Let's be honest, we are complaining so much about the fact that mircosoft owns minecraft because we really CARE about minecraft and we really want it to go into the correct direction whereby it is about the fun and not the money. I really doubt minecraft will stay for long as mircosoft has given me an impression that they are purchasing this game for the sake of its wealth being generated from the purchases of this game and to make use of it to their monetary advantage. I sincerely hope that will not ruin minecraft any further by releasing:
Server Payment
Premium Membership (even though purchasing MC, makes you a premium user)
Premium Items/Blocks
Premium Maps
Premium Mods
Premium Skins
Premium Accessories (such as capes)
And more monetary stuff. This year is probably one of the worst mc events whereby there are EULA, DMCA issues and now this... I did previously predicted that notch might give up on mc due to all these nasty incidents. Notch may not be a CEO or whatsoever but he does lead the developers in a good way that is desirable to the community. He is also a form of assurance that mc will be kept a great game as it is today, despite having a lot of improving areas. Notch is doing all these for the gaming community and not for money which is definitely good but all these are gone. We are fearful, disappointed, depressed that this day will eventually come.
On the other hand, I am glad for Notch to leave the game even though I really do not like it at all. I do not wish for him to see his games being created as a form of disturbance or annoyance towards him, I want him to enjoy his own games and programs. Basically, I felt that mc will be soon a horrible game that everyone hates or are forced into their 'spells' whereby the users are so addicted that they are willingly to pay a fortune for the game. Since mircosoft claims that they are not good in their products such as the windows phone, what makes them think that they know how to carry on with M.I.N.E.C.R.A.F.T
I think its pure arrogance to claim a loss of respect toward Notch by anyone TBH, and after reading every post for 10 pages there sure is no lack of arrogance from a good majority of those who have posted up to this point so far either.
Those who cannot pull their undies out of their crack long enough to see that their very attitudes are more than likely the major fault behind the last few months of events need a quick reality check. No one has to put up with being abused just because you bought their software. NO ONE!
You paid for a game. You got a game. You paid under $30.00 for that game while getting to enjoy 1+ years of unrestricted playtime and updates while not putting any further money into the game. Yet there is no lack of "Gimme, Gimme" from the majority.
Look we can all sit here and worry, bicker, blame, be abusive to Notch, but none of that fixes the simple fact that at some point peoples perception of somehow having the right to be nasty, cruel, and vicious to others without potential consequences is bound to blow up in their own faces.
It does not surprise me at all that Notch just wanted to wash his hands of his game and company, and with having stock (majority at that) it isn't just as easy as handing over the company to someone else already on the team when it comes to having to deal with any countries tax authority.
Sometimes (as this community has shown) the real enemy isn't the developer/potential buyer, but the actual community itself.
Yet nothing lasts forever, and all good things must come to and end...I just am not so sure that end has come yet.
DLC (or Expansions if it makes you feel better) are far from the worst things that could happen, and to be honest if done right I don't have an issue with putting some extra money into what was a "CHEAP" game that has given me 3 years at least of constant game time for less than $30.00. Sure it may mean that not all five accounts in my household would be upgraded at the same time, but again I'm use to that with other games I play with my kids.

I'd agree with you if not for all the constant "large companies buying/bullying into indi game is bad and I don't want to be a part of it" rhetoric that Notch and other Mojang employees spewed everywhere. Not just on twitter but at cons and other internet sites and in interviews. So yes in the end Notch selling to Microsoft is worthy of losing respect and yes he did basically sell out his "morals" unless he never really cared in the first place and that indi talk was just to appease his fans. Either way both are a sad coming from someone who many put on a pedestal.
So as an avid mc user i must say im humbled by whats going on as of late with the purchase of mc going to a mega corp like ms one can only wonder what will happen to our beloved minecraft? honestly im gonna wait it out and to be honest with you if anything happens were anything past 1.8 is not worth my attention then ill stick to 1.8 and hope the fellas over at forge ftb, atlauncher, and tekkit will keep going forward to 1.8 it may or may not stop at 1.8 and to be honest if it does it would be nice to have our mods be finally updated and compatible to the new engine and so forth with stability in mind just because minecraft was purchased by ms doesn't mean we loose what we love there is im sure and always will be servers out there that will stick to 1.8 and older
i dunno i hope ive made sence im not sure what i was trying to say just that i know modded mc will be around for years to come we all thought red power died but project red popped up in its place an who new eloram just happend to pop back up to make rp3 idk i think theres a bigger picture to look at guys just sayin
notch built mc out of his bedroom probly eating oddles and noodle for supper everyday hes now able to make a better life for himself that im sure 80 to 90 percent of us will never see he sold his company to be free to do his own thing wouldnt you if you could i know i would well that price happend to be 2.5 billion and dont think for a second someone out there dosent have the source code for mc 1.8 lol u kidden me this community will grow expand and be somthing microsoft can never put a price on nor notch be able to sell
Let's be honestly honest guys. I'm pretty sure Notch didn't sell Minecraft to Microsoft because he couldn't handle the pressure. I have a funny feeling that it may have had more to do with getting 2.5 billion dollars.
And as many other people have already noted, I'm pretty sure Microsoft is going to do their damnedest to get that investment back by siphoning it out of the pockets of already existing Minecraft owners, EA style.
No one sees what this is all really about do they? It's not about notch selling out, it's not about Minecraft, none of that. Microsoft just purchased the most successful cross platform game in history.. CROSS PLATFORM. That means, in order for Mojang to make it cross platform, they had to code each version, specifically for that platform. Which means, they had to learn how it runs. Minecraft is now owned by MS. MS just paid 2.5 billion to legally access trade secrets of their competitors platforms. All because the Windows Phone is failing. They bought mincraft to build a better phone os. To outdo competing consoles. To have their fingers in every piece of tech and tech company they possibly can, that would not sell their secrets or hand over their ideas. Good job guys, good job. You just became accessories to Legally Acceptable Corporate Espionage.
It's highly likely that Microsoft will keep Minecraft on all its current platforms; they describe themselves as a 'devices and services company', and in the past year or so they've released a bunch of apps on Android, iOS and OSX. So their claim of keeping Minecraft on all platforms looks likely to hold up.
Besides even if they don't, everyone who's downloaded it has a copy on their machine... and its easy to copy/paste <_<.
We've got to make some exceptions though; are you willing to use a Microsoft account? Will you accept ads in the launcher, or in game? Something will change, and if we can make some allowances, and be flexible it'll make the process of change a lot easier.
Also many Youtubers their job is uploading videos, many of which is Minecraft - there could be serious implications for Microsoft if they tamper with their job, their livlihoods, so I'm confident that if things go downhill we'll get the big guns rolling out.

