I know people will still hate and show no respect for the decision but please stick together, there is still a hope and future for Mojang and Minecraft.
Hate is just as likely to unite communities as tear them apart. It is a chaotic and volatile substance.
The best we can do is wait until the next round of events, to see what Microsoft's plans are. We would be lucky if the only thing they did was stamp their logo on everything.
Hate is good. It tempers your heart like fire tempers the steel. It makes you going even if everything seems bleak and hopeless. It makes you remember, it makes you immune to flattery, distractions and petty things. It brings focus, determination and endurance. It's a pure, genuine, unpretentious, honest and powerful emotion. To quote one song:
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Well, over there on Bukkit I've been observing from a large view and this is exactly what has happened there. One person took it down single-handedly and I understand that everyone hates him but if people focus on that too much, it starts to become the main thing and all that people think about. I don't want that to happen here. Bukkit used to be my passion until one person decided he wanted to act in a bad way.

If you say so. There are too many examples of this not being the case. I understand that people will have different views but hate is not one I support.

I don't now about anyone else here, but I don't hate Mojang for the decision that was made. What I am more concerned with is how Microsoft is going to handle this game.
IMO, we can yell all day long about how Mojang "sold out" but in the end what's done is done.

Hate is a product of fear... for those of us in-the-know, there's really no reason to fear this (yet).
Phil has said recently (earlier this year I think, might have been E3 - can't remember) that he hopes to win-back PC gaming. This is likely partly because the new generation of consoles have had less than underwhelming sales and PC gaming has been making a comeback this year; or it's just Microsoft Studios returning to their roots for some other reason. Whatever the case, this could be Microsoft Studios' attempt at redemption, and also to keep themselves afloat. Phil says in the video (about Minecraft joining Microsoft) that they plan to keep it on all the platforms (why would they remove it from other platforms? That means less money lol), and also recognizes that the community content is what has helped make Minecraft what it is today. True, that doesn't specifically mean modding, but it doesnt exclude it does it?
In regards to modding, I think it's much more likely that Microsoft work on their own modding API in a serious manner, rather than chasing all us down and trying to kill us off. It's a win-win scenario for everyone if they did this. They might go around buying up or simply taking peoples' ideas for mods and making them official lol but I dont see them killing off the scene that has been an integral part in Minecrafts' success. It's free crowd-sourcing for publicity and popularity.
Also, regarding an official mod API possibility; it could be possible to allow Xbox Minecraft to also support more mods and DLC, with the option of people to actually charge for their addons. Wouldn't that be nice, Minecraft modders could legitimately make money/business from doing what they love! But this is probably wishful thinking
I think the fear is extremely real. Microsoft is quite money hungry and, in my opinion, does not make customer satisfaction it's number one priority. What this means for Minecraft as a community is that it will never be the same again.

I think that none of what has happened is hate but this can all turn into hate. Not that this post can do much, but the intention was to talk about this before hate arose.

are we still going to be able to use our current accounts or are we going to have to register new accounts, and you know how minecraft wont auto update if your using forge and if you want it to update you have to update forge, well if you were to continue using that forge then minecraft would never update to Microsoft's version but of course you would have to update eventually unless you wanted to be in 1.7.10 when say there is 1.9.10 out

The fear is definitely real but that doesn't automatically make it legitimate. Fear is not a good basis for decision making. We need more information.
Hey you! You want the 1.9 update? Pay 15 dollars! It's a dlc!
Pretty much how it's going to be going... the community might not be dead, but if Microsoft messes up... it will slowly start to degenerate... and what are we going to do if all the minecraft youtubers can't upload anymore! ;_;
For server owners the current situation is a nightmare! We lost bukkit already because of a dmca and now we dont even know how the future of plugin based servers will be. almostevery server needs plugins.

