You mentioned Roblox on a Minecraft forum. Out of touch, much? I've been posting matters, here you were saying something about Roblox. The fault is on you, buddy. Not me. Also, you spell like a little kid and here I am spelling and talking like an adult. Grow up.
Notch and the other Mojang founders are leaving the company and moving on. Would this include Jeb? Because he's been the one doing everything for MC since Notch handed over the reigns in 2011.....
So far they are promising to maintain support for all versions of the game on all platforms....so there is still a glimmer of hope. Also a lot of the other Mojang devs will still be on the game most likely, so not much may actually change.
Time will tell, I will withhold judgement on the game itself until after something happens. I will, however, pass judgement on Marcus: he sold out. The community got angry at him for the first time when he changed the EULA, and for the first time they were against him. He couldn't handle it, so he Phil Fished...only his IP was worth a ton more than Fez.
Do you really think Microsoft will continue the game's support on their competition's platforms? Its highly unlikely.
So if Microsoft bought Mojang, then why would they continue to sell Minecraft PS3 and PS4 Edition and help out one of their competitors?? What would be the point in them selling Minecraft on one of their competitors systems?
Well it is silly he said it wasn't for the money, or he would t have sold it for billions. But it was quite revealing how much Notch seems to have loathed minecraft, guess he's not a cool guy?
well if Microsoft doesn't wreck this thing, here to hoping updates with "real content" will happen, instead of constantly hearing how the small team is constantly screwing around instead of actually getting work done. Crack that whip bill gates, crack it
I just hope that they still keep up with the path that Minecraft was going down! Plus think of it. Free updates. Let's see what Microsoft can bring us as well.. Let's see their ideas.. All the new things they can bring to us. Yes it's sad Mojang is no longer ,but no by Microsoft. We all just got to keep our heads up and resume to normal play. Things will get to normal again guys. Yes Noth pretty much said that it was because people were about the EULA on his leaving letter. On the bright side. As long as Minecraft is still around ,and very so little changes only happen ,and just the main things that we've known for however long we've known Minecraft sticks around then we should be good. Everything's going to be ok guys.

It sounds more like he had a nervous breakdown over comments from 13 year olds on twitter. It's sad really. Reminds me of lottery winners who end up unhappy and/or broke, because they just couldn't figure out how to enjoy their good fortunes.
I'm fairly certain that the intent here is not to keep on releasing free updates forever, but to come out with a Minecraft 2 (which won't have any such promises attached).
It will be something of interest if they do charge for updates on the Minecraft, as there will be customers like myself who have purchased with the belief that all future update/expansions/etc. will be free.
I think a lot of people would be bummed out if you had to buy updates. I don't think it would be a smart move for them. I believe they bought it for their own plat forms, but also to "learn" what's made it so successful, and I believe one aspect of that are the updates: which never had to happen but did, and are free
If MS bought Minecraft purely as a better investment of $2.5bn than what the $2.5bn was doing before, MS doesn't have to do anything with Mojang if it continues to turn the same profit it has already.
Its possible the only change we might see them force is getting a Windows Phone version made (likely by a third party) and more merchandising depending on if Notch sold those rights as well. Though its just as likely MS will do far more and ruin it, but as of what they said, its not instant worst as it could have been.

