I saw someone post this thread about 2 years ago so I want to bring it back and was wondering what do the people of minecraft get when they're playing minecraft?
On average without optifine i get 100+ (super flat 150+) and with optifine i get 150+ (super flat 200+) and these are with max settings with both
Specs for my computer:
RAM: 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Core: Quad 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
Display: 1920x1080 (21.5 inch screen)
It would be useful for the you to put the specs when you say your frame
Sounds about right, given the specs you provided. Minecraft is a heavy game, to an extent. It uses a lot of ram, cpu and graphical ram, but having more of these things does not usually equate into better performance, although it will allow you to do things like run more programs along side minecraft, and record/stream the game. I have similar specs to your computer, although I have 1600mhz ram, 8 core i7 3.2ghz processor, and 4gb of graphical memory. I normally get 120fps although if I don't lock the frame rate I can get usually get a solid 370 fps although using things like optifine can shoot it up to obscene and unpredictable numbers.
xxChaos123, I get up to 300fps in Singleplayer and Multiplayer. On Bad days I get 30. Also you might want to get more RAM.
Get more ram?! are you serious! 16GB is a lot for minecraft! In my opinion, the minimal you really need is 8, but i just got my computer like that (32 is waaay to much for minecraft)

My PC Build - CPU - I7 6700k @ 4.2GHz : Motherborad - Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 : CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i GTX : RAM - G.Skill Ripjaw V 16GB (4x4GB) : Storage - Western Digital Black 1TB / Samsung 850 EVO 250GB : GPU - MSI GeForce GTX 970 : PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 650W G2 : Case - NZXT H440 (Red)
You are correct. Ram doesn't do much but 8+ gigs is enough for gaming. 16 is overkill unless you also want to record. 32 is definitely overkill. But the thing is, Minecraft by default uses like 1 gig of ram so if you allocate more ram, you are more likely to get higher fps but from what I heard, it is a little risky as Minecraft runs in java.
With or without Optifine, ranging from 60 to 150 FPS. 4GB, i5, Radeon 7650M.
8?! For a game which uses 1.5 at most? I don't think so. I've never run out of memory or experienced lag from swap cycles with 4GB.
My computer has even less, 3 GB, and still has 1 GB free while I'm playing, if with less RAM than allocated by default, but still enough even for the default (plus I make Java use all of the memory by adding -Xms; this means it will actually use all of it, reducing the frequency of garbage collections. Note that you want some free RAM on your computer since Windows will use extra RAM as a disk cache, speeding up loading of cached files).
I also get a similar framerate, discounting a bug in versions since 1.7, which halves the average FPS with huge lag spikes at a regular (fixed) interval (it is possible to get rid of it, only by letting the game run unfocused, paused or otherwise).
Also, it is notable how much Advanced OpenGL, removed in 1.8, impacts my framerate:
By contrast, Optifine (claimed to double FPS*) has very little effect, aside from removing lag spikes (perfectly playable though, usually only on world generation or after moving quickly into new chunks, but only in Creative as I don't use horses or boats to explore new chunks) and improving chunk loading, better fog, etc:
(this is the most resource-demanding biome I've made, in terms of rendering and chunk generation, taking about 25 seconds to generate new chunks after teleporting to the center of one (any server lag is only momentary though; by contrast, 1.8 lags like crazy in jungles long after chunk generation, with only a gradual reduction in the time given in the "can't keep up" warnings); Fancy graphics does kill my FPS in biomes like this but I prefer the look of the Fast leaves and dropped items anyway, and wouldn't notice the differences 99% of the time; Optifine also lets you selectively enable Fast/Fancy for a lot of stuff; in addition, Fast removes a darkening around the sides of the screen, especially in dark areas like caves. Note also that both of these were taken on Normal/8 chunks render distance - look at the difference in fog! You basically have to use Far in vanilla to get the same visible distance without fog, never mind that Far is really only 10 chunks in vanilla 1.6.4 due to the server chunk loading always being 10 chunks - but that also means no mob spawning bugs, unlike 1.7.4, on lower render distances, even Normal)
*Interestingly enough, that claim first started when they added Advanced OpenGL to the game (see here for Beta 1.4; AOGL is also known as occlusion culling), before it was added to vanilla - and look - it does double my FPS - but since it is now in vanilla (or was) it makes Optifine less effective in cases where it is the main factor affecting performance).
Another screenshot taken underground:
Also, did I say that Optifine gives faster chunk loading? This is what happens when I crank the chunk updates to the max, after doing /tp ~500 ~ ~ and back (same position as the first screenshots):
What about 1.8? Not so fast there (though they nerfed chunk loading in the latest prereleases, removing a lot of the lag it caused, but even then it rarely went above 30):
(taken while flying)
Also, this is the bug I mentioned; basically the lag spike of death, although not related to the usual culprits, because of how the eye sees things, that looks more like 5 FPS, with the spikes always occurring every 10th frame, regardless of any settings, internal or external:
Note also that Java 8, including Mojang's "special" version, causes lag on 1.6.4, so I use Java 7 for it.
It is also worth noting that my computer doesn't even meet the minimum system requirements for 1.8 - but easily meets the recommended for 1.6 (see here for the system requirements as of those versions, taken from the Internet Archive; the current requirements are the same as when they last updated, also the last update since the 1.6 update), aside from RAM but as mentioned that has never been an issue; a much bigger problem, aside from the issue mentioned above, is extreme server-side resource requirements in 1.8, lagging even when standing still unless I lower the render distance and even then jungles still cause lag on 4 chunks - note also that a render distance of even 8 still loads less chunks than 1.6.4 due to the render distance affecting server-side chunk loading; and of course it kills off mob spawning). Chunk loading did cause a huge amount of lag but the 1.8.2 prereleases fixed it, although large areas of water still makes my FPS drop to single digits.
Not that I mind anyway, since 1.7 and later haven't added anything that really interests me (even from 1.6 I only use the block of coal, just an excuse to mine all the coal I find, previously only what I needed, more than doubling the ores I can mine in given period of time), many of which I could mod into the game if I wanted to, and they added/changed features that are highly disruptive to my playstyle, such as the underground changes in 1.7, never mind they didn't bother to add in customization to 1.8, only "yes/no" options for cave and structures (did you know that Superflat has let you change the generation of most structures for years now? Yes!), plus I'd also want to replace the world generator (continents, oceans, biome placement) with the 1.6.4 one to keep world generation consistent with existing chunks (I modded in my own biomes and other changes in a manner that minimizes chunk walls, with any that do occur being easy to smooth over in-game, with the help of MCEdit in a few cases - yes, that's how annoying they are).
with a laptop that has a i7 8 core processor nvidia geforce gtx 870m graphics card and 8 gigs of ram I used to get 200+ on max settings, with shaders I get 50+, and now for some reason I get only about 55 cause my computer got messed up somehow... I hope to seeon get the new razer blade that just came out, it has the same specs as my current laptop but it has a nvidia geforce gtx 980m graphics card which is a beast plus it is the thinnest gaming laptop to date so yeah, best computer ever in my opinion

comment that one computer is a waste of money yet you have three... I see no logic in that
And just cause you have that opinion about alienware computers does not mean that everyone does, I may like razer better but I still think that alienware is quite an amazing computer as well
