sake of his own sanity. Microsoft stepping in and gobbling up Mojang, like it or not, is probably the best thing for milking a few more viable years out of Minecraft.
In order to sustain growth, you need to constantly branch out into new areas of the market. Cry all you want, but middle aged adults are not a great demographic to sustain a game. For this demographic Minecraft/games have to compete with food, housing, transportation, children, retirement, to name a few for that almighty piece of that income pie. There isn't a big chunk left over to be dumped into the disposable income portion of an adults budget. Not to mention how much more critical this segment is with those funds when it comes to blowing it on another copy of Minecraft or something more tangible.
But you know what demographic is a virtual goldmine? Children. They're young, impressionable, have a huge percentage of disposable income in comparison, and are as fickle and ever changing as all get out. Children will not only consume a game, but if successful they devour everything associated with the related item. I was recently walking through the toy aisle at a local store with my son and I saw every sort of merchandising shtick imaginable relating to Minecraft. Minecraft plush toys, keychains, shirts, foam swords, picks, and axes, figurines, Lego sets - the entire aisle was Minecraft stuff. Children are are a large reason Minecraft is still making Microsoft drool and throw fistfuls of money at the Mojang team to continue doing what they are doing.
So in short, while yes I sometimes would like a larger adult community to play with in Minecraft, I will not badmouth the large child base. Instead I will thank them, and their generous parents who shell out from their seemingly bottomless pockets, to fund their Minecraft addiction. Because without them Minecraft would just another meagerly funded game with only the passion and delight of making the game as the only reward for those hardworking individuals at Mojang
There are still plenty of adults out there enjoying Minecraft, it's just that the population has gotten so much bigger you have to look a little harder and longer to find what you want. There are plenty of needles in the haystack, it's just that there is now more hay to search through.
As for Yogcast and the countless other YouTube acts that fell off the radar - that is on them, not Minecraft. Developing new, interesting, and entertaining material is hard work. Not to mention their desire to probably work on something new and different; something other than Minecraft. Being a one trick pony is suicide in the entertainment industry. Let it go and enjoy it for what it is worth. When it loses its luster, move on. Minecraft, and all associated acts, have had a longer than average lifespan. Be thankful for that.
To be honest, Microsoft are just there to take care of the overall ownership of Minecraft and Mojang. Microsoft make sure that they don't get in the way and that Mojang has full control of the development of Minecraft. All Microsoft does is take the pressure of the political things off Mojang and allow them to do what they do best;developing things.

It worried me at first, but I'm not really worried about it anymore. It seems like things are going to be mostly business as usual.
I think the idea of a Windows 10 version of Minecraft, coded in C++, where players have the ability to connect with people on Xbox, Pocket Edition, and Windows 10 is fantastic.

I remember at one point a long long long time ago, Notch at one point said he envisioned the game being free once it was "complete". I don't think a game like this can ever be complete, because there's always ways that developers at Mojang can add more of this or more of that. However, Microsoft buying the game seals the deal. With a huge corporation like Microsoft owning the game, and depending on it to make big $$$$$, there is absolutely ZERO chance that the game will EVER be free. That is why I hate to see Microsoft buying the game. As long as it stayed entirely in the hands of the Mojang company, there was always a chance (even if only very small) that the game would eventually be provided as freeware. However that slight possibility vanishes 100% with Microsoft now owning it.
Notch leaving and Microsoft acquiring Mojang are unrelated. And both sides have already stated MS is simply a business partner and doesn't want to intervene in development, in other words, they're not after the development of the game, they're after the ability to partner with Mojang, what for? Personally, I think business-wise they're after advertisement and they're wanting to move Minecraft closer to the Windows platform, but what CreeperFuse stated is also possible and likely happening.

You also have to factor in that Notch likely didn't mean that the game was finished, but also the community grew tired of it and got smaller. I'd assume any strategic companies would not pull the plug on a game and release it as freeware, regardless if it's finished in terms of development, if the fan base is alive and kicking, that'd be killing opportunities to make money which I look at Mojang and, personally, I see them as a one-trick-pony for their projects. I cannot see a possible sequel to Minecraft and many of their other games, so unless they release an entirely new title, they rely on their existing projects for income.
Lowering the price when the games complete and the community is still thriving is a possibility, but personally I don't think Notch meant solely when the game is complete, rather when the game was on it's last straight and dying out.

I think it's obvious he meant that it was still while the game was popular. He was clearly trying to appeal to fans of the game with his comment, because he knew this would be one comment that they'd love to hear. So I don't think meant when the fanbase dissolved that he would consider releasing it as freeware. I think that he envisioned (albeit probably mistakenly) that at some point the game would in fact be a complete product with no further need to update it.
This is the way I see it, Microsoft is the bank, the money people, or you could consider them the sponsor's of minecraft. But, Mojang is still the main developer, and will always be. So as far as Im concerned there is nothing to be worried about.
