You can't place anything on carpets because each carpet block takes up one block space. There would need to be an unspeakable amount of extra data values for all combinations of blocks and colors of carpet for that to exist. It's like how you can't just place anything on half slabs instead of the exact same slab to make a full block.
Yeah someone explained that to me so I do understand, however it still annoys me lol.
I suppose not but I guess I'm just a perfectionist when it comes to mc haha i have to do the whole floor the same, still though it seems ridiculous to not be able to place things on a carpet!!
It's worth noting that carpet doesn't always (often?) cover the whole floor of a house/room. Depending on your layout there might be permanent fixtures that you place carpet around, which can easily translate over to Minecraft in the same way.

Meh, On a server I used worldedit to make a futuristic looking skybase and used black carpet. Because it was supposed to be futuristic and torches would look bad, I hid redstone lamps under it for lighting

I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter. Fair exchange?
What's the point of carpet when you can't place anything on it? I get that you can just use wool for the same visual effect but seriously.. what's the point?????

Well duh but then you can see that the flooring is different underneath, i'm just a perfectionist with minecraft so it bugs me.

That's a great way to look at it. Thanks!
I would love to but I'm the noobiest noob and mods seem so complicated, I can't even get a shader installed properly

However carpet is definitely not useless. You can get very creative with it and it is great for hiding lights and red stone.
Agreed.