On one level I almost feel a little excited, on another a lot of dread. Minecraft is hands-down my favorite game ever and the only one that I intend to play off and on for perpetuity. Even Civilization, my first love, hasn't gotten the same replay value or affection, minecraft may be the first game ever that is infinitely replayable because the placement of every block in the world is unique. You only limit is your imagination. And playing with friends to build epic machines or structures is just an amazing feeling!
When I discovered how well mojang designed redstone (components not circuits!) that was when it sealed the deal. This is truly a masterpiece, mojang may have been slow with updates and bugs but one thing you could always count on was they would foster the community and give us new tools periodically to build even cooler things out of. I stil remember the thrill when hoppers/droppers came out. Over the space of 2 weeks I got on my prototypes single player game and redesigned every garden until I had invented a lot of automatic varieties.
This is the sort of thing I want to continue. I doubt these nice updates will be free, but I hope they continue, are relevant and in the spirit of minecraft, and are reasonably priced. I, for one, could see minecraft doing a deal where they realize slow but very thorough and nice updates on the cheap for maybe 2.50 per update. This would make them their billions back in no time, and I already know I'd be willing to pay for every one. If I see micro-purchases appear in-game I'm gonna burn things though...I doubt MS is that stupid though. I also expect MS to design and host their own santioned servers, worlds, projects, and forums/communities. If they play this right, a company like microsoft could really do a lot and give this community even nicer tools to do what we've always done. I, for one, hope they focus less on squeezing money out of the existing game and more on encouraging the nascent merchandizing, movie deals, and other things that have emerged.
A lot of existing services and companies make free money off mojang because mojang didn't care to sue them. Also, about 1/2 of players have pirated minecraft. legal copies are at 54 million, the 3rd biggest game ever according to an article I read, but I'd guess there's probably over 100 million players that pirated and play cracked servers or LAN, especially in places like china or overseas. It was just so easy to do with mojang being indie, not caring about money, and especially during beta when all those free executables were drifting around and offline mode. You didn't even need to know how to change any files to do it (I didn't but noticed this). If all microsoft does is crack down on pirating and make it harder to do it and still get the new content, they might get a flood of new users who have always played the game but never ponied up the money. We won't see this at all owning legal copies, but it'll make minecraft hundreds of millions. They probably will also insist on royalties now from companies that use minecraft to make money, and there are a lot. For instance, loads of servers and youtubers that make money off it for free. I'm guessing microsoft will find a way to protect their copyright better and get some of that. There is a LOT of money in minecraft. However, most of the money is above and below legal players. I'm guessing we won't feel changes for a while until Minecraft 2 with 64-bit graphics comes out or something. haha! There's a lot of improvement possible in minecraft as evidenced by the thousands of mods ppl play. I'm surprised Mojang didn't design 32 and 64-bit graphics textures and just add a slider to set the resolution you wanted. They kept saying they were protecting their players with older computers, but come on! Just add a slider to let the players choose. How hard right? And half the people I know use modded texture packs because of this. Probably one of microsoft's first moves will be to design their own, very nice, texture pack for a small fee.

I think the fear is extremely real. Microsoft is quite money hungry and, in my opinion, does not make customer satisfaction it's number one priority. What this means for Minecraft as a community is that it will never be the same again.
They're actually not a money hungry company, relatively speaking. They're a massive corporation, but unlike e.g. Apple they don't have 400% markups on their products, don't charge for updates to their OS, and don't bring lawsuits against basically everyone (Apple are pretty bad lol I could go on), and unlike e.g. EA they don't pump-out measly DLC for all their games every second month.
The only real things Microsoft can be criticized for without dispute are their aggressive business tactics (they've faced anti-monopoly lawsuits in the past often), everything else is just the usual backlash and abuse that a corporate body of such a size gets. It's not really a valid criticism to just distrust Microsoft on the same things that every other company of that scale is also criticised of - unless you're arguing that Mojang should have never sold, in which case you're being unfair to Notch IMO (really, I feel sorry for the guy - he copped so much more than he deserved, people abusing him like a faceless corporation).
I can't speak for Microsoft Studios customer satisfaction as I've never dealt with them, but I've only ever had excellent service and support from Microsoft Client division (the part that deals with Windows and software) here in Australia. But again, like every company, they're bound to have the bad eggs every now and then (staff that don't care or are having a bad day, etc). It happens.
You're of course free to have your opinions, but you don't really back it up with anything - just ambiguous slander that could be said about basically any corporation in existence. It's impossible for an organization of such size to keep a 100% of their customers happy, so I am assuming you've just had a bad experience with them which is fair enough. But this doesn't give any validity to why people should hold-on to their fear and act out on it, literally nothing has happened yet and at this stage, what happens in the future of Minecraft is anyone's guess.
That is all I have to say...
