>"If you cant pay 30 bucks for a game, then you shouldn't be allowed to play it."
Why not? If you are dirt poor, and are going to be too poor to spend extra money on a pc game, then pirating it until you have money to spend is really not that bad. Now if you come across money and wish to support the dev by buying the game when you have cash, then theres nothing bad about it. One more thing to keep in mind, some areas of this world dont have certain acess to parts of the web to legitly buy the game, some due to blocks on certain sites, or a lack of ways to pay online for items. Pirating is the only way those areas are ever going to experience those games, and it does help as word of mouth and posts online spread it like advertising for others to buy the game.
One could even argue a kid in China who's net is blocked from notch's site can pirate minecraft, and make a youtube video of them playing the game, then others could see this game and buy it themselves from watching that video. Which in turns helps sales of the game. There is good things in pirating games.
>"A simple way to figure out whether you like it or not:Watch a few videos?"
That really doesnt help a lot of people due to certain games, some games you need to try out and text for yourself to see if you like it, things like clunky controls and delays in key pressing can not be seen or experienced in a video. I say you need to play a game for a short while before seeing if its for you or not.
>"You don't need to crack to 'test' if you like it or not."
I again disagree, some games do not have demos for you to try out yourself, so playing a pirated copy is a legit way to see if you would work on your pc, how the fps is, to see if there are any game breaking bugs etc. Yes there are demos but some demos either dont have the full game so your pc can handle the demo but when the real game comes along your pc cant handle it, theres no way in testing that. Some demos like the MC one are timed, which is a not really a good way to see if you can like the game or not, due to the time limit you never get too far in the mid game to even figure out if theres more than just mining blocks. I think a temp map with a un-timed demo would be better for this, that way players can experience a bit of everything of the game in the demo, but then again pirating the game allows you all the time you need to see if the game is for you.
>Or what, are you gonna do that with all games?
I am a pirate, I pirate games to test if I like the game, to test if the game works, or has any bugs in it, etc. So I suggest anyone who is unsure if they should spend money on a game before buying it blindly that they should pirate it first, and if they like the game then pay for a legit copy of the game. Pirating isnt that bad for these reasons.
So many flaws with this argument. Where shall we start, hmm?
"Why not? If you are dirt poor, and are going to be too poor to spend extra money on a pc game, then pirating it until you have money to spend is really not that bad."
Yeah, it kinda is. Saying that is like saying - "If you're too poor to afford a car, than why not take it out for a 'test drive' until you have the money to pay for it? 'Test driving' it until you can work up the money for it really isn't that bad."
"That really doesnt help a lot of people due to certain games, some games you need to try out and text for yourself to see if you like it, things like clunky controls and delays in key pressing can not be seen or experienced in a video."
That, my friend, is why there is a such thing as REVIEWS. Ever heard of IGN? Metacritic? Gamespot? No? Well go watch their reviews. It's their job to tell you all of the negative sides of the game, whether it be controls, graphics, gameplay, story, or overall presentation.
"I again disagree, some games do not have demos for you to try out yourself, so playing a pirated copy is a legit way to see if you would work on your pc, how the fps is, to see if there are any game breaking bugs etc."
There are FREE benchmarking tools out there for download, and this site, as well as this site both have a "can I run it" system that will tell you if you can run it at an acceptable framerate. Some of these sites even go as in depth as telling you what specific framerate you will achieve. There are NON ILLEGAL alternatives to piracy.
"I am a pirate, I pirate games to test if I like the game, to test if the game works, or has any bugs in it, etc. So I suggest anyone who is unsure if they should spend money on a game before buying it blindly that they should pirate it first"
Piracy should NEVER be recommended. Piracy is a crime, and like any other crime, has consequences. What you're pretty much doing here is telling people, some probably even children, to steal to see how a game "works". That is unacceptable and wrong in every way possible.
I've pirated games before. And when I did, it never gave me the feeling that paying for games did. It made me feel like I didn't truly earn the game. Piracy isn't something that a true gamer does.

Cracked users are thieves, plain and simple. They should be treated as such.
Exactly, they are just people who would rather hack than take the time to earn the 26 measly dollars themselves. Lazy thieves, that's all what they are.
Not all people really have the money, while you may think 20 odd dollars is nothing, people come from many different family backgrounds, I don't use the cracked version myself, I can understand as to why you would secure a cracked version. Who I can't spare excuse for is those who use the cracked version and could easily get the paid version but still choose not to buy it. Also the fact that Mojang needs our money to run and now with Minecraft Realms and cross platform releases, the game will get bigger.
If you have the money buy it .
If you don't, it's aright to use the cracked version, but you should repay your debt to Mojang by becoming a good member of the Minecraft Society.

