is Minecraft a boyish game or a girlish game? and who plays it more, also do males do more survival in minecraft than femalales, and do females do more archictecture or vise versa?
Minecraft is neither a boyish nor a girlish game. I would argue that no game should be exclusively for boys or girls, but minecraft is especially gender-neutral. There's no blood and gore to try and pander to boys and there's no froofy pink stuff to pander to girls. I think that not only helps the game but also helps society move past the idea that things must be pink or pastel for girls to be allowed to play with them.
I haven't seen a census of the whole minecraft community, but the forums tend to be dominated by boys from my impression, though probably less so than most other forums.
As for your second question, there is no data to confirm or deny this, but studies of other games have found somewhat similar results. I don't actually know, and my small sample size of friends is actually reversed of that. Important to note that this isn't some inherent difference between sexes, but an ingrained idea of masculinity/femininity that I would argue does not help gamers and should not be propagated.
(Also blah blah boy doesn't always equal male and same for girl and female, but I won't bug you about that, I'm sure you've heard it before.)

Here is my signature. If you like it, I am amazed.
Well, on multiplayer I have seen a lot more skins of boys than girls and personally, as a girl, I like architecture and cheating more than straight survival

I'm female and I enjoy building (though I'm not very good at it yet) and caving, and am not opposed to throwing the game into creative mode if I don't feel like grinding for building materials.

I don't have a preference over the creative or survival aspects of game. While I can certainly see how these opinions may differ between genders, much is dependent on culture, which can vary significantly over relatively small distances. This could potentially bias any mass surveys.
Well, I'm a girl, and I love the survival part of the game. I HATE cheating (aka using creative in a survival world), but I know a lot of guys that are more into the building instead of the surviving.

I'm making a mod-pack, that is like a minecraft server with mini-games, etc. It has fake players, (About 500 fake players). But I hope it ends out good, If you guys want it, keep giving me good idea's and support!
It really shouldn't matter the majority of which gender plays this game more. We are all different from one another so that means we have different interests. For example, a certain girl could like dolls but another girl likes robots more. You can still have common interests with another person but you are not like another person. So this is why we shouldn't stereotype and say things like...
"Minecraft is a boy's game because you get to kill and hunt for meat. And the main character is a boy named Steve so pretty much it's a male dominated game." - Said no one ever.
It goes the same way around as well.
"Minecraft is a girl's game because you have flowers and other plants you can take care of. You also have animals you don't have to kill. You can tame and love them! Why do you think they had to add a girl named Alex? Because it's a female dominated game." - Said no one ever.
Everyone has their one interests. For all you know a boy could like dolls and like MLP (nothing wrong with that) and a girl could play COD and hunt for meat like Katniss Everdeen (nothing wrong with that). This is because we are all different and this is why we shouldn't stereotype.

OP didn't ask whether minecraft was a male-targeted game or a female-targeted game. He asked whether there were more male or female minecraft players. Personally, I think there are more males, but there is a substantially large % of female players (in my experience) than in other gaming communities (FPS, MOBA, etc.)

I know what he asked. I'm just saying, its neither a boy game or girl game. Its mostly multi-gender. Which allows boys and girls to be playing the game. If minecraft was only a girl game or only a boy game, mojang wouldn't be getting that much money. Which why they didn't make that move. The positives of being a multi-gender game is that mojang would be getting more money from buyers. Also people can make friends on the internet. Even though more boys play minecraft, girls still play. So they are included. #MinecraftIsMultiGender

Not a clue, someone should make a survey on it.

Well, considering 60% of gamers are male, I'm gonna second guess myself, and say more male.
Minecraft is not directly aimed at a specific gender.

Both boys and girls play Minecraft. Sometimes it may seem like it's geared towards boys, but I see a lot of female players too.
On your second question, I think both males and females like Survival mode, and I have seen many good builders that are boys and girls.
So I would say that, maybe there are a little bit more male players, but overall a good mix of both genders play Minecraft.