If it was EA, all bets would have been off.
EA is one of the greediest companies out there. Microsoft is not as bad but their still pretty bad. In short the April Fools joke turned out to hold a grain of truth.
Guys, is 2.5 Billion Dollars, lets put it in perspective, is a 25 with 8 zeros on the back in pure US dollar cash, . You think a long lasting world tier company like Microsoft is gonna up a project with this much investment?
Yes. There is one reason and one reason only, why MS bought Mojang: to boost their mobile platforms. They don't really give a rat's ass about the game, or its community as far as anything else goes. Given their measly marketshare, 2.5B is not really an exorbitant sum of money (they paid almost 5x as much for Skype and still have enormous cash reserves FFS) for them to try and significanly boost their position. They did not buy it because Minecraft is a great game, they bought it because there are tens of millions of us and they would like for us to be using their phones and tablets to play it on. And if that doesn't work out (and it won't) they will, at the very least try to recoup the investment thru the game itself. This is where the up comes in because eventually, the accountants and shareholders will take the matters over.
As for my own views on the matter, I'm sad. I bought into the culture of Minecraft as much as the game itself. I was introduced to it during early Alpha stages and decided to be part of this curious new community. It was as much the concept of the game itself as was apparent Notch's attitude that made me chip in my $20 back then, and get few other copies for some family members along the way. I'm glad that millions of like-minded people made this project not only possible, but deservedly made the virtuous developer quite rich, maybe even beyond what he could have imagined.
What I'm not glad about, is that Notch really come out simply as Mr. Markus Persson, a hypocritical sack of poo like the rest of us. I can't say that in the end, I'm surprised - hell it's 2.5 billion dollars, for that kind of money I'd sell my soul too, let's be honest. But I wasn't the one pledging distaste for the corporate agenda all this time; I wasn't the one was asking people to invest into a new kind of game, a game based on principles and gamers not accountants; I was the one (of millions more) who bought into his crap. If Minecraft and its success has really become too much for him (I do believe that part) then why not open-source it, divvy up the cash you and the company have made so far and move on. That was kinda the original plan, wasn't it. Maybe it was no longer as simple as that, what do I know, it's easy to moan and feel butthurt without clear understanding of the full picture. But he gets a nice chunk of change to "preserve his sanity", we get Microsoft logo. So, congratulations on the sale, enjoy your [even bigger now] lump of well deserved cash. Hopefully, it will free you completely to do what you love, and nothing but that and you can actually afford to have principles.
I just read the Mojang's note of the sale and frankly that entire "reassuring" drivel should be reduced to a single Q&A: "What will happen to Minecraft? Hopefully not much if anything but who knows. We will do whatever is best for the company because it is now required of us. You've all served your purpose in making us incredibly successful. We thank you for it but now it's time to be practical kids, and real world is about money. Take it or leave it, we don't really care and most of us will be gone soon enough anyway."
As for the game itself, I'll enjoy it for quite some time still I suspect. I'm not gonna quit just because Mojang and its founder turned out to be yet another bunch corporate pricks after all. But no, MS will not get a single dime off me. Not in protest, rather I just don't care anymore. Speculation of what will MS do or not do to the game isn't relevant to me. I'll play what I have, and when it dies, it dies.
Do you really think Microsoft will continue the game's support on their competition's platforms? Its highly unlikely.
They outright said they will.
...so yeah there's that. But it is also because they have no choice but to continue it. The deal was already done, when they bought Mojang they also bought all their contracts. 4J is licensed to develop and update it for all platforms that it is already out on. Thus, PS4/Vita editions will still receive updates. This is similar to...say...Marvel granting Sony licensing rights to X-Men and Spider Man. Then they started Marvel Studios, however due to them licensing these IPs out they could not make movies based on their own characters (Even the appearance of Quick Silver and Scarlet Witch in Captain America 2 and Avengers 2 has a lot of loopholes. They cannot call them Mutants or even hint at their parentage). And now that Disney owns Marvel, they are still bound by that same contract: They cannot make (live-action) X-Men or Spider Man movies since Sony still has the license. 4J has the licensing to develop MineCraft for the 360, XBox one, PS3, PS4, and Vita. All of those platforms will remain supported.
HOWEVER this means that no new competitor platforms will likely have Minecraft. Though Microsoft did say they will likely leave that decision up to the platforms creators, meaning they are still open to putting it out there on the other platforms.
And do you know why they would actually want to put them on other platforms?
Because the more platforms it is on, the more money they will make. And they know that...and they smart for understanding that. They do not plan for MineCraft to be an Xbox exclusive. They bought MineCraft to push on their Windows phones, it really had nothing to do with the console versions.
We have to be calm here... I already freaked out I am a Mac user and a Playstation fan no hate about that please this is about microsoft. I am most definitely not a fan of their work by any means. I am new to the world of minecraft and I absolutly adore it I have made several friends addicted already. There are many things that can go wrong but if we speak our opinions we can keep it under control.

It is something worth talking about, I have a suspicion that it might already be void (?) though haven't seen anywhere confirm or reaffirm it.
It will be something of interest if they do charge for updates on the Minecraft, as there will be customers like myself who have purchased with the belief that all future update/expansions/etc. will be free.
Season Pass anyone? Hahaha
