What are we going to do to Microsoft? One of the biggest companies ever. We could do one thing about the fact they bought Minecraft!
I'm not trying to exterminate hope.. It's just taking on Microsoft? I mean really they are the, or one, of the biggest companies ever, but it could have been EA.
Please, please, please educate yourself. I mean it. I am not insulting you or anything, but you are so misinformed about our economic system and laws that you might be holding yourself back personally and professional.
Here is what you sounded like: The sky is blue because it holds the ocean in a force field above us and occasionally it weakens and that is why we get rain.
*** PLEASE, i beg the community and the moderators, a lot of your posters are young, and you have at least a little opportunity, and I think responsibility to clearly state when a fact is 100% wrong. A lot of opinions on this site are subjective, and that is fine, but when something is unquestionably wrong, it should be pointed out. ***
That you so much for helping him.
That doesn't equate to sales from a stockholder's perspective, but I understand where you are coming from.
This is pretty hilarious. You are calling down moderation on your own head, because you don't understand what the MS press release means. You are not posting from a position of authority, so please stop insulting everyone and looking dumb by doing so. The following link outlines why your entire premise is incorrect. Microsoft is not going to make $2.5B from Minecraft in a year, and they have not said that.
Even absent this proof, your logic that they could make $2.5B in a year fails the sniff test, and anyone who actually runs a company or knows what they are taking about wouldn't assume this was possible with the MS/Mojang situation. The fact that they have said "on a GAAP basis" means that their investment in Mojang will make more money back than $2.5B will make in interest just sitting in the bank.
My biggest concern about this whole thing is whether or not 4J Studios, the people responsible for MC on consoles, will still continue to support the PS platforms, not just with updates, but DLC as well.
A new skin pack, the Star Wars Skin Pack was released today on Xbox platforms, with no indication that it will come to PS platforms.

I had to laugh at your response, but at least you are learning something. Good for you. How would I ever explain GAAP to this community? People who think Jeb can tell Microsoft to buzz off, Mojang owns Microsoft, and so many other silly opinions that there is simply not enough time in a year to list them???
Corporate accounting from a stockholder's perspective is too advanced, and even you wouldn't understand it from reading one article.
I apologize for not answering early. I am barely on this site anymore. I realize that this board isn't the place to discuss Minecraft's demise. The forum is too young, and nobody wants to see Minecraft go away. Anything I say would only result in anger, and really bizarre reasons why Microsoft wouldn't ruin Minecraft.
I will check in from time to time to see how the community isolates itself from bad news from Microsoft. I find the ability to explain away any facts that might threaten Minecraft to be fascinating.
To be completely honest, I'm not one for paying 30 dollars for an expansion pack to a game that is supposed to be enjoyable. Microsoft is like the big wig companies you see in movies that is most likely going to suck all the fun and wonder out of the game by making you pay monthly. I feel pretty ticked off about this, because I know Microsoft is going to do this. I have seen Microsoft take a good game and suck it dry. I sure am going to miss playing minecraft, so it's too bad Microsoft plans on putting shackles on a game that had a perfect balance to it already.

Now look, buddy. I'm an Engineer. That means I solve problems. Not problems like 'what is beauty', because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. I solve practical problems. Like, how am I going to stop some big, mean mother-hubbard from tearing me a structurally superfluous new behind? The answer: Use a gun. And if that don't work: Use more gun. Like this heavy-caliber, tripod-mounted little ol' number designed by me. Built by me. And you'd best hope, not pointed at you.
I am only really upset about one thing. It's kind of frustrating when you think a game you loved was about to just be ripped apart by something bigger and more difficult to handle. I'm worried microsoft will make minecraft one of the types of games like WoW that you pay for monthly, and seeing how my brother is still on world of warcrack, I don't have the money to be wasting on buying it month after month. It's been done before by microsoft with other games, and it might happen again. The worst part is we can't do anything but watch as they make us pay more and more.

Sounds like speculation to me.
Would you spend $10,000 on a Rolex watch, then take it apart to see how it worked?
MS has 2.5 billion reasons not to screw this up. Give them a little credit, ok?
We'll tell you if need to panic. Until then, don't worry about it.

How could they charge a subscription? You don't need anything from them to run the game even if they tried such a thing (it's relatively easy to make a batch file that will run minecraft without the official launcher, just google it). The only way I could see for them to do a subscription would be for persistant servers that they run, which you could easily choose not to play on (though no doubt they'd be very professionally run with excellent up time and reliability -probably on Azure, not to mention fairly administrated). Minecraft servers now can charge a sub as long as it's the same for everyone. You have the choice to play on them or not.
Going forward, they might (again, I stress might) charge for further updates to the game. 1.9 or whatever may be a payed DLC. So don't buy it. Continue playing 1.8.1, which you already have, and which they can't stop you from playing.
Everyone worried that MS might somehow make Minecraft a pay to play game aren't taking into consideration one very important point: You already own Minecraft up to version 1.8.1, and there is no way they can stop you from playing it whenever you choose. In other words, they have no way to interrupt your access to the game if you don't pay, so there's no way they can make you pay to play. If you're worried about microtransactions, don't. Again, they couldn't use them on anything currently in the game. They could add new things that they charged for, but you are free to not buy them, and still play the game as you do now.
To be completely honest, I think peoples fears about Microsoft making Minecraft pay to play, although well thought, are not likely to come to fruition (Come to pass). Microsoft isn't in the business of breaking peoples heart and spirit. Just like anyone else, they probably enjoy Minecraft just as much as anyone else as it is. I can bet that any idea's about changing Minecraft in any way will get shot down by both Employee's and higher ranking Staff. I say this because, just like you and me, as I said before, love the game just as much, making it Pay 2 Play would cause a LOT of controversy, and many people would most likely boycott Microsoft products because of this. I would be disappointed NOT to see some drama over such a great game. I'm a Legend of Zelda fan, and just like Minecraft, The Legend of Zelda has a daily increasing fan base. If either game went out or changed drastically in a negative way, half the Game Savvy population would go into an uproar. So, because Microsoft is NOT filled with greed heads and morons, they are most likely not going to change the game in a Negative way. The only thing I can remotely think of is removing Mod Support, which I'm not sure whether or not has happened yet. This is because I am a Mod User, and my client has crashing when I try to start using ANY version of Forge Mod Client. If any of you could direct me to a forum page discussing Mod Support for Minecraft, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Well, Microsoft has owned Minecraft for a while, and I don't see any issues. I think most of us overreacted. You need to realize that Minecraft's development team is now working for Microsoft, and is still in charge of the game. So Jeb won't do anything that will ruin the game. The only thing I don't like in the new update is all the new rocks that have been added. Microsoft's involvement is limited to earning profits.

Its not that easy to ruin a game in 2 months!
And anyway they wont ruin the game they spent 2.5b on the game they will probs add some stuff like monthly payments or minigames on the start menu ._..
I doubt they will do monthly payments. Minecraft has made a lot of money just from one-time payments. Maybe they will boost the one-time payment to 40 dollars (the standard cost of a video game, at least that's how much most Mario games cost at gamestop).
Microsoft isn't in the business of breaking peoples heart and spirit.
