I'm 90% done with my house in a new Vanillia-ish Survival server I joined a couple days ago. All that's for the house is the basement which will contain my XP farm and library/enchantment room.
In total, I have 18 large chests in the house. 6 in the living room and 12 in the storage closet of my bedroom. How would you recommend I sort my supplies?
I figured one for Cobble and other stones. One for wood and wooden planks. Then one for building materials such as stairs, fences, etc. Then one for sand/sandstone and glass. Then one for gravel and dirt. Then in the living room, I would have one for weapons, armors, and tools. Then another for food and potions. Then another for farming supplies. Then one for nether items, another for redstone items, and another for ores and emeralds. Perhaps I could add another chest for mob drops and random items. What else am I missing?
This is just my starter house. I plan to build a larger storage space as I spend more time playing the game and need the extra storage.
I spent a lot of time organizing my stuff in Minecraft. If something is out of place, I can get seriously OCD about it. I would normally make a different area dedicated to storing items and blocks, and a part of my time is spending my time in the storage room. Each chest is seperate among items and blocks like so:
Wood: Wooden Planks or Wood
Stone: Cobblestone, Gravel, Endstone, other stones, etc.
Useful Materials: Iron, Flint, Feathers, String, Coal, Torches, etc.
Tools & Weapons: Swords, Bows, Pickaxes, Axes, Shovels, etc.
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
I like having one chest per item, or per grouping of items. In the end, that leads with me having a large storage room, with about 60 chests, at least. For example, I'd have one chest for cobble, one for stone, one for andersite, etc., but I'd have one chest for all the birch wood items, and one chest for all the oak wood items, etc.
Use alternate chests Ordinary Trapped Ordinary Trapped etc and put a frame on each one with a picture of what is inside Like the new one I'm seeting up (see pic). Then you can be as illogical as you like - it's still easy to find what you need quickly.
One thing I've done lately is to, as much as possible, try and only keep base items in my storage. I don't store things like sticks, stairs, planks and fences. I just store the logs used to make them. I try to stick to raw materials as much as is reasonable and it's really helped me keep the size of my storage area down as well help me remember where everything is at.
With that caveat I have a bulk area with chests of wood logs, cobble, stone, sand, dirt, gravel etc. Then in the next section I have chests for
Precious Items (diamonds, emeralds, ender pearls etc.)
Gold ingots and all ores
Weapons & Tools
Enchanting supplies & books
Growing things (vines, pumpkins, cacti, saplings)
Odds & ends
The chest closest to the exit is my go-chest. In there I keep various load outs for the various things i do. Optimized gear sets for caving, mining, harvesting, exploring and combat.
omg I'm so new to this, I didn't even know you could put things in chests! I haven't even come across a chest yet or used one! lol. I've got alot of learning to do haven't I! Didn't realise there was so much to this game, just thought you built nice looking things an that's it! Oooops!
