Ok, lets start. Here are my reasons why dirt is better then wood.
My friend and I were building houses. I built one out of dirt, he did wood. He said mine was crap, I told him, "Well, It was just a joke. I was going to build mine out of wood and cobble. To spice it up!". We then went off and went mining. Later a server griefer came and put fire all around the houses. When we came back, we saw his house go to waist! From then I noticed that dirt is better then wood when building houses. As its easy to get, it doesn't burn down. The negatives are, its easy to explode (like wood), easy to mine (a little big worse then wood), It looks UGLI. And pro players will just say your crap at minecraft. I've tried a survival with a dirt house, it ended out pretty good. So give me your thoughts, which is better dirt or wood?

I'm making a mod-pack, that is like a minecraft server with mini-games, etc. It has fake players, (About 500 fake players). But I hope it ends out good, If you guys want it, keep giving me good idea's and support!
I think you have a great point. There are benefits to both a wood house, and a dirt house. As with everything in minecraft, it all comes down to personal preference. It doesn't really matter which one is better.

Thank you! I didn't really think of having a dirt house but it turned out very good!

Like everything else in life, it's a contextual matter. Is dirt better than wood? Yes, but only on multiplayer if it's well disguised. On the other hand, if you're on singleplayer, you might want to go with wood as it has a higher blast resistance.

If you're more of a builder type of guy like me, then you will obviously choose wood over noobish dirt. If you are on a server that allows griefing, instead of making a dirt house, I suggest making one underground. Yes, X-RAY hax users will be able to find it. But I have an underground base on this one factions server (I've had it for a few months), and I have never been raided of griefed.
Dirt is good, because if you can make a dirt house look good you've already won Minecraft. Screw the "hard" things like getting diamonds, enchanting, or farming wither skulls.
I use wood because it looks better. But if you are on a server with prankers or a normal world it saves you lots of wood (and maybe your house) so I would say dirt is better but it looks bad. and wood is better for looking good but can have a few more down sides then upsides

Yes, about the well disguised, even underground in factions or raid-able minigames, it would be useful as people mining for diamonds don't want it.

As I said to WolfSage, being underground would be a good point. I know about builders, they don't like dirt. But still making houses out of dirt could save you some time! And remember, fire doesn't burn it.

I know wood looks better, but still try dirt because it is very easy to collect, and its fast to push to get the strong ores like diamond!

It depends; on a creative server where they are focused on building it is a slap in the face to the others on the server. On a server where greifing is common survival is the real point anyway; so it will most likely be concealed with a bud sensor activated using a hoe or the like for entry. There is nothing "noobish" about using dirt if the situation calls for it.

I mean like, in a survival world people use it. If your doing single player, it would be useful. In situations like Creative, there no points because you got all the blocks anyways.

A "creative" build server don't necessarily mean building in creative. I guess I'm saying be respectful to others around you and don't just doing because it is easy. Most of these type servers don't allow greifing so there would be no point of it there anyway.

I understand what you mean. But I think most servers allow griefing in like factions etc.

While dirt may protect you from griefers... no sane person builds right next to spawn on a populated server without land protection. I generally only use dirt for farms and for terraforming, which takes more than enough dirt when making a large scale underground farm.

Wood. Dirt is just ugly.

Farewell everyone o/
As i said, it looks disgusting. So about that I installed a texturepack to make it look like wood!

I agree that dirt is better if your playing on a server. But if your playing by yourself, I would recommend wood.
Thank you.

I actually can't vote, since a dirt house can actually look nice if you do it right. And yet I build my buildings mostly out of wood and stone:
Please read THIS before making a suggestion
And support the ability to add paintings and records!
Wood is better in Singleplayer, Dirt is better in Multiplayer.
But Cobblestone is better than anything else.
You do not get the point.
Wood is good because it isn't able to blow up easily, but it is flammable. Dirt blows up very easily in one shot, but it doesn't burn.
It's Minecraft.