There seems to be a fair argument on each side.
Against the Cracked Users: Cracking the game is piracy and it's illegal. Morally bad.
With the Cracked Users: If you are too poor to get it you crack it. It's testing the game.
Well, the thing is, you pay for the game. You pay to get the game, you pay to play the game, you pay to OWN the game. This money goes to the developers, and they do what they want with it, whether it be work on the game more (like in this case) or just use it for personal needs.
When you pirate a game, no matter how poor you are, no matter how much you need to test it, it's wrong. If you're poor, then that sucks. If your parents are over-defensive, then that sucks. Using your friend's account is always a great alternative. No friends with Minecraft? Tough luck.
There are alternatives to these problems. Here is a way to test FPS. Here is a way to see what Minecraft is like (YouTube is great also).
Pirating is not and never will be the solution. You can pirate it if you want, I can't control you, but it's not right.
Honestly, its pirating, just calling it what it is. It certainly isn't nice to people at Mojang who give MC Constant free updates. That may go away with profit lost from cracked users...
Let the haterade be drunk on this comment. (;

Dr. Who, Divergent, Hunger Games, and coffee obsessed. And guess what? Peek in the spoiler.
I think there is no need to check out how much FPS you get from the game because of trusted resources like game-debate. They have some kind of requirements checker and gives you almost accurate results, I would suggest you check this out: http://www.game-debate.com/games/
Cracked users are just small 8-13 year olds who don't have money and played a pirated copy of minecraft, do you think he/she knows about the rules or that mojang cares about punishing those children? The parents are the ones who have to care for their children, and which parents do that these days (no offence)?

Honestly it depends. If someone is unable to purchase Minecraft for a legit reason, like not having a credit card and there being no cards available in the stores around them, then yes. It isn't hurting anyone if they just play SP to have some fun.
But if some lazy just doesn't feel like getting up and spending money, even though they CAN, then no, they shouldn't be aloud to crack.
It's only the sheeple who wave their fists and yell "Pirating is bad!" because that's what the media has programed them with.
The reality is there isn't even a clear cut definition of pirating or stealing. I buy a copy of Star Wars and I can rent it out all I like and keep all the profits. That's legal, and the sheeple don't complain. But if I buy a Minecraft account and rent it out and keep the profits, everyone decrees it as obviously stealing because that's what they've been programmed with. But they're both the same thing. True, one violates a EULA, but that's not a matter of morality, it's a matter of contract.
It's fine to have an opinion of whether cracked games are good or bad. But when you adamantly declare that other people's views are immoral, you're just letting the world know that you didn't bother to think for yourself.

I admit, I started out cracked, tried my own server, then before 1.7 fully got engaged I bought the game for me and my gf. then I got my friends to buy the game.
I will occasionally let some friends play at my place on a cracked to show them, that's how I got 2 other friends into it that bought the game.
Good God man, is this supposed to be funny? You took my quote so far out of context even I can't recognize it. You don't need to be so patronizing when you're not even on the same topic.
That kind of came out wrong now that I look at it again. But your example is still illegal.
I have no idea why you can go to google and search "minecraft cracked free download" and come up with a website so easily and no one has really done anything about it. If it was my game I would sue every last one of those pirates no matter how long it took.

If someone owns a device that can run Minecraft, they probably have 20$

Getting a cracked game is stealing, and it is absolutely illegal, poor or not. If someone came up to a store and stole a disc it wouldn't be "ok because they can't afford it" Downloading a game for free that you are supposed to pay for is wrong, period

Exactly. You could even make a more broad example, and say that's like stealing a bike is alright, if you're poor.

Legally it's never okay to crack Minecraft. But in my opinion it's alright if you crack it then buy it after or if you don't like it get rid of it. I used this same logic with multiple Ubisoft games. But I had no reason to crack Minecraft as I got my first taste of the game from playing single-player on my firend's account then bought it after realising how awesome it was.
I used to play cracked before I could afford to buy Minecraft, I played with several other people at the time. When I was finally able to get Minecraft, i bought an account for them, I have bought 5 accounts, I feel this makes up for me and my friend's use of Cracked
Wake-up people! Don't you see that without the cracked Minecraft these people most likely wouldn't have bought the game? It is big profit! Honestly, I am one of these people as well. If I never had played cracked I wouldn't have bought it in the first place and in a similar manner have I persuaded 5 other friends to buy Minecraft. Holly-jolly what you could do with only that 120€? A lot. So, yes Notch' statement is very logical.
I am against piracy when the ''pirate'' will never buy the game and thus never show royalty to the developers. Besides that I am fine with it.
Let's take the classic disk form a store example!
When you steal Minecraft from a disk out of a store, you really steal it. The owner loses an actual cd, it physically loses something that (most of the times) can not be retrieved.
When you virtually ''steal'' Minecraft, you simply download a COPY of the original game. Virtual things are not limited by materialistic laws of nature. Virtual things are infinite, you can copy a photo 100 times without ever losing it.
When you steal something, the owner actually loses the item. Because Mojang does not lose Minecraft when it is pirated I personally do not consider it as theft in the first place.
Here comes the argument against me which makes bloody sense.
However you do not physically steal Minecraft, you do steal their ''potential profit''. I can find me this. This may or may not be true because we are speaking of POTENTIAL profit. It is true that it generates less sales and takes away the opportunity of gaining money from said game but on the other hand, it also creates more customers. It gives poor/young/critical gamers the opportunity to buy the game later on.
With this mindset I have done this with all games I own and bought them later on.
Haters gonna hate.
So many flaws with this argument. Where shall we start, hmm?
