A lot of people judge too quickly, especially these days. Take any quality of any game, an it becomes a handle for them to base their judgments on, even if they've never played it themselves. That said, even if they do, it's not necessarily going to make them feel differently about it. In the long run, it doesn't matter. If they call themselves gamers, I feel that one day they'll at least give it a shot, just to try the game that at one point grabbed hold of a surprisingly large portion of the gaming world.
Everyone has their opinion. I love MC, but plenty of people hate it. For both good reasons, and bad ones. It's by no means a new thing.

yes i know, there were many gr8 nerds. now dyas 4 some reason people try to offend others when calling them nerds. now i understand you totally, but just saying, ur probably not a nerd if u play minecraft and spend time on forums. the oroper definition of nerd is some1 who does not socialise (or socialize as u americans would spell it) and only learns epxperiments and repeats.
A while ago I made a program in Java that uses the Nilakantha series to calculate Pi, so I'm definitely a nerd, but I like to socialize.
That is very sad. However, regardless of whether they like the game, they should not be making fun of you for liking it. Are you sure these people are worth hanging out with? Denigrating you for doing something you enjoy is mean and repressive.

There is an equal audience for the most part. There are as many adults, teens, and kids playing the game, but I'm just going to say I feel like the child audience is the most loud. Probably because of the games style and popularity among children, it's depicted childish. But let's also point out they may just not like it. They also may be too quick to judge and won't dig deeper into the game. (No pun intended) There is a lot more to the game then mining and building. In general, the game is really for all, and those who don't like it might just have a different view then others. I used to look at it and say "Wow, stupid LEGO rip-off." But I then became a big fan of the game after I tried it. Some may think it's childish because of the theme or audience, but you know, thats their view. However, shoving it in your face and saying they don't want to hear it is plain rude and unnecessary behavior they have towards you.

Ok, I'm going to say something that is very blunt and might come off as very judgmental. Nevertheless, I believe it to be true. Those kids are weak. And weak minds are basically puppets for their corporate overlords. And their corporate overlords tell them to be loyal to whatever they are told is cool, while mocking anything else that they are told is uncool. Right now, being "hard" is cool. That means consuming gritty, realistic, ultra-violent, sexualized, hardcore entertainment. That goes for movies, music and video games.
Don't get me wrong; it is possible be into those things and NOT be a puppet. But if they consumed it because they truly enjoyed it (as opposed to being brainwashed to enjoy it), they wouldn't feel the need to justify it by making fun of other forms of entertainment. They wouldn't feel the need to draw a line between "adult" entertainment and "children's" entertainment as a way to reassure themselves that they are on the adult side. They would just enjoy it because they enjoy it.
You, on the other hand, are clearly not weak because you face belittlement for what you enjoy. Yet you don't let that deter you from continuing to be your own person. I realize that this doesn't do a whole lot to alleviate the fact that you have to spend like 6 hours a day with these people. But believe me, it does get better.

I've been playing Minecraft for abt 2 years already. It's been a fun, great, learning experience playing it.
Moving from the basics of survival mode, to creativity of creative mode, and eventually the experience of joining a multiplayer server.
I can safely say im a Minecrafter. However, it doesn't come easy...
As I tell my fellow classmates abt my latest adventures in Minecraft. I notice they don't view it the same way I do.
They view it as a 'childish, immature, block game'. and taunt me with 'go play ur MC' everytime i talk about it.
And it really hurts, Minecraft is NOT a kids game. So MANY adults, teens, and yes younger ppl, play MC. But not because we're
NERDs or anything. We just really LOVE the simplicity of Minecraft. Its so creative so fresh. Even if it may be 2D, Mojang made the perfect
balance between blocks and current appeal. And its safe to say, we who do play MC, aren't that into the idea of a game that is trying to be SO
3D and realistic, not realizing that its OBVIOUS that u cannot put REAL LIFE into a game. And we LIKE MC because of its clear straying
from trying to be a realistic figment, and its ability to be a outlet that we know is NOT real life, but able to enjoy it because it wont
be detrimental to our well-being.
I guess this isn't exactly something to respond too.. but more of typing out what you guys feel. I hope you guys feel the same
