This is my first thread. So I was wondering, would you rather have mods or vanilla?
I'm talking about big mods that change most of the gameplay like jurrassiCraft, Extreme realism and ETC. Also, try to post pros and cons. Somebody may have already posted this.
There is indeed already a thread like this, although it was more about the pros and cons of mods in general, not the "can no longer call this Minecraft" type of mods you are referring to; which in my case means I'd rather play vanilla than deal with all sorts of new stuff, machines, impossibly difficult mobs, etc (my own mods are basically just enhancements to vanilla, adding no new types of items/weapons/etc, only modifying or based on existing ones, same for new biomes, nothing too far out for vanilla; with that said some people even think that some new features recently added are too much for vanilla).

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
