I really don't know at this point. Ever since 1.8 came out the game has been completely not enjoyable for me or any of my friends. Im 14 and so are most of my friends but, I don't think that's the problem because a bunch of Youtubers are in there 20's, 30's, and 40's. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's that I have played since it came out? I need some more opinions on the 1.8 update cause it has to be that. So my question is, did 1.8 ruin Minecraft?

I don't believe so. For me, I had a boost in FPS, I felt like more awesome blocks were added, and gameplay is pretty great with a more variety. That's just a 13 year olds opinion :-)
It different for most people. Some say it really improved Minecraft, and some say it completely destroyed it. I can't really say if it ruined it for me, as i do not really play 1.8 that much (1.7.10 all the way ). It's really your opinion.
I'm pretty happy with 1.8, it didn't take anything away from the game, just added a bunch of cool stuff, like killer bunnies, guardians, new types of stone to build with, etc. What did kind of hurt the game though was the whole Bukkit fiasco, and us not being able to have modded servers for 1.8. I started my own little private Vanilla server though, and learned to do a whole lot of new things with Command Blocks that before I would have relied on Mods to do. So 1.8 actually helped me get better at Minecraft, and learn to appreciate Vanilla more.
I personally loved the new block additions but like many players my FPS went down a lot. Some of my worlds are virtually unplayable because of it. Whats the point in all these new features if the game is so choppy that I can't play it?
Personally, I really like 1.8, though I don't play it much- I just prefer to play with certain mods. Once they've been updated, I'll almost certainly switch over, and whenever I do play vanilla, it's always 1.8. I like a lot of the new things in it- the new stone types and the varied wooden doors, especially. I don't much care for varied fence though- I preferred being able to make generic fence from multiple sources of wood. Can't have everything, I guess. That might not be a bad suggestion: Add the old fence recipe back in that makes 2 "wood fence" using just sticks.

Yeah, the new door types are awesome. I especially love the Spruce wood doors, they have a nice medieval look to them. I don't really see the issue with the fences though, trees grow pretty fast, so I've never had trouble getting a lot of a certain type of wood. Just keep planting and harvesting trees like you would your crops, even if you don't plan on building anything specific. It comes in handy to farm wood, at least if you play like I do and hardly ever leave the farm.
I don't think there's ever been a game that a person can just play and enjoy continuously. If you've been playing since the beginning, that's a really long stretch. I would say it's time to put Minecraft down for a few years. There are too many other games to play and too many other things to do with your free time. Once you start feeling that drag, its time to go.

I can't agree more with this, it's a huge problem with people and this game, They don't seem to think they can stop playing. It's a game, you'll get bored of it eventually. There's loads of good game out or coming soon, don't waste time on MInecraft if it ain't fun anymore, it's not a magical game where boredom doesn't exist.

I wouldn't say 1.8 'ruined' minecraft, but I will admit it has changed a lot over the years. I still enjoy it and am often on in my spare time... but when the game we know was minecraft first launched, I think we can all agree we never saw some of the features added in this update ever being a part of the game. Most people'd come across a village and be dumb struck, ready to raid it. But now? There are monuments in the ocean with a new mob known as 'guardian'. When I first showed this update to my brother (who doesn't play PC version), he said this update seemed more like a mod.
It does have some great things added, though. The bunnies are just amazing! Also have you seen /gamemode 3? Great for some mini games created within the game!
Command Block server mods are awesome. Just look at what Hermitcraft was able to do with them.
(Any player can sleep at night, not everyone on the server, disabling enderman griefing in a way, clearing weather...)
And I love 1.8, aside from the server lag it introduced, which will hopfully be fixed in 1.8.1. Don't like the new anvil mechanics as much either, but again, hopefully those get addressed soon too.
This makes no sense. There were no major changes in 1.8 to the mechanics that make up Minecraft. A game cannot be ruined simply because it added a few blocks and mobs. That's just nonsensical. I feel that people are all just saying that 1.8 ruined Minecraft because apparently it's the new fad to be nostalgic.

People keep saying this at every update. Every update as been the one ruining Minecraft and the previous one was better. When 1.9 will release suddenly 1.8 will be an amazing update. Though I will say that there was one bigish change, the Lapis requirement for enchanting, which does have an effect on most custom maps (mainly survival or CTM). But nothing crazy to yell that the game is done and the world will end.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Back whenever 1.6 was released there were posts like this claiming that it ruined Minecraft and 1.5 was amazing. Same with 1.7. Hell, people were even doing this exact same thing back in beta 1.8.
People like to complain. I guess it's just a normal human function, but I think that it has gotten much more severe in the past few years.

Ok so let's see in the good point rather, 1.8 has enhanced map making by a HUGE amount, @e, execute, selectors and armor stands helsp a bunch, new survival mechanic balance things out, new doors looked awesome.
The thing is, Minecraft is how you played it, so if you don't really like it, 1.8 doesn't ruin Minecraft like you say, maybe just for you, but hey, have you tried 1.8 maps?
Or just play older versions or mod packs, or servers, good?
Also no more X-rays and lots of bugs fixed

Microsoft now has control of MC. While I think that will be a Good Thing in the long run(!), it's funny to see a post about 1.8 'ruining' MC.
Microsoft has owned Minecraft for a while now, and the world hasn't ended. I love the Minecraft community because it is an active and very intrigued community. But they sure do like to complain and worry too much.
No problem here. You've just gotten bored with it, 'cause you've played it to death. Take a tiny break, play nyancat, TF2, GTA, or whatever for... say five to six weeks, then get back to Minecraft. And if it STILL isn't fun by then, play 1.4 (a.k.a. the last non-render change update).
