Dead bushes are literally the most useless thing in minecraft. They have zero crafting uses, are easily destroyed, and the only thing you can do with them is put them in a pot.

Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
Giants may also be the most useless thing in minecraft, for those who don't know they are giant zombies that mojang has left coded in so you can access them with certain plugins, but can never appear in vanilla minecraft.

It is entirely possible to spawn Giant zombies in Vanilla minecraft. Enable cheats ie: creative mode and enter /summon Giant.
Going to say this was last possible in 1.7.9 as I haven't checked 1.8
Bats are also nice with essentials, because you can spawn other mobs on top of them to create flying pigs or flying cows. Its pretty neat for players to see.
We have horses.
Why do we need 'carrots on sticks' or 'ridable pigs' anymore? I can't determine if they're more useless or silly.
Maybe because not everything has to be taken seriously or have an absolute utilitarian use in the game. There is nothing forcing you to make carrots on a stick when you can do something else with the ingredients, along with the saddle.
There have been a number of times when bats alone have helped me find a neighboring cave or tunnel. With creepers being quieter than ninjas, and zombies not hovering near you unless they see you anymore, I can depend on the squeak of a bat now and then to discover more caves to explore.
I still won't cry when one gets in the way of my mining or combat and dies, however. They are rodents, after all, and just as numerous.
My answer to this is rather mixed. People may say that bats are useless, because they have no use in a survival situation, they cannot provide any materials and are just taking up space that COULD be taken up by the 16-bit computer you wish you could build, right? Well, although they cannot provide any materials, they are an aesthetic feature to make minecraft more realistic. I am going to say my opinion on a few things people said.

Fireworks, sure they can be a neat little detail/what ever, but they could easily be removed, and I for sure easily forgets that they are even a feature.
Hm. I disagree. And you also said yourself that they aren't useless, because if they are a "neat little detail" they are NOT completely useless.

I think the useless feature in minecraft could be podzol as it has no uses except being dirt.
Bats aren't useless as they can give location of cave because of their sound, I had morph mod active, I killed a bat and gained flying ability in survival. Flying Is usefull
Alright, now, once again, although podzol turns into dirt, it can be obtained with a silk touch shovel, AND furthermore, i like the touch it gives to the survival atmosphere. So, although it is not used MUCH, it is NOT useless because it is used as an aesthetic detail. I actually like what you said in the second part, and it is what i will get into in the next section. Now, the original post did NOT specify whether the item was useless in vanilla OR modded. So what you said here is that bats AREN'T useless, because with MODS they can get a use. I also know of this one mod that makes bats drop leather.

Well, horses may be more practical, but that doesn't mean ridable pigs are useless. Every played in the DerpWorld ModPack? (well it doesn't exist so problably not), anyway, pigs are cute and derpy and why WOULDN'T you want to ride them? Once again, they are not useless!
One more thing, this thread didn't specify the useless for modded or vanilla, and in my opinion, NONE of the things in minecraft are useless. Even in vanilla, but with mods, it gets pumped up more. Someone said that rain is useless, well not ONLY does it provide atmosphere, but in the popular modpack "SkyFactory" you collect water in buckets, and, by the way, you cannot live without that.
Conclusion: Nothing in minecraft is completely useless even if it is an aesthetic only, because that makes it not-useless. Thank you.
There's nothing that's truly useless... everything in Minecraft has some use.
I do tend to find things that have only decorative use as less useful than items with practical uses. With that, I certainly have to agree that dead bushes are probably the least useful thing in Minecraft. They create a nice aesthetic effect, but that's it; you can't build with it, you can't use it in crafting, it certainly can't be used as an item...
There are other things that could have been candidates (particularly sponges) (PARTICULARLY sponges) but then I remembered that some of those things have gained more practical uses (looking at you, sponges) (also lapis lazuli, to a lesser extent).

In Minecraft, you stick your head in the dirt to find problems.

Sometimes when I build bats just spawn in some dark corner, and when I try to kill them, they just fly away.
