im not counting skyblock, im talking about in a vanilla minecraft experience
Skyblock IS vanilla Minecraft, its not like iam using any Mods when playing Skyblock, also its very useful in a regular world for farming, how are you going to breed chickens or pigs or cows if you don't have any grown food? you cant, without dirt you would have ANY FOOD AT ALL

Every block is useful, regardless of what it's made of. Therefore, any blocks listed as useless are not counted.
If it's a solid block, it can be placed to cross ravines, water, stop mobs, fill holes, etc... It's a feature of every solid block.
Even ferns and tall grass have uses, obscuring mobs view so skeletons will not shoot until they've passed the fern/grass. They also yield seeds when broken, like normal tall grass.
As far as items go, the Music Discs are probably the least useful. Used in no crafting recipes; cannot be crafted; cannot be placed; dropped from creepers with a specific method or found in dungeon chests (usually replacing something potentially better); and has no visible effect when used.

you may argue that, but really, vanilla is just regular minecraft, not minecraft on a floating island. im sure skyblock requires some kind of map download or the world generator to be modified to generate floating islands.
Every block has a potential use for decoration, including plants, prismarine, granite/diorite/andesite, the dragon egg, endstone, to name a few. I think the least useful item would be chain armor, since it is rare to find and isn't worth using compared to iron armor which I use all the time.
EDIT--Actually, the mundane potion is the least useful, since it does nothing except allow for the weakness potion to be brewed. This is insensible since the weakness potion can be brewed with a water bottle and the mundane potion is simply a waste of an ingredient.
Gold hoes. All gold tools really, but gold hoes are especially useless because other tools at least have the enchanting thing. What can you enchant a hoe with?

Timeless Modding is kinda dead but idk what to put here now
I know that you can't play without it, but it's not really used in the gameplay. Like, you can't obtain it and it doesn't do anything. I agree it's technicaly needful tho.
yes but this forum thread was intended to discuss obtainable items and blocks in survival Minecraft (vanilla)

and what is the use for granite, diorite, and andesite, and if you are going to say decoration then that's not a really good use, then you can dirt as decoration with that kind of attitude!

The three types of stone can be handy for mapmakers or builders, who want a lot of variety in their blocks, and these blocks look quite nice when polished. Dirt can be used for decoration when making a flower bed or garden, not to mention allowing you to grow crops, spawn animals, repair creeper craters, etc.
Most blocks, items, and everything have SOME use. Dirt is used for almost everything. If we didn't have dirt, the only source of wood would be structures. The dragon egg is a trophy that symbolizes your power over beating the Ender Dragon. And those of you saying that if something is only used for decoration, it shouldn't exist? Minecraft would be one boring game.
I think dead bushes are the most useless item because they absolutely do nothing but just sit there and look ugly, I know their only use in the game is for aesthetic purposes but to me its not really that eye-catching. You can put it in a flower pot and that's all you can do with it.
I think the most useless item is different types of stone, I mean, pretty much the only thing you can do with different types of stone is (andesite, granite etc.) polish them and im not even sure you can make stairs with them. And frankly, I think they are just plain ugly...

The most useless item in the game?
Bedrock.
We don't need it! We can just mine above it.

but what happens when you don't have bedrock? you fall off and die 20 times a day just trying to find diamonds

I think the most useless item in the game are leaves. Mostly because on survival, you cant obtain it. And on creative, no one uses it often.
Um dude leaves can be obtained by using shears on leaf blocks or with a silk touch anything.
The most useless item isn't very hard to find and anyone who farms will likely agree with the following 2 words
poisonous potatoe.
Sure it restores hunger but that depletes rather quickly usually costing more hunger than what you gained.