Both major game companies have bought smaller companies that have put games on both platforms. It's all shared knowledge anyway they just don't want us to think it is.
What's with the melodrama around here over a business transaction? The same people who were throwing tantrums over the so-called "new" EULA are the ones now crying because they think Notch "abandoned" them personally and ruined their dreams/sold their firstborn/et cetera. Is it nice to have confirmation that the ungrateful behavior of this community helped make this decision a reality? As if any of you would have turned down 2 billion dollars to be rid of the often-hateful complaining of millions who were never satisified with their free, 100% optional updates. Ideals are nice to have, but we're all mortal and have our own price.
Also, I thought this was Minecraft Forums, not Psychic Forums (home of predicting the future based on little to no evidence of anything!) Me, I was gifted the game in 1.4 beta, have played it ever since and will continue to hang around and see what happens. I'm honestly curious how it's going to work out. My friend paid 20 Euro for something that's given me countless hours of fun for 3+ years and even brought me closer to someone I care about, which is priceless to me. I don't feel cheated in any way.
Notch clearly wasn't cut out for this job and realized it some time ago. I'd probably feel the same in that place so I can't blame him, even if he has more money than I'll ever see in ten lifetimes.
Somebody who hasn't lost their mind yet, thank god. I've been pretty doubtful that this would turn out well, but in fact after reading the official announcement from Microsoft (and watching the video) I have a feeling this'll all turn out for the better.
I don't blame Notch for anything, nor do I think I would have made a different decision in his shoes.
I just find it incredibly sad that this had to happen. Some sick twist of fate, in my opinion. I just hope Microsoft keeps the original Mojang employees and lets them mostly go about their thing.
Minecraft has brought me countless hours of entertainment as well, by both playing it, watching others play it online, and with the music made from its inspiration.
All I can hope for is that very little changes. That these videos will continue to be made, and that mods are left alone.
I have all the respect in the world for Notch. I'm just incredibly distraught and I'm thinking irrationally. This is taking an honest to god huge emotional toll on me.
I'm just gonna quote what Phil wrote in the announcement on the Microsoft blog.
"Our investments in cloud, Xbox Live and mobile technology will enable players to benefit from richer and faster worlds, more powerful development tools, and more opportunities to connect with the Minecraft community. "
If Notch thinks the community hated him before, he's got no idea what's coming.
Selling out to Microsoft is going to result in the absolute destruction and crass commercial perversion of an entire global generation's favorite playtoy.
It's going to be really interesting to see the longterm ramifications of this, both positive and negative. I have a feeling he's going to live to deeply regret this short-sighted decision to give up any control over his only meaningful contribution to the world.
I still respect notch for all he has done, guess he had enough of it tho, it's completely understandable.
I am sad though, that it has come down to this, never have guessed this would have happened to my favorite PC game of all times. I just hope mojang will continue support for Minecraft 1.8 multiplayer, so the modding community can still continue to mod it to their heart's content, if microsoft does anything stupid that is. It'd be a shame to see minecraft dies completely in the hands of microsoft, I only wish we could retain a part of what we currently have in the future.
That being said, I think minecraft would be better off being abandoned (as in no more future official updates) than having some other big guys buy it out.
Well...worst case scenario, I think I will just abandon ship and jump over to minetest (Which is basically open source minecraft) if microsoft screws up.

and then.. SimCity 5... made by EA...without MAXIS. will wright?
yeaaaaaa...
Not saying SimCity 5 is a horrible game. but, its missing much from its former glory. So it will now go with MC. Its not good.. but its not bad.
Basically, the MC community will no longer be 1. there will be the PRE-Microsoft community. and the POST-Microsoft Community.
Already see it coming :/
Maps made Exclusive to Microsoft version 2.0
Maps made Exclusie to MOJANG version 1.8
yup.. it will happen. :/ What that famous saying..? "all good things...."
